This video was uploaded in 4K and with chapter markers. Does that stuff matter to you? Curious to get your feedback. Thanks for watching!
I rarely ever watch in 4K, but chapter markers are a wonderful edition, they help me out a ton. Thank you for all of your hard work!
Yes, much better this way. Nice video, btw!
Chapter markers are amazing! And 4K is cool, but definitely not needed. Have a wonderful day!
Absolutely! The chapter selection is especially handy when you're talking about multiple games...
I would say sometimes, I do like the description in your Videos a lot. it's good if you come back to a Video and search for a specific topic. but I can scroll to the minute which you have in the text.
I give it a GOOD 👍🤘🤘🤘
FYI: Some of these games are on sale right now for PlayStations Indie Sale!
Definitely gonna check them out on the shop since my disc tray broke..
@Travis Field 20 bucks right now
Yep, just got Nex Machina for $5!
And Onrush was on PS Plus a year or two ago so you might have it in your PS4 library.
Yup! Also from previous videos:
Caladrius Blaze is 2.99 now (normally 19.99)
Anima: Gate of Memories is 6.99 (normally 19.99)
And like someone mentioned below, Nex Machina is 4.99 (19.99) and Moons of Madness is 11.99 (29.99) right now
Late shift was INCREDIBLE. This actually hooked me to more interactive movies but this was done really well
I literally keep a special stash of beer in my fridge. Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. Exclusively for whenever MJR puts out a new Hidden Gems video. No joke.
So time to crack em open and let the gems roll... 🤘 🍺 😈
Nice list! For other hidden gems, especially on the PS4/5 i would say 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. A Sci-Fi game that is 50% adventure game or visual novel, 30% RTS battles with a pause function and 20% archive lore dive. Yes the archive is big factor in this game. If you like a convoluted sci-fi story with huge revelations and a great ending where you will understand everything in the end, i recommend 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
I especially recommend to play this with friends together to dissect the story as it is happening and compare your insane theories with each other. It is the type of game that you can only play ONCE as the main appeal is the story. The battles are also fun with upgrades and an endless mode you can unlock, but the main course is the story.
Thanks Metal J. Been following you for a long time. Always love the deep cuts. Reggie was actually the one who got me into the Tales series. Keep up the great content.
" HouseMarque" is pronounced "house mark".
Maybe he is saying it like what Biz Markie calls his crib?
House Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
Not a Marquee in site!
@@darthv72 the place where magic with Just a Friends doesn't happen
Who gives a shit
It is sad that Nex machina got only limited run physical release, i would love to have it physically.
I got Alienation from a friend. It's something I never would have bought based purely on the screenshots I had seen beforehand, but I've actually been having a lot of fun with it.
Also Onrush is incredibly fun. It's surprising that it didn't sell that well. It's easily my favorite racing game on the PS4. It's complete mayhem. Love it. One of the most pleasant surprises of the entire generation to me.
OnRush is Motorstorm for PS4. Of course it would be a great game. Of course it would be an underrated game. That's what Motorstorm games do!
Thank you for throwing a quick recap of your past videos at the beginning. Not enough creators throw little touches like that out of fear of losing video views
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@MetalJesusRocks When a new console just came out (PS5/XBOX Series), how long do u wait until you make a hidden gems video on it?
Quality was great 👌 Definitely trying out moons of madness & late shift. Thanks!
Oh, man, I love Wales, the company behind Late Shift. You should check out The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker by them if you haven't. It's another FMV game with a Lovecraft feel. And I really need to check out Kentucky Route Zero.
OnRush is such a fun and awesome game, definitely a hidden gem
Well done, man. Good choices. I’m always trying to find new deep game cuts and usually when I watch these videos, I’m already aware of the games mentioned but these were clearly well thought out. it’s hard to show me something new. But you did. I learned a few things here - the Housemarque games for one - that I’m interested in. Thanks, brother. Keep it up. As someone new to PlayStation ecosystem, I’m looking for the good but “lesser known” James. Think FIST, Neo Saves the World, Rain World, The Pathless, on and on. Thanks Again. Dig the content
One of my favorites is a game called The Adventures Of Pip. Probably my favorite PS4 hidden gem. Happy Gaming my dude 👏
This made my Friday morning, thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Alienation (like Dead Nation) is only fun in multiplayer. Whereas Nex Machina (like Resogun) is quite fun playing alone.
