There's a few things I like about this video. First, you didn't f it up with stupid music, you didn't fill it with a whole bunch of unnecessary b/s, you're also quite concise, I don't think you left any stones unturned.
Hey thank you SO much. I'm glad you liked the video and I hope you find it useful if you decide to hydro dip. Tried to be as thorough as we could for still being beginners ourselves. More videos coming really soon! Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much! We appreciate it:)
The filter type could be referenced for the respirator you're using. Different manufacturers have different references for filter types, usually color based.
Respect to both you guys as you mentioned everything in detail, U guys R AWESOME! Absolutely amazing work & because of you I gained more knowledge. Please continue doing this, thank you and God bless you both!
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you found the video useful. Good luck on future dips.
Don't ever let the rinsing water be hotter than your dipping water, otherwise you risk de-coloring your print !
Wish I would have seen this video first before I tried it..I learned everything I need to know by watching yalls!! About to try it again!! Thanks!!
Anytime! Glad you found the video useful:)
Priscilla Scarberry how’s it go
Make sure your pattern is the way you want it to go on the item don’t wanna any it upside down and have to look at it 😂
Yea what she said
gonna do my guns
"Dragons, skulls, flames."
Only reason why I'm kinda iffy on hydro dipping. All the film's you can buy are all kinda the same. Don't get me wrong, if you like that kinda stuff, have at it. This just makes me wanna look into printing my own films if I had the money. Haha
Sorry for the late reply, been working a lot of hours! You should take a little deeper look at films, because there are many more then the typical flames and skulls. It really depends on what you are looking for. Personally a lot of the time for test dip purposes we use flames or skulls because you can usually find the film cheaper and at a plethora of places. We prefer dips with flags, colored carbon fibered looks, and camo patterns more particularly. So try not to let the skulls discourage you, because there are many other choices with a little searching. Regarding to making your own film patterns, my father and I both wish we had the means to make our own, maybe sometime in the near future? Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. :)
Where can i get the flims
Thanks for clear, to the point break down of each step. Honestly, I was on the fence bout trying to do this myself till I saw this vid. Great vid guys
Thank you so much! Best of luck. If you have any questions feel free to ask:)
But nice paint job
Thanks so much bros.
I really learn how to apply that thing. I've decided not buy a new guitar. Now I will do your advice hehe
Showed this to my students today and they really want to give this a go, how do you fancy a little trip to the UK and doing a lesson or two?. I think we will start off with the the basic hydro dipping of shoes then move onto bigger and better things. loved how you clearly explained each stage. Full marks for presentation.
Thank you very much for your kind words! I'd say a trip would be spectacular Haha. Hydro dipping is definitely something worth spending a little time on. It's also a bunch of fun! Best of luck and I hope your students enjoy:) Good to hear our video was useful.
Jimmy2Tech where can I get the film
@@zayyisbetter-d1 links are right in the description for you or you can research places like Amazon and Ebay. Just search for "hydrographic film" and you'll find what you need.

Thanks for a great video, clear shots and very well explained.

What i'am seeing the shiny clear side is down into the water > the dull side set on top of the water
Don't go by look of shiny or not, I would do the finger test and see which side is sticky and that side faces down.
Good DIY video but one one major thing you guys failed to mention is that this process only works on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastics. If you follow this same process on a parts made of polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PET), or Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) plastics, I can guarantee that the person following the process will have problems. The reason the process will not work on the other plastics is because every plastic except ABS needs to be "FLAME TREATED" to "out-gas" the release agents stuck in the plastics during the molding process. You need to identify the type of plastic you are working on First. All molded plastics have one identifiers mentioned above on the backside of the part. If you follow the instructions in this video and you are working with anything but ABS, you will get lifting during the painting process, separation during the dipping process and lifting at some point after the process......guaranteed! If you don't know what type of plastic you have "flame treat" the part to be safe.
Steve Clark well said! Will note that on the next video:)
What did you use to remove the dip from the mirror? Other than that great job. Thank you very much.
Some glass cleaner and a razor blade. Carefully scrape the film off the mirror as if you were scraping off a sticker. Then once it's off just give it a quick clean with some glass cleaner and you should be as good as new!
Concise professional approach. ...I hope you get many followers in the future....would like to see a catalogue of designs or some of your own designs
paul goodier thank you so much for your kind words! Yeah my dad and I are still beginners. Hopefully we get better in the future and can upload more personal content. Custom projects and so forth. OMG IT'S DIPPED IN WATER! Hahahahaha! Hydro dipped! Tooo cute...👀👏
is there a chrome hydrodip graphic or gold? Like it would look like chromed parts after you dip it??
Haven't looked yet, I'll spend some time looking for some for you! Cause you're right that would look amazing. Especially a gold film on like a weapon stock.
@@Jimmy2Tech I looked on amazon but couldn't see anything like that.

