Not trying to be the Monday morning quarterback as I’m always glad to see people take on projects they’ve never done before and learn from that. Nonetheless I just wanted to point out that you didn’t need to go through all that “tool making” for the axle seals. You’re mistake was trying to install the axle, the bearing, & the seal as a whole unit. All you needed to do was install each part individually. First you place the bearing in the race seat first (use grease to help it stay put) then Install the seal (use a block of wood to seat it in there) Last step; Now you can slide the axle in. Don’t be afraid to use some grease or lubricants to make things easier. Hope this helps. 👍🏻
You’re right , I should’ve done it that way. I only did it assembled because I was worried the bearing might cock eye and I’d have to pull it back out tearing the seal. However after doing it and seeing how easily they went on. You’re way is the correct assembly. I appreciate the help Mike

I know it’s to late but, Next time you need to knock a bearings on and you don’t have a pipe, cut one side of the old bearing with a cutting wheel and use it to install (beat) the race on, cutting it stops it from getting stuck. And it fit’s against the new bearing perfectly ! With no damage.
Love the series. You will have a great, fully restored, million dollar machine when you are done! I'm glad I'm not the only one that considers their labor as free. I've repaired or modified equipment for probably 5 or 10 times the price of simply replacing it (if you count labor)! It sure makes good content, though.
If you can get the sme parts elsewhere at a better price then why not, Timken is a reputable manufacturers so can’t see how you can go wrong. It’s fantastic to see that everything is falling into place, perfect preparation prevents piss poor performance so you are reaping the rewards of your efforts. Cost breakdown was great, editing awesome, great vlog
Great info on the part prices and secondary sourcing. You can save on the paper gaskets by cutting your own out of gasket sheets, but you probalby already know that. Great channel you got here, as seen by all the positive comments.

I purchased a 743b and the condition was better than yours however, drive motors were leaking into chaincase and i didnt know what I was going to do,till i found this page. THANKYOU!! By the way,I saw your Zooyork hoodie. Harold Hunter was a friend of mine. Last thing, do you have a parts list you could share with us?
If memory serves me correctly, those bearings are a Timken LM104949 bearing and a LM104912 race. I've also used the 410519 National seals if you're looking to save some cash on those outer seals.
Yes. Those are the bearing numbers I used. This is the number for the outer seals from allskidsteers.com 6513277. They were $6.95 each Thanks for national seal number. I wasn’t able to confirm they would fit. So I chose the others

I heated the seal sleeve before installing it when I did this job on a 743, check my channel if you are interested in watching my 743 axle struggles
You can also use the nut on the inside gear to suck everything together and seat the inside race/bearing. OP is probably past that step by now.