As someone stuck in the action/adventure/shooter games I appreciate videos like this because it shows games I would normally skip over. I need to expand my gaming horizons
Love these videos and the format. Thanks
Awesome, thank you!
Love ALL your Playstation vids :)
Some hidden gems:
Earth Defense Force 4.1 (amazing in splitscreen)
Bulletstorm
Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair
Those are more well known i think?
@@andreas4971 Edf is definitely less out there.
Thanks for these recommendations MJ, I had Alienation in my PS4 library without ever playing it so going back for it now! Going to download Moons of Madness too, looks awesome!
Great video. I just downloaded Alienation from PS Now. Also bought Nex Machina from the PS Store for $5 and a physical copy of On Rush from Ebay for $12. Looking forward to checking these out in the near future.
Finally hidden gems return! Love it.
Alienation was quite heavy on difficult progression vs e-shop purchases. Good game up to that paywall.
Havent played in about 4 years. Back then there wasnt anything you had to pay for
Awesome video! I can tell you really enjoy Housemarque, have you played Returnal? OMG Housemarque just keeps building and building on what they do well. You can really see the DNA of Nex Machina especially in Returnal, with the incredible voxel and particle techniques they use in the graphics to the dash feature being essentially necessary for survival.
If you haven't played Returnal, definitely give it a whirl!
I have Returnal for PS5, but waiting for the checkpoint save patch. Not interested in losing hours of my time if I get a system update or patch.
Always finding something new and amazing! Thanks for your channel!
Glad you enjoy it!
Definitely picking up Alienation. Looks like a lot of fun for couch co op. Nice video MJR. Nice recommendations as usual.
Love the chapter selection, thank you for doing that!
No problem 😊
Excellent picks for this video. Thanks!
Always love the hidden gems vids! No matter what console 😊
Same 😁
These was terrible 😕
@@JOHNH-hc3dc Do you mean this was terrible or these were terrible?
These was terrible is just wrong use of words but I assume that you're from US since only a fraction of people can write their own language there.
@@ezioauditoredafirenze5453 like i said these if u understand English
@@JOHNH-hc3dc "These was terrible" is just not proper English.
You should use plural-word were not was, because there are more than one game at the video.
If you are talking about the video as a single form, then you should use sentence "this was terrible".
Do you understand?
If you don't understand, try asking from a school teacher or search from the net how to write that sentence correctly in this context.
Another awesome video! Thank you. One question I am really interested in is: " What do you intend to do with your collection?". As we all know, the games are just games. Most of them we will never play and we cannot take them with us when we depart. Not sure if this has been asked before. But I would really like to know what the MJ-Crew thinks about this and in their answers.
awesome vid man
I played Late Shift on the Apple TV when I was back in Seattle. Great game! Had no idea it was ported to so many platforms!
Nice to see Late Shift getting some love. I got it on sale on PSN when I had a few bucks left over and was very pleasantly surprised.
Another great video metal Jesus. I have just gotten back into twin stick shooters being a fan of smash tv thank you
I love these hidden gem videos! I discovered so many great titles due to this series. Keep them coming!
More to come!
I loved playing Alienation, really good. Glad this was included
Those are really great looking games.. Thank you for this video!
In early for this one, another GREAT VIDEO!!
Yay! Thank you!
Alienation and Nex Machina are both awesome twin stick shooters, love 'em. Nex Machina's presentation reminds me of Resogun, and they happen to be made by the same company.
Really interesting list.
Onroad looks really cool!
And as for the chaptermarks, I think it's still a good thing for the people who wants to access to a special topic. :)
Housemarque can do no wrong, Matterfall is my fav hidden gem from their back catalogue. Also I was hooked on Onrush for about 3 months, couldn’t play anything else 😂 great video dude 👌🏼
Good video and some interesting hidden gems for the PS4. I will have to take a look at them! Thank You!
Love you metal Jesus
Alienation is an old classic and on ps4 was really cool. I really enjoy Helldivers.
