Can you control it remotely if it is far away? Like can I control it through the app when the device is in my sons back pack at school?
Unfortunately, no. It works on bluetooth so if you aren't around, you cannot control the device

I keep recorder on for a long time and it keeps starting new recording files without me shutting it off or whatever. Why is this doing this?

@@ByValentineLewis I found that you put the slider button to Bluetooth mode and then hit record from the app and this should stay on Steady record. From manual.
