  • A TENS / EMS Unit can be a great tool for helping to reduce and relieve ankle pain. Here are some pad placements to help relieve different types of ankle pain. Purchase a Healthmate Forever TENS/EMS Unit here: amzn.to/2LYI5rL (affiliate link)
    Some common ankle injuries that may benefit from a TENS/EMS unit include things like achilles bursitis, sprains, strains, heel pain, bone spurs, tendonitis, ankle impingement, and general arthritis.
    TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is used to help reduce pain and increase circulation. Basically the vibration of the TENS follows the same pathway as the pain pathway to the brain and helps cancel it out. It is a great alternative to pain medication. A TENS uses two or four electrodes with cross currents to surround the area. The deep vibration/massage helps relax the muscles and allow for healing. You should not get a muscle contraction when using TENS.
    EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) is designed to treat more of the muscle area than the nerves. It helps activate the muscles to help healing, and regain strength in that muscle. EMS is uncomfortable, and you should get a contraction with this. To help with elbow strengthening, placing the electrodes over the wrist extensor muscles is a great option.
    Healthmate Forever has a wide variety of TENS/EMS Units and pads. The unit I'm using in this video is the T24AB. Check out their full line of products and learn more at: amzn.to/2LYI5rL (affiliate link)

    Does it build the muscle back up. I believe I suffer from flat feet and noticed that my ankle and foot roll in where your arch supposed to be around that ankle is painful up through the calf.I was told because of having flat feet and not doing exercises to build the calf can cause this kind of pain I was wondering since it hurts so bad it's hard for me to to walk a very long time so with this machine help to stimulate the muscle to strengthen it also

    Is a tens machine good and safe for pains such as Achilles tendon? While I was in bed I felt my tendons become really tight on both ankles. Yesterday I attempted a quick sprint I injured my left tendon I have a support bandage on right now I've been looking at these tens machines. Is there a special pads for that area of the ankle? If it is safe to use how would we place the pads for that area what is the best program to use? Have a good weekend ☺️

    Hi, would it be ok to use the tens device on an ankle recovering from a 4th and 5th metatarsal fractures? The 5th has a plate and screws, could I still use the tens device on my ankle? Thank you

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 года назад +1

      You need to be cleared by your doctor first. As long as you are just using TENS (not EMS) and there are no muscle contractions when using it.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 года назад +1

      If your anterior tibialis muscle isn't contracting, that is where you would place it to help get the contraction.

    My pain is up the back of my heel...swollen bursa. Should I place one electrode low and one a little above, up on my leg?

  • @anmarpt5128
    @anmarpt5128 4 года назад

    Hello. Do you remove the electrodes from each other. Have the same effect as if the electrodes are close together.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 года назад

      Usually if you have a specific spot that's painful, you can keep them close together, but if it's a general area of pain, farther apart is better.

    If the pain is on the inside of the ankle is there a different muscle that would need worked with the EMS on the inside of the shin/calf or will the tibialis still work the whole ankle and help that inside pain?

    • @b.mariejarreau828
      @b.mariejarreau828 Год назад

      Disappointing that she doesn’t answer some of these more specific questions. Only seems to answer simple yes or ‘no’ but didn’t even address whether or not could be used for pain inside of the ankle. Very disappointing.

      TENS yes, but EMS, it depends on how far out you are from your surgery and if you are completely healed.
