Great tutorial. Just wanted to add that using dynamic zoom with adjustment clips is a great way to make a slideshow of still photos, and so much easier than using key frames on individual clips.
Well Done Lady!! Keep them coming. What I like about this video, the lady its making or this channel, they go down to the point and sometimes go down to explaining thing with out taking to much of your time.
Great video!!👌🏽 cuestion! I would like to apply the Dynamic zoom on anamorphic footage but when I try it, everything comes zoom even the 2 black bars. I need help. What I’m doing wrong? 😢
Hello Juan! Hmm.. that's odd. We've not h ad any problems with dynamic zoom on anamorphic footage. Can you provide any more info about's happening for you?
Ok wow. Moving from final cut to premiere years ago, i did miss ken burns effect but quickly got used to keyframes. Now moving from premiere to resolve i still used keyframes but never noticed that dynamic zoom would've sped up my workflow a lot like fcp!!
Love the content. i'm fairly new to video.. but this is very helpful and clear. Appreciate if you can make a clear davinci resolve tutorial for beginners
I see you're very helpfully answering comments. Hoping you can help. Just updated to 18.6. I don't have Dynamic Zoom as an option in my drop-down under the playback window. I have Source, Offline, Audio Track, Multicam, and Annotations. No Dynamic zoom. Is there something that needs to be done in order to make that available?
Hello! It sounds like you are looking at the source viewer, rather than the timeline viewer. You'll find the dynamic zoom controls in the viewer on the right hand side. Hope that helps.
Very informative! Would this be what I need to use if I was using a 5k video clip on a 4k timeline? (Goal is to slightly zoom in on the 5k footage so I still maintain the full 4k frame)
loving watching your content plase upload as frequently as possible. if i have to give any suggestions please make :- edit page masterclass , how to make a videeo from stock footages , and more on the minor but important things of resolve . your explanations are great. love from INDIA❣
To be fair, Premiere has some great features that Resolve lacks. And Resolve has some great features that Premiere lacks. Depending on your workflow, the balance will tip in a particular direction. That said Resolve is incredible. We're currently working on a full length course to help people transition from Premiere to Resolve. Hoping to release by the end of the year. You might like it! Thanks for watching.
Thanks.. I've been using Premiere since about version 6.5 in 2002 or so.. not that keen to leave because I know it so well . and love a lot of it. But this particular zoom feature is one I use a lot.. there were a few of these kind of things that it feels like in Premiere you have to manually massage...so it's certainly food for thought! Thanks!
Out of all the so called video experts on RUclips, this video has someone that can actually teach. Lotta these guys are just swinging their ***** and they dont know how to teach. In such a short video I can tell the instructor can teach. Lotta people out there can make videos but are terrible at teaching
The issue I am having is that I set my start and end (Red and Green Boxes) and while it does go in that direction, it doesn't frame exactly what is in the rectangle. This makes it confusing to use.
If dynamic zoom could let you control the speed, it would truly be dynamico!!! Those quick zooms are not good for documentaries. I have to keyframe those shots. Is there a better way with dynamic zoom to slow it down to be more slow and cinematic?
Heya. Yes we’d love to see the ability to control its speed added. The best thing you can do for the time being is change the easing. Otherwise manually key framing is your best bet.
Try clicking on the corner control to highlight the windows that you want to manipulate. Then it's easier to move it around because it's already selected.
I have the free version of davinci resovle and can't open the menu with the customized dynamic zoom options (i can only set it from "inspector"), beacuse I can't really see the icon anywhere. is it due to the fact that i have the free version or is something wrong with my program? help :')
Dynamic zoom is available on the free version of Resolve. Are you talking about the dynamic zoom viewer controls? They can be accessed with the dropdown menu beneath and to the left of the timeline viewer. Hope that helps.
The dynamic zoom controls inherit the size of your source media. When working in mis-matched resolutions, like vertical, the controls might look funny, but they still work fine. Was that your problem? Thanks so much for watching.
I just wish we would have the dynamic zoom parameters in the inspector to be manually and precisely adjusted, like zoom x, y, position x, y… so not just approximation by dragging the lines…
Yeah, we've got ideas for improvements we'd like to see made to dynamic zoom too. However, it should be noted the tool is meant to be simple and easy to use. If you'd like to do more complex or precise animations, that's what the transform controls are for, and then you'll get the control you need.
The speed of the zoom is dependant on the length of the shot you apply it to. If you have a short clip and you want a 'slower zoom' then make the zoom less extreme by changing the start or end framing. Thanks for watching.
keep in mind that dynamic zoom doesnt work correctly if you have a 4k clip and editing and the timeline resolution is set to half or quarter, it must be set to full
Yeah, that’s a good tip. Proxy resolution should be set to full. To be precise, I think dynamic zoom still works, but I think the viewer controls are messed up. Hopefully this will be fixed.
It's just not working for me, no mater where i pace the red and green box. During playback, it's taking my whole clip and sliding, plus shrinking it inside the viewer.(Instead of zooming panning in on subject. I've watched your video like 5 times, taking it step by step, but no luck. If i just use dynamic zoom it the Effects tab, it will ease in or out. But as soon as I try to get more control of the actions in the Viewer Drop Down; dynamic zoom with the red and green boxes shrinks my footage clear out of the frame. Is it just me or anyone else having this issue? (Davinci Resolve 18.6)
I noticed this problem while using an adjustment clip. It was set for landscape orientation, but when I applied it to a vertical portrait image, it cropped the image, resulting in quite odd behavior. An adjustment clip cannot be made for vertical images, so I'm using it only on landscape images, and the settings for vertical ones must be adjusted manually each time. It's pretty annoying. Also ease in and out is applied only when first set linear, then, ease, then linear, then ease again. Resolve Studio is simply buggy, hence free.
@@team2filmsI've resolved the issue. It's not an error, but rather a conflict with the Scaling feature. Whenever I insert pictures, I opt to set the scaling to 'fill' rather than sticking with the default value. However, with 'fill' enabled, dynamic zooming only functions correctly with landscape-oriented pictures; portrait-oriented pictures get cropped. Therefore, the workaround is to refrain from using the 'fill' setting, which ensures everything functions as intended. By the way, your channel is fantastic.
This is a really quick way for zooms. Thank you for the tutorial!
You're welcome!
Didn’t realize dynamic zoom could be adjusted. This is awesome!
Glad this was helpful.
Same. I have been doing it with keyframes because I didn't know that adjustment overlay existed.
lmao same. i was using davinci for 5 years now and this popped into my feed. damn
@@LoadoutsAirsoft I use it all the time now but it's annoying that the feature cannot be copied onto other clips. Unless I'm missing something.

It's kind of important to note that if you have your Playback>Timeline Resolution set to less than 100%, this won't work properly.
We think the effect still works, there seems to be an issue with the viewer overlay. Will investigate. Thanks for mentioning.

How to speed up the zoom effect
The dynamic zoom effect always lasts the duration of the clip, so therefore it's not designed to have its speed changed.
I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CHOOSE WHEN IT STARTS AND STOPS ZOOMING WHY CANT I DO THAT????
Dynamic zoom is designed to be simple. If you want to create more complex movement then keyframe the properties in the inspector. Hope that helps.
