Thank you for sharing this. It has been hard not knowing how our friend’s island home was hit, and of course the whole island and town of Boca Grande. Heartbreaking seeing the backside of Mother Nature.
So sad. I worked at the first dog grooming salon there back in 2012. The trip across the bridges to the island was comparable to the Caribbean islands. So beautiful!
This is a barrier Island. It's not a matter of IF but WHEN it gets damaged again. ALL barrier Islands should be uninsurable so the rest of Florida doesn't have to pay huge rates to subside people who play Russian roulette.
Wrong! There are risks in multiple places that people live. Think Carolina floods, California earthquakes and fires, Midwest tornadoes. Hurricanes can occur along almost the entire coast of the United States. I agree that reasonable restrictions need to be in place and building codes need to be stronger. We can make it safer, but there will always be some risk. Proper building codes and risk mitigation works, but you can never eliminate all risk.
Great little town and I don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention from the media about this horrific devastation, but what about the country club and golf course? It's probably the most popular spot in Boca Grande
Agreeded, but there are many homes on BG that have been built, and will be rebuilt, to withstand another Milton. They are still standing. Infrastructure is the weak link.Trust me, improvements will follow.this, deep pockets on that little piece of paradise.
Have been working there in construction for 30 years, this is the worst I've seen. Work is still being finished from Ian's hit. My guess, this will take a long time, but it will be rebuilt.
Yep -- 'it' always gets rebuilt -- it's just a matter of if the new version looks acceptable to those who still want to live there -- new ideas and visions often change the warmth of what once was
So sad to see the damage, it must be a beautiful place before. Hope everyone there could make it through the hard time
Beautiful island that we have spent many years on, awful to see the destruction!
I have been there a few times not many years ago. It is very sad to see this

Without a doubt, the wealthy will rebuild exactly where they want to.

Pointless to rebuild in such a vulnerable place with construction methods that have no possible chance of surviving the next certain storm.

Yet, the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse was built in 1890 and has weathered the storms for 134 years. 🤔
Where’s everyone at? Not one person except a front end loader and a couple of trucks..
I've worked there, part of construction crews. Extremely costly homes all over that island.

Looking forward to this beautiful area to be back to normal again! 🙏
7 weeks later and the entire place is still a dump. Why?
My parents and I moved to Placida in 1972. There has never been damage to this extent. So sad
Had the water ever come up that high before?
never seen it that high, and the sand, insane
Oh My GOD. I LOVE YOU BOCA GRANDE.
🎵 "I built my house of sticks. I built my house on sand. Hey, Diddle-Diddle, I play on my fiddle, and wonder where I'll land." 🎵
Mother Nature has to humble you every so often to show you who’s really in charge. She just did a little landscaping adjustments.
Pink Elephant?
Otra vez lo mismo?
It will be rebuilt within 12 months. It is too special a place to not be rebuilt soon.
Doubtful
