      When my Nephew was young I use to take him and 3 of his little friend fishing all the time 2 of them didn't have fathers or no one to show them how to fish. That was 30 years ago the one kid is Married with kids and take his family fishing all the time, even thanked me for taking him when he was older, the other kid was from a really broken home now he is a Principal for a big HighSchool and still talks about how he used to love to go fishing and camping.
      You can change a kids life just by taking them fishing.

    This was the first knot I learned as a kid many decades ago...not sure why such a simple and reliable knot got over 400 dislikes because it's reliable and easy. Thanks for sharing it 👍

    • @sbyrum
      @sbyrum Год назад +6

      I gave it a dislike because it will slip and you will loose lures. I tested this knot at home and it fails about 50% of the time. The fail rate increases with thinner line. The knot I use is exactly like this knot but with one more step. On the last step I then thread the end of the like through the Loop that you just made when you threaded the end through the loop/gap by the lure's eye. My knot has been trusty for 40+ years. The fact that the knot taught here can and WILL slip is why the downvotes are happening.

    • @KurtOnoIR
      @KurtOnoIR Год назад

      Probably because when some of us try it, its very easy to pull apart for some reason. I must be missing something here. I'll watch it a couple more times but then I'm back to the quadruple beginning of tie my shoe knot. Never let me down, I just wanted to look more professional lol.

    • @KurtOnoIR

      i was taught it was called a barrel knot but it seems
      thats nor correct. its always worked for me
      as well.
      have to be careful with ultralight line when tightening the knot or it gets swirly

    • @sonofnothing
      @sonofnothing 4 месяца назад

      @@JM1540Xfirst you have to take thr tag end back through the loop you've made! Then I moisten the line, then I hold the tag end with my teeth as I pull the lure and the line gently until knot is snug.
      I mainly use 6-8lb test mono and it never fails me. But, without sending the tag back through the loop, it will pull right out.
      Also it's a good idea to have decent tension on the main line at all times. Can't let the knot bunch up like this guy does.

    That knot is what we call a clinch knot. To even make it a better knot, do what we call an advance clinch knot. After you put your line through the hole where the eye of the hook is, continue to put your line through the large loop that you created after putting your line in the first hole. Wet it with your mouth so it slips better when you tighten the line.

      In the UK we call this a half blood knot, and if we put the line back through the large loop, that is called a tucked half blood knot. Both knots are very strong and reliable.
      Some comments below say this knot is unreliable.
      That means they haven't tied it properly...always do it carefully and remember to wet the knot before pulling it tight!

    Option - I like to run the line through the hook eye twice before twisting it. Seems to be a much stronger setup.

    If this knot become untied then you either did it wrong! Or didn’t pull the knot hard enough! I grew up with this knot used 15ib main line to whatever, and leader 20-25ib to hook!
