Hey! That's my post on the Viper Club forum at 5:49! Never in a million years did I think it would end up on RUclips. Almost 20 years later and still no answer to the origin of 'Sneaky Pete'.
No way! That's amazing! Haha you and I wondered the same thing, and yet there is still no answer.
I know! What are the odds! I have since sold my Gen 2 coupe but if you ever want to review a Launch Edition Gen V, let me know.
So I've been looking for gen 2 viper videos ( the RT-10 and the countach where my dream cars when I was in high school in the 90s) and coming across this video I noticed you guys asking this question. Very good question on why its called that. I never thought to ask but that name Sneaky Pete referenced hidden nitrous in the 90s. Back in the 90s the race culture was huge, especially in my town as I lived near a performance auto parts store and warehouse called NOPI. They sponsored race and track events like the Race Wars you see on the first Fast and the Furious movie but on the east coast. During the 90s it was all too common to see various honda civics and mustang fox bodies duking it out on the streets and at the dragstrip with everyone looking for an edge so they could roast the other guy. We would all hook up and talk trash after racing for those that didn't wreck or get a ticket. The police absolutely hated car culture back then and rightfully so.
Many guys employed small hidden nitrous bottles called "Sneaky Petes" which were thin nitrous bottles that looked like tubes more than bottles and where hidden in various places like under seats and even under the car and would literally hide the nitrous line inside an oversized fuel line all the way to the engine and even injectors. Many races had a no nitrous policy because it gave such an advantage back in the day (I ran a 175 shot on a 200hp car so you can see the significance) and so your car had to pass inspection before you were allowed to race. Even street racing the other racer would demand to inspect your car before racing because usually money was on the line and they wanted to make sure you didn't have any NOS. This is why NOS was so prevalent in the first Fast and the Furious movie. You could take any underpowered car and make it a monster at least for a few pulls until the engine and trans shredded themselves lol, which is what happened to the Mitsubishi Eclipse (and that happened often as those engines and trans were TERRIBLE).
So naturally guys wanted to try and cheat because it wasn't all about the bragging rights and the trash talk once you won a race since alot of people placed bets for lots of cash (ego in the 90s got so many people into so much unnecessary trouble). Silly to talk about it now but that was the culture back then (Heck I even put stickers on my door like WWII aircraft kills did on plane fuselages - made alot of people mad so I eventually took them off as I almost got jumped more than once - so if you drove a honda civic and I beat you I would get a honda logo in the color of the car and the license plate number in white and make a small sticker of those two combined and put it on the driver door in a stacked row lol).
I'm guessing you will probably need to email Chrysler and find out why the logo was called Sneaky Pete but since its owned by Fiat I'm sure those original designers are long gone. Will probably have to find out who worked on the project and see if you can email them, either message them on LinkedIn or Facebook. I highly doubt they have modern social media accounts. So my guess is that the snake would look like a sneaky pete installed and makes the car way faster than it should be. I'm sure it's not the whole reason and there may be another or a completely different reason but I figure I would offer this piece of the puzzle just in case. I'm sure its been lost to time. This peak into 90s car culture should help you figure out design choices of the logo and design back then.
The sneaky pete is the only viper logo in my mind.
This man reviews my dream car, never thought I'd see the day! 🔥🔥
I did it for you!
God Bless you Isaac, we can love all in this world, but I feel there's a special place for Jesus and Dodge Vipers in our hearts hahaha
Haha one more so than the other but I agree

@@InTheZone85 does that work?
1992 1st gen...it was iconic and being 12...I couldn't wait to play Crusin' World in 1996...
This by far your best video yet! Funny😂😂
Thank you Shane!
2002 Viper GTS......my favorite car ever! This is an awesome video! Well done
Amazing video, great job!!!!
"Gen 2. Its prettier than a gen 3 and I can't afford a gen 4" 😂
Gen 3 and gen 4 are the same design. A Gen 3 is less expensive than this Gen 2. Then there is the Gen 5 that's between 120k to 300k.
@@Topofthelinetommy the old man meant gen 5 but most people don't know any better.
Your review is really good! You're doing things that has been missing in every other reviews. You are on your way to be another new great figure in the auto review industry!
Thank you!
The review is great I think you’ll get big soon and I like the prayer at the end of the video
Maybe! And if I don't, that's okay too. I'm blessed to be able to have come this far. Thank you for the encouragement though!
Thanks for a detailed reviews ,one of the best cars i have ever experienced got a chance to race one fitted with a VictorRacing active wing ,this car is a beast
1:06 It's like a documentary lol. Great Video Isaac!