“Liked” for the 2A shirt.
I dipped 2 items and the dip was just leaking off when I was letting it dry I didn't paint it before hand 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah you have to paint it so the dip has something to adhere to. If you want to keep the base color you can paint it with a clear.
Kinda wanna see someone do something crazy like hydrodipping their entire truck. That would be cool.
Hey...you let me use an inground swimming pool and I'd be more than happy to give it a whirl. Haha.
@@Jimmy2Tech Yo yo I wanna ask you something. Do I need a special printer to hydro drip and if yes, which one?
@@chrisven899 there is a printer that prints the film, but that's out of our league at the moment. We just buy the film currently.
@@Jimmy2Tech Is it really expensive, or is it kind of affordable? And thank you for answering
@@chrisven899 to be honest with you I'm not to sure of the price. Awhile ago when I looked it was pretty pricey (a few hundred) so we've always just bought the film because it's pretty cheap:)
What's a good reliable film brand name? & where can one purchase a sheet or role & get it printed on? Or is it a DIY process, considering having access to the equipment? & would there possibly be "open to the public"/"walk in" locations & pay $$$ to put in an order?
Its semi difficult to find a film brand name as most just list the item as hydrographic film. I would just reccomend purchasing film from the US from a larger manufacturer like Kansas City Hydrographic, but there are many around if you search some. I know there Is a DIY was to print the film pattern but we haven't really looked into it as the films provided cover our basic needs. As for open to the public I'm not exactly sure for whatever area you originate. I'd search the web and look for hydrographic shops in your area and possibly give them a call and see what they can do. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching:)
What paper do u use for images im trying to learn how to atart hydro dip

Gavla Tennis well thank you kindly. Glad we could be of some help to you:) thanks for watching
What sort of timing window do you have between pulling the object out of the water, and doing the rinse? Is there a "too soon"? And how long is too late?
After pulled out of water we wait around 1 to 2 minutes and then give it a rinse with hot water. Make sure there isn't to much pressure out of the faucet.
Loved this!!! THANK YOU for giving so much detail on your how to instructions.
Very nice work… teamwork absolutely positive. Thank you.
You moved one side faster than the other. That's why the dragons came out spaced weird. Also, the tape is to keep it from spreading out. It doesn't act as a float.
I thought the matte look looked better personally. But nice touch.
Look at the pattern they used. The dragons are spaced out weird on the pattern itself it did not happen from dipping. You cannot fix a pattern by dipping a different way.
@@xex2kok good catch. Dunno how I missed that. Appreciate the cordial correction
Okay, I guess I'm the only one bothered by the fact that no one has ever Ajaxed that sink - ever. I wouldn't dip in that...there's rust & all sorts of other (lord knows what) contaminates from that sink in the water. Regardless, I'm starting to get into hydro-dipping & your guy's video came up. Gracias, good luck in future endeavors.
Haha yeah it's a work sink in the garage. So it's pretty stained! We usually clean it real well in the spring time. Glad you're trying hydrodipping. You're gonna love it! Best of luck.
Brilliant tutorial thank you :-)
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it.

Hey gentleman thank you very much for your help today on answering a couple questions. I'm probably making this more complicated than it actually is respectfully Jim p

