Congratulations Jim. I was there too. Amazing experience. I did get a PB but I am sure it could have been better. My quads just froze on me around 29km. Had to walk-jog the rest. Like you,I'm aiming for my first sub-3 but ended with 3:19hrs. Maybe I'm too ambitious. Will lower the time to sub 3:10 before attempting sub-3 again. Tq for the video. It's a lot of sweet memories for me.
Thank you! It was a great experience and was fun. I’ve noticed for some reason in big marathons my times tend to be slower. It could be due to the field size but sometimes it’s just not our day. Wishing you the best on your journey!
Great video! I'm running it later this month. ... I'm concerned about the change in 'time zones'... and 'eating too much before race day' (this is my first real destination marathon, there is LOTS to think about and prep for). ... Again, great tips. Thank you!!
Good luck! If you can get there a few days early to give your body time to adjust that’ll be good. You should be fine as the excitement will make your body prepare for this race even though it’s far way. Just make sure you set your alarm. There are many Italian restaurants around Berlin so if you want to pasta load that would be safe bet. Just be aware that there could be long wait for tables and food the night before if your close to downtown.
Much appreciated. ... Long run tomorrow, then it's 'taper-time' for the last 2 weeks... and taking care of details/packing, etc.. ... And, yes, getting there early to adjust to the time-change is a great and smart idea.
Thank you for the great video. What was the toilet situation at the Berlin marathon like? On the event map it just shows toilets at the start and the finish.
There were portapotty in the starting corrals on the side of the streets in the beginning too. Along the route there were big blue euro ports pottys as well. I didn’t stop in them but I did see a bunch of them.
Berlin marathon specific merch was pretty much adidas which had the largest section at the end of the expo. Other brands were in the expo but I did not see any marathon merchandise from them. If you pre ordered the merchandise during registration which I would recommend since some items were limited, be prepared for a huge line getting the items.
The water stations were plenty with water and it looked like blue Gatorade. They did have gels and food later on too. Only thing is the cups are short and hard plastic so it’s almost impossible to fold and sip while running which makes it difficult since i almost chocked couple times. You can bring your own water as well.
Excellent video, thanks for all the tips!
Good luck with the race!

Expo question: Did they have outside vendors selling Berlin marathon merch (non adidas) at the expo or was all the merch the Adidas items
