- The 1986 EFRA Euro's 1:8 sportscars at the Clermont Ferrand track in France! The last video from that year.
I think it was the last year of the 'famous' Serpent Quattro 4WD, a car that started as a 2WD car without shocks. I designed that car with pencil and paper on a drawing board, it was our first 'independent suspension' chassis. To be honest, little did I (did we...) know about suspension geometry, roll centers etc. The main focus was on being able to manufacture the injection molding tools. These were all done by a Dutch toolmaking company. But the Quattro was quite successful in the end with several Euro, US titles and even a World championship title with Rody in Tokyo.
In the cause of the 4 years after the launch of the Quattro we added hydraulic shocks, 4WD, the 2-speed, and the quick-change wheel system. The Euro's in Clermont Ferrand were very successful for Serpent with another top-3 with Rody Roem, Jurgen Baehr (D) and Jakob Buehler (CH). This against strong competition from SG and PB. European youth champion Michele Barruzi also made the main final.