Does you replying to Hemaang make you a "free speech nut". Exercising a right does not make one a "nut". Mindlessly dropping SJW passive aggressive judgements about someone you know nothing about is a whole lot nuttier than wearing a t-shirt. Try questioning your programming, free thought is amazing and fun. Give it a chance.
where would you get that film?? or how to you make that yourself? is it a special printer??
We got a bunch of our film from Kansas Hydrographics we also purchased some on amazon that did well. You can print your own but it is a process. It is not really a special printer unless you want wide film. it is a special film though.
Where do you get the film?
Links right in the description:)
Jimmy2Tech you fucking smart ass watch your mouth
How many applications are possible with one aerosol can of activator? Lets say on multiple projects the same size as the mirror you did in this video? Thank you in advances.
You're going to get quite a few. We've done a few dozen dips off of one can with various sized items. It goes a pretty decent way so you won't have to worry about only having enough for a dip or two. :)
U need to speak louder. Ur both mumbling
In your garage I noticed some RC vehicles, did you hydro dip those bodies? Any tips on that? I am looking to do that on a new buggy.
Hello David,
Thanks for checking out our channel. Yes we have tried dipping an RC body once but we must have not prepped the surface good enough because it stated to lift. But we tried it early on and had the cheaper film and we did not use the OHW paint which would have worked way better. We will have to try again soon.
Hello sir I m from India and I want to get that films so is it avilable to order from India or what because I couldn’t fill the form while order confirmation because of there we could not select our country so please suggest some other websites to purchase the film
Thanks👍
If you can not purchase from the links we provided, just simply search the internet for "hydrographic film" and you should come up with many results and can sort by location to ensure that the film you order can be shipped to India.
Not sure if you guys still check the comments on this video, but where would someone be able to purchase the film with their own custom artwork/designs on it?
You can get custom stuff done you can look online. If you were interested in doing it long term, then you can gwt the printer and the film for it and custom build your own designs:)
Im looking to hydrodip some Tin candle containers for my business. But my question is do i NEED to seal them? Or can i simply dip and be done? Since I do not want to add any flammable sprays to it. My plan is to dip the lids as well as 90% up the tin but not up to the top line. I would stop at the lid line. Thoughts?
Thank you!
You can get away without sealing it, but the dip will lack the shine element and be more susceptible to scratches and scrapes. So the clear coat has two purposes for this application. If you are fine with the candles dipped to not be shinning then you can manage without clear coat I would imagine. I'd always side with it for safety and life of the dip, but as you said it is a candle and will be inside out of the elements and away from a lot of scratch and scrape damage. :)
@@Jimmy2Tech thank you so much for the reply! I appreciate it! I'll be sure to test like crazy if I clear coat it!

Made me very happy seeing that you prepped your plastic properly instead of doing the amateur trying to prime it and then dip it and then it looks like shit after it starts to peel after couple days weeks however long it takes but it will peel if you don’t prep properly
Well thanks. Yeah, that dip is still kicking to this day and it's been years!
Man I want to do my truck mirrors will it last very long?? Love ya'll work new subscriber 🥰
Yeah it will deffinatwly last if you do the proccess right and use some quality clearcoat. Had it on there for like 3 years then ended up selling the truck but the dip was still on there! Thanks for the support:)