I prefer Helldivers more than Alienation.
Been about 5 years and I still enjoy your videos and easy going nature
I’ve been waiting for a new hidden gems video
Ask and ye shall receive. 🙏
Great video, thanks!
It would be helpful to point out if any of these are were available physically or digital only.
Awesome list here man! Alienation is a ton of fun with a friend.
For those that like nex machina, I'd suggest trying out Ruiner or dead cells. Green hell is also an awesome challenge for the RPG gamers 😎
Late shift really looks cool to try, would be cool to see this genre grow in popularity and have them add secret endings that require certain inputs to activate in the scene
Brother, I had no idea FMV games were making a comeback. I have enough nostalgia for them to definitely take a rip through a few of them.
It's fun to see how the HouseMarque games in this video have influenced the tone, mechanics, and character of Returnal. Love to see the progression of how what came before influenced what is here now and what's coming in the future! Hats off to those devs!
I was going to say the same thing!
I was also thinking this! It’s so cool to see how they’ve built on the features we see in these twin stick shooters and adapted them to a third person game like Returnal.
Why then you need to know about Dead Nation and Super Stardust as well
Good video! I really liked the FMV inclusion even tho, Idk if I'll play it or not. Also, moons of madness.
After seeing your game hunting in Phoenix, I decided to make some stops at some Retro Game Stores next door in Mesa. Picked up ZombiU, LEGO Star Wars for DS, Brother in Arms Road to Hill 30 and Full Spectrum Warrior for the Original Xbox. Thanks for getting the word out about these places.
Boy I love these vids:3
thanks, great video!
I am a few years late to this party as I just got a PS4 at the end of the summer. I have purchased Alienation(download) and Nex Machina(physical) and love both of them. I was pleased to see Eugene Jarvis was part of the Nex Machina team as I am a huge fan of his game Smash TV. I played it like crazy in the arcade, got the Sega Genesis version (which was mediocre due to controls but I still played it like crazy as well), and then snagged it on the OG Xbox on a Midway collection. I should update that to Midway Origins.
Anyway, Nex Machina certainly has that Smash TV feel. Alienation is great too - I hope to get a physical copy eventually but it is only $5.00 on the PS Store right now so I downloaded it. Has more strategy so kind of a more thoughtful twin stick shooter. Both are great fun.
Eugene Jarvis (Creator of Defender, Robotron, and Smash TV) worked on Nex Machina with Housemarque. It was even called "the Jarvis project".
refreshing to see these again!
Nice hidden gems video Jason!
Looking good! Great video
This video came at the right time! Lots of indies on sale this weekend!
If you like moons of madness the game “Prey” is just like it and I loved it.
I totally agree with all of these. Bravo!
Nice! A PS4 hidden gems video!
I’ve got to try Late Shift. It looks awesome.
Nex Machina looks sick! Thank you for this list 👍
I always have a blast playing Onrush! I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoy playing it. Plus I love the music in it as I wreck havoc.
One of the games that I bought digitally for Xbox One X, I liked so much when it was on Gamepass and sale was only around 10 bucks or so.
@@gyorgybano2329 Nice!
Onrush was so much fun, i played it with 5 friends at the beginning of the lock down last year. Everybody was stuck at home and we all had enough time to go for the platinum.
This is one of my favorite channels. Picked up a lot of games that you recommended and I appreciate it👍..While we're on the subject of hidden gems, I have to mention a game that is one of my favorites currently on PS4. It's called "Nine Parchments"..The only problem with this game is that it is extremely difficult to complete as a single player game. It's actually meant for 4 player co-op. If you guys were into the Harry Potter style of game that was based in a magic school, this might appeal to you. It's like a combination of Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings. It's a total hidden gem and I'm surprised that I didn't hear about it until now. Definitely one of my favorites on PS4. The visuals are great and everything else is really good. The only problem is that it reaches "Dark Souls" level of difficulty if you don't complete it using at least 2 players. It can be done using local co-op or online co-op. More people should give this game a chance because we all need more players online in order to complete the game.
Kentucky Route Zero is great. Atmosphere and music is just wonderful. There is a bit of a "Lost" vibe going on, too.
