    Honestly really love these videos, Ive been cycling along for a bout a year, and moved to Belgium and decided to join a group ride and was dropped within the first 5KM, embarrassing.
    But it’s okay and happens, and I think it motivated me abit more.

    Getting lapped in your first crit is tradition. I did a youth race but was undergeared because I didn't have an 52-16 So I had to ride 50-17 as I didn't have a 16 cog. Didn't hold me back too much because they weren't insanely fast but couldn't get the corners right and was at the back. 5 years later I'm a Cat 1 and racing UCI and national road race series.

  • @asams7255
    @asams7255 4 месяца назад +2

    Good job. Don’t be too worried about lapping. You had a tough time at 15:42 as I think all 3 of us were on diff laps and I just pulled myself out of the barrier😂. So long as you’re off the racing line mostly and there’s a clear way past don’t worry too much. You’re there to race as much as us

    Just a tip for when you approaching corners with the leaders behind you just stay on the outside of the corner and take a super wide line so they can still take parts of the racing line. Also well done for not giving up after lap 1 hope you get better and keep racing and maybe I'll see you at a race sometime.

    Similar to my first experience. Some years ago i thought I was fit so I signed for a Cat 5 race (american). Crashed on the first lap, then got dropped about 20 minutes later after getting a free lap. Finished about 1 whole lap behind the pack. Couldn't believe this was how fast the lowest amateur division was riding. I didn't do another race that year. But i started training specifically for racing, and a year later, decided to try it again. Now I do structured training 10-12 hrs/wk for the last 2 years and it gets me usually in the top 25% of Cat 4/5 races here, with a few close calls of a podium but not quite yet. Keep at it, it's worth it.

    Seems like a really tough course tho mate, not that bad for a first time. Im also in my first season and only finished my first race in the peloton after 6 races… despite having probably better power numbers than guys finishing at the front/top 10.
    Its so much about knowing where to ride and on who’s wheel, how to corner and conserve energy that you dont have to push 1000 watts out of every corner to catch the guy in front.
    But as long as you keep enjoying it you will just improve over time

    • @Daaaanjj
      @Daaaanjj  3 месяца назад +1

      FTP about 270 last time I checked. I thought that too but the low avg power output will be down to spending a good amount of time off the pedals whilst cornering. Bloke who won the elite race averaged 280W for his race.
      I have Garmin Rally power pedals

    Wouldn't be disheartened by the result mate. 80% of crit racing is positioning/racecraft and that only comes with experience. Everyone goes out hard, and if you can stay near the front over the first 5-10 mins you'll generally be alright for the rest of the race.