That is ugly it does not match the truck
Maybe both of you should wear respirators you're in pretty close proximity, but hey I purposely inhaled cigarettes for 15 years, who am I to judge
The mask is not bad at all in price. Then you look at the filters and wanna cry. 4 of them is $100. 2 is not an option. I wish they were less damn this sucks cause i dont wanna breath this shit in
fascinating! Thank you.
I have watched a bunch of these but one thing no one answers. You have to be so careful putting the mirror into the water but then you swish it around, why? Why are you so careful, then swish it? How does the swishing around not wash the film off when you had to be so careful lowering the mirror in the first place? Problem is these videos are all so old no one is paying attention to the comments anymore.
You have to be carful dipping the mirror so you don't get air bubbles under the film. After the film is applied it is ok to swish it around. We swish it around to remove the excess film to the outer edges so when you pull it out it doesn't stick to your part.
@@Jimmy2Tech Thank you so much
Hello Jimmy, I just got my film and tried dipping some parts but the problem is that the film won't break down after dipping and when i get it out the water it remains slimy and sticky plus it moves from the subject. ( I have not used any activator ) Wwhat is the problem here?
- can it be done without activator?
- should I use sand paper on the parts before dipping it?
- should I spray a base on metal or it can be done without it? because most of my work is on plain metal, steel.
- does it remain if I dipped an exhaust without clear coating spray?
I really would appreciate it if you could help me with some of these points.
Thanks,
Saeed
Hello. You're going to need activator for this process to work. So once you set the film on the water, you will spray it with the activator a moment later, then dip your item. This should make it so the film sticks, then you can rinse off the item with some warm water to get the sticky coating off. At this point let the item dry and clear coat. If you're just dipping steal or sheet metal, you don't have to base paint, but do make sure the item is clean and does not have any oil on it as it may cause the film not to stick. Hope this was some help. Good luck on your future dips.
@@Jimmy2Tech Thank you so much for your reply! I really barely find specific info on YT.
“The second amendment is my gun permit” 😂😂
So awesome..Where did you find this film pattern?
Link in the description. If you search hydrographic film on the internet, there are hundreds of patterns to choose from :)
So that’s sticky side to the water
Hey that was STELLAR !!!!!!!! How much is it total to do a bike with both tank and fenders ? Maybe a little bit extra to match a helmet as well ?? Thank you guys that was exactly what was hoping to see when i punched in my question on google
Todd Kennedy thank you so much for your kind comment. It's a little hard to give a deffinate price for all that if your doing it yourself. Links to all the equipment we used are in the description. That will give you a start price wise of your doing it yourself. Having a shop do it is out of my knowledge range currently. Just know you'd need a bit more film to cover all that surface area, and I'd recommend a 2 stage clear coat to really protect the film from both fading from the sun, or any of the elements. I hope this was semi helpful. If you have anymore questions or want to discuss this further, just Direct message me on the Facebook page and I'd be more than happy to help out. Thanks for watching :)
the only issue ii have with hydro dipping is they are limited in their patterns why can't people choose what they want or have it made
You can choose what you want, but there is a certain printer designed for that application. That way you can pick your own patterns.
i have a ps3 that i anit used in years and would like to give it a new look cause i am into american flags but that want happen after i get my own house and when that time comes then I will start doing some hydro dipping in my house or work shop sames gose for other old things lol
How do you prep and dip a surface that is not perfectly smooth? Some plastic interior automotive parts have a texture, how does that work??
You can dip some textured items, just make sure its prepped as good as you can and you shouldnt have an issue. Just make sure the texture isnt sharp which may pose as a problem with dipping as it may rip the film.:)
How durable is the finished product?
Cheers
With some clear coat it will take a pretty good beating. It's pretty set for the elements but if you're going to be scratching it all the time it probably won't last as long.
Hi mate do you know if you can get the ONE HIT WONDER delivered to Leeds England ??
I'm pretty sure they are US only at the moment. Hard to transfer aerosols overseas.
Ok mate thankyou
Good video - thanks! And, love the T-shirt!
Thank you so much!
How do you get the film? Can anything be printed in the film?
You can purchase online with preprinted designs (links in description). There are printers that allow you to print your own images but we haven't tinkered with that yet so we are not really educated in that department.
Very nice I like how you done .
Informative video! Thanks!
Can I powdercoat over hydrographics
Honestly do not know the answer.:/ I'll do some research for yah.
First time I tried it, during the rinse some of my design came off. Trying again. This is how we learn.
Guys where do you get the film? Can you print or design your own?
Links to everyrging we used in the description. That can get you started. You can print your own film but you need a special printer and all the required equipment.
Love the shirt 👍🏼💪🏼
If I am doing multiple pieces do I need to start with a fresh batch of water each time?
Nope. Just make sure that the water is still at good temperature. And then skim the excess film off the water. You can do this pretty well with a shop paper towel.
Quick question. Sticky side of film faces down in the water or up towards the person? Going to give this a try..lol
Down towards the water:)
When i use my sprayer in the sink to rinse the gloss it washes away the film a little
When that happens there is a good chance you're nott using enough activator for your dip. Make sure you get. A thorough, even spray, and give the item a minute or two after the dip before you spray. Make sure your sprayer also isn't to much pressure. The goal is to rinse off the excess junk so the film isn't damaged.
I thought this guy was Froggy Fresh.
The younger fellah?
do you have a video of dipping an RC body? doing the inside?
We have done it but didn't record it sadly. Maybe we will have to do that again on video this time.
What is film?? And where can I get some???
This is hydrographic film and you can find links in the description to start your search:)
Hey, great vid., thanks. What did you use to get the print off the mirror please?...
Super easy to get the extra off the mirror. Just get some glass cleaner and a razor blade and gently scrape it off as if you were peeling off a sticker. Once it's off just wipe it up with some glass cleaner and you're good to go.
@@Jimmy2Tech Awesome thanks dude, have subscribed and will be checking all your stuff! 👍
Well Done Guys 💞💌💞💞💞💋. Very informative keep up the good work. Thanks
How durable is it for scratching?
Light scratches you are usually fine. I highly reccomend using a good clearcoat with a few layers on it if you believe your product will get scraped or rubbed alot.
Am i the only tree hugger here slightly bothered by the paint on the tree? Lol odd so odd but idk. Anyway great video!
Great video guys. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
I'm new to the hydro dipping, but isn't it supposed to be sticky side down and rinse with cold water?? 🤔
There are a bunch of different procedures and you can perform whatever one is more convenient for you. This is the way we learned and have had the best success with.
@@Jimmy2Tech cool just about to do some engine bay parts (1st attempt) and noticed some videos use cold water to rinse, sticky side down, and others are opposite. Wasn't sure if it was a product recommendation or if it was operator preference.
you dont want to tape all four sides! If you do that, the film wont be able to hydrate in the water properly!
Thanks for the help
can you do the same method when dipping cloth or leather shoes like vans?
To be honest with you we havent tried yet we have it in the works. I'm not sure it would work on cloth or leather because of how much flexibility those materials have. The dip may stick but as soon as your material bends the dip may crack.
Where can I buy the film and activator? That's Badass I want to try this on a motorcycle tank