Thank you! I love doing documentary style stuff more recently.
@@AlphaShark Cool! Btw, do you have discord or a discord server?
Great video brother! I just came across it. The Viper has been my childhood dream car and you got just about everything right…(that shifter is not stock) lol I loved the video. The best part was the end. The reading of scripture and asking to pray for anyone/everyone was an awesome display of strength and boldness for the Lord. That was great. You got me as a subscriber based on that. Keep doing what you’re doing brother! Great stuff!!
You have a great potential buddy 👏
Thank you Squidward!
Great review. Can confirm. Owning a Gen 2 Viper is awesome. :)
When you drive a Viper and you drive real easy, it;s not so bad but if you think I got this the Viper will bite. You the gas hard , it responds quick but when you let off it's still going and will get your butt messed up quick . Showing off in one of these will et you in trouble quick .
It’s a car you can’t be prideful in
I may be wrong, but I think MOST cars did not have traction control and ABS in 1992. Everyone remarks about the original Viper lacking these driver aides because it seems dangerous by today's standards. But standards were different back then. Traction control was in its infancy, and didn't even show up in a Mercedes until 1995. My mom's 1997 Thunderbird RWD V8 didn't have ABS or traction control. Airbags were becoming more common in the early 90s, but they were not required until 1998.
The Viper V10 was never designed based off of the Dodge V10 Truck Engines..
Matter of fact there are zero parts that they share... It's seriously like saying all v8s are the same when indeed they're not...
All my info is correct, it was based on the Chrysler LA family of engines that were designed for Dodge pickup trucks.
@@AlphaShark sorry you're so-called credible sources of information is all incorrect... Dodge knew that the truck engine was too heavy, Dodge knew they wanted a unique engine, So they created it from scratch.. Chrysler owned Lamborghini at the time and Lamborghini had the experience with the aluminum blocks.
This engine in the Viper is not part of any other V10 engine that was designed for the truck, until they used the V10 in the viper truck.
I cannot remember if it was your video or a different one I saw today... With some more misinformation about the horsepower... of course you think you did your research.. Google is often wrong. The Viper was actually under rated as far as horsepower from the factory. In one of my videos I show the true horsepower numbers for the generation 2 Viper... how do I get this information? Sure I meet the CEO of Dodge, But when I met him it was at Conners assembly plant in Detroit and had the privilege of meeting the men and women who worked with the viper for over 25 years.... If you would have had the opportunity to tour the assembly plant You would have come across the actual Viper facts.... The facts of what the Viper truly had as far as horsepower is concerned.
there's way too many RUclips videos out there providing false information even though I know it's meant to be positive You're providing wrong information It's an accurate... accepting that accountability goes further than wanting to debate something on information you really don't know about....
@@dodgefreakingviper You're absolutely right. I find myself having to explain this to people constantly. There is so much miss information about the Viper because of how much hatred it generates. People need to understand this car won its class nearly 3 years in a row. Had they not missed a season they would have broke the record. Imagine how pissed off the world was as a result. The only thing this V10 shares with the truck engine is that they're both pushrod with OHV lol!
Lamborghini helped design the viper v10 :)
A Dodge Viper was definitely the fastest car I’ve ever been in! 😮
So what kind of radio was it?
anyone lifting their hood do everything you can to ensure you're lifting it as straight as possible. Don't try to lift and force it to twist, worst case scenario you crack the hood and/or bend the lifts/hinges.
I didn't read through all the comments but just a quick note - ALWAYS close the hood by pushing over the hinges. These will flex and crack how you are doing it. Open it from the center as it will twist on the brackets just the same.
FYI the daffy duck logo is the early cars logo (unshown) and most hilarious.
Yeah I've edited that section out today.
5:36 i cringed and groaned out loud as i watched you push the wrong spot.. only Viper owners know what I'm talking about.
And only Viper owners would comment this much lol
Also cringe here! I enjoyed the video though!
I wasn't going to say anything....lol
I still want one, that black is damn beautiful 😍
14:50 Also might not be "appropriate" to pull into the church parking lot on Sunday for services, with a Viper, Charger/challenger Demon orHellcat... or the classic Dart Demon/Swinger but I wouldnt argue about the cool factor of owning one.
I think you can accept Jesus if you own one of these cars 😂 you just don’t have to be showy about it
Very nice.
