I'll be honest, I completely missed your Shikoku Shinkansen video. I'll give it a watch when I wake up again. (it's late here in California) The more I think the Trans-Kyushu shinkansen is a very Interesting concept with the Shikoku Shinkansen from Osaka. I really appreciate your effort to not only cover the 1973 master plan, but actually give each and every line the detail I was looking for! I am eager to watch more videos from you.
I think Kokura - Oita is feasible. Perhaps even Kagoshima-Chuo - Miyazaki (noting that it would either need its own rollingstock or through-trains would have to reverse direction at Kagoshima-Chuo), but I think the sparsely populated and mountainous terrain between Oita and Miyazaki (especially north of Nobeoka) is a challenge. I have very fond memories of the Nobeoka Station staff going above and beyond for me when I was heading up to Takachiho and some unexpected challenges popped up... so I'm a little biased but would love to see better transport in that region, too (but it wouldn't necessarily have to be a Shinkansen).
Oita and Miyazaki could really benefit from a Shinkansen. I stayed in Oita for 10 days and traveled extensively between Kokura and Miyazaki on various day trips. The time savings of having a Shinkansen there would be a major improvement. The other key is that Oita is already a major travel destination. Giving it easier access to areas along the cost will ensurage more day trips from the Onsen capital and benefit everyone in the region.
Thank-you very much for making this video series. It was very interesting. I am hoping that some of these routes will be approved once the under-construction Shinkansen lines are closer to being finished. I can understand that it's financially difficult for many routes to be built at once.
you all probably dont care but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Wilder Cain I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
The potential time savings for the East Route is very dramatic...and the population density isn't bad too. By the way, I remember you mentioned the commuter passes in the Kyushu Shinkansen. How much does it cost vs. a limited express train and how many buy these passes?
Hakata - Shin Tosu (Price / trip time) Limited express commuter pass JPY 19,220 / 26 minutes Shinkansen commuter pass JPY 44,910 / 13 minutes I don't know how many passes JR Kyushu sells. However, the ratio of commuter passes to the total revenue of the Shinkansen is higher than that of other Shinkansen.
Maybe only between Kokurs and Oita/Beppu. Both are major tourist destinations and many business operate there, so there is big demand. Not so much so between Oita and Miyazaki. If Kagoshima prefecture wants to link Kagoshima and Miyazaki by Shinkansen, there is Low demand between Oita and Miyazaki and Miyazaki Pref. incurs the greatest construction costs, then the most logical solution is to extend the current line to Miyazaki and construct the short line between Kokura and Oita. Since Oita is very enthusiastic about the Shinkansen, Oita.should be willing to support the third sector railway being set up to tie over JR’s conventional lines if the Shinkansen opens, unlike Saga Pref. with the Nagasaki Shinkansen....
Great video! Shinkansen route from Kokura to Oita seems more real and profitable. However, population density is not so big. Also, travel distance is only 100 km. So, I hope that route wouldn't be build, in order to save limited express. In this way Nagasaki Shinkansen is more real and profitable route than Kokura-Oita route.
I'm going to be so sad when we run out of prospective Shinkansen routes to talk about Maybe we can start analyzing potential Shinkansen routes in the USA
There's always the HS2 route in Britain to talk about because they will have finished the entire shinkansen network by the time this even gets started!
Love your videos, especially the maps with city population. Keep up the good work.

Best video you have made so far, Takeshi-san! Looking forward to adding the trains that would be used to my existing Kyushu train collection!