Man has it been that long I still remember when he did the PS3 and PS2 hidden gems
Yessss thanks for giving onrush a shout out!
Holy shit!! Late shift too!
Penguin Wars and Supermarket Shreik are both multiplayer games that deserve more love.
Great video as always. Dont know how I’ve never seen Bloodroots before, looks like an absolute Gem for the Switch. eBay physicals are going for $100 AUD though. May have to get digital on this one.
I'm so glad you brought up Late Shift. That game was such delicious FMV gaming cheese as well as cinematic cheese. The goopiest, creamiest cheese. I enjoyed every second of it.
I honestly don't use the chapter markers in videos. Your content is excellent either way sir. Just listened to your interview on Punk Rock MBA today. New vid was great and the pod was a good listen!
The FMV game reminded me more of a Telltale game and the somewhat recent Black Mirror interactive movie on Netflix. So I think it has kind of gone full circle: from FMV games to interactive narratives in various forms and back to games again.
4K looks great, more please.
Great video love ur content
Glad to hear it
If you're into twin stick shooters, try 10Tons games Tesla vs. Lovecraft and Tesla Force.
Those are just awesome. They include some RPG elements too.
You are always finding games that I never knew existed! Thanks for expanding my search for new games!!
Happy to help!
@@MetalJesusRocks Quick question when you played the amico in 2019. Did you use an amico controller or your phone. Just want to know how the controllers feels like if you used the controller.
@L I know he played the amico 2 years ago. I just want to know how was the controller.
Man, Bloodroots does look epic, and after looking it up I came to find out that it came out on my birthday last year!! Lol
not too late to send them a thank-you note for the present
I took the advice and got alienation,it’s great
Would love to see a hidden gem videos that are exclusives.
Yes yes and more yes. It’s harder video to research but much needed
I love you included House Marque's Alienation, I made sure to get all their physical games, even some Euro imports and LRG releases including Super Stardust, Nex Machina, Matterfall and even Outland on the X360 as Ubisoft Triple Pack. They even do a zombie top down shooter like Alienation, unfortunately no physical release I know of though, called Dead Nation, for those of you into those kind of games, must check out!
Hey Metal Jesus. Great video
Great great list! I would also add Hellfront Honeymoon, whoch is phenomenal 🎉
It seems that we share similar tastes. I really enjoy those Housemarque games and Onrush and I'm going to download the rest of the games that you suggested.
Alienation reminds me of champions of norrath/dark alliance. Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve been in Seattle and made my way to both pink gorilla stores and of course I mention I’m a mjr fan
I love Annapurna Games - I believe Kentucky Route Zero is one, and another hidden gem I love is Sayonara Wild Hearts - gorgeously smooth rhythm game which recalls retro but incorporates futurized elements. Soundtrack rocks too - can’t recommend enough.
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS!!!! Especially the montage of older titles from previous videos. This is a GREAT IDEA! Also, love ya MJ but HouseMarque is pronounced "House Mark" lol
I had no idea. LOL Sorry about that 😂
@@MetalJesusRocks Keep the great videos coming!!! Love your channel!
Killer video man! I love alienation, haven't played it in a bit though this made me want to go back and slay some creatures! IDK if you've played either one of them but if you like action platformers/metroidvania type games you should definitely check out SLAIN: Back from Hell and VALFARIS...both badass games made by a 2 man team called Steel Mantis and both have original soundtracks written and recorded by one of Celtic Frosts former guitarist Curt Victor Bryant. Their both fun as hell, challenging, bloody, brutal and full of metal 🤘
Great video.
Nice video as always Jason! Let's see a new Xbox One hidden gems soon, too 😁
Not sure it would count as a hidden gem because it's a remaster. But the metal wolf chaos remaster is amazing.
OnRush! happy to see this game getting some love :D. Amazing racing game with awesome soundtrack!
It's so good!
Love collecting for PS4 and playing them 🙂🙂
They added local co-op to Alienation?! I am sold now!
Great video Jesus!
Maaaaan this was very nice and interesting video, every single game was tempting. You got this nice positive stile how to show game from bright side, nice show's You make. Man take care - Metal Jesus Rocks for real!!! No doubts 😃
I appreciate that!