My grandfather had a 2000 RT/10 black with black and tan interior I got to drive It everywhere with him when I first got my license unfortunately now he’s gone and the car too now it’s only great memories it’s my dream to have my own one day I get so excited about everytime I see one now makes me just as happy as I was when I was a kid
That’s awesome
It is NOT a truck engine. Never was! That aside, fun review!
My favorite was the 98 Viper that was blue with white stripes
That was a great color!
Not related to truck engine outside of cylinder count and common bore centers
Agree 🙌
My name is Paul Thomas I’m a beloved as well car collector goinbto boy 2000-2010 Viper one for my collection thanks for the video !
Gen2 Vipers.
Extraordinary cars.
Singular and incredibly unique.
I can write a list of cars I really like...Pantera, the Shelby Cobra and Daytona, just to name a few. But the Gen2 Viper easily sits atop the list...
and in my garage. ;)
Really fun review and I certainly appreciate your prayer at the end.
Let kindness be your guide.
Take good care.
Great car.
He said "numbers have been going up" -touched his face when he said that so he does not believe that statement.
Love the Viper. Isaac, you have a haircut emergency.
Haha I am going to get my hair cut! Don't worry.
Great video, I love the bloopers. How many days did you take the film? In some segments you have facial hair and in some you don’t? Psalm 27. Stay Strong and be Blessed.
A lot of days haha I filmed it over probably around 2 weeks.
He forgot to mention the ball cooler vents for the driver and passenger… 😂
Thanks for reviewing my favorite vehicle 🇺🇸👍🏻 glad I found your channel just subscribed. Could you please 🙏🏻 say a prayer for my brother James Ryan he is suffering from cancer that has developed from September 11th God bless you.

Soap and water cleans the skin
Awesome video, how tall are you? I'm 6'8" and interested in a viper, cheers!
I am 5’10” haha a little different! But you might be able to fit
@@AlphaShark thanks very much, great work
I own a gen 2 GTS coupe, sadly you will not have the head room. Your eyes would be at the top of the windshield frame in a vert (very low windshield). It is possible to lower the seating with aftermarket frame or seats, but I'm still not sure that would be enough for you.
you deinfitely wont fit in a Viper at 6'8"
@@ssoffshore5111 thanks very much, I'll have to see for myself it seems, and if I don't fit then I guess fewer miles for the viper!
I’m Hispanic living in Texas and I will always call the viper the víbora it’s Spanish for snake/vipers!!!
If it meant having a shot at owning a convertible, I'd have bought a Viper years ago... but have no access to a garage. :(
Safety features aren't any deal breakers. I don't have airbags in my summer car... nor do many Jeep owners. Real Jeeps. Traction control? Uh.... I don't think Mitsubishi knew the term in the 90s.
Who would put a wing on a RT/10?
Factoids for the win!

serious ass channel name 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Are you asking or agreeing?
first 20 seconds of this were the best cringe iv'e seen in years thanks
No problem Mike! I do what I can for you :)
Gave you a like, but there's still too much random junk added to the video.. My opinion
You are going to seriously damage the hood shutting it that way......investigate where the actual hinge is, how to properly lower it and where to actually push for the final closure.
I was shown to do it that way, but thankfully I don't believe many of us will own Dodge Vipers in our lifetime!
@@AlphaShark I totally understand and wasn't being disrespectful, lowering it down with one hand in the center (easily) so the tabs line up on both sides and then the final close is almost between the side vents, that's where the hinge is. Anything to the front of that and you are pushing down on a very expensive hood with no support up there at all. They are very easily cracked unless you know the proper procedure. Awesome video though, love all Vipers, Gen 2 GTS especially. :)
@@mxvet354 Even worse was the method used to lift the hood! NEVER lift the hood from the rear corner like that (it's possible to crack the hood from the twisting of it), always lift it more from the center area.
@@ssoffshore5111 whenever i open mine i have someone else get the other side from me
Yes please pray I want this same car in red my grandfather had one. Awesome video thanks. Jesus is King and lord
I’ll pray for Gods will!
Umm.. On all cars the driver seat belt crosses opposite way of than passenger.
I have never had so many people come out of the woodwork to criticize me as much as you guys have on the Viper. It's so silly, and most of the times you guys are wrong lol. The seatbelt being on the left side of the seat is very rare, and I have reviewed hundreds of cars and every single one has the seatbelt on the B-pillar and it clicks over the driver from right to left. It would be nice if you said "hey this was a good video and I can see the hard work you put into it, it's not my cup of tea but that's okay"
@@AlphaShark they didn't say the seatbelt being on the left side is not rare, they said it crosses the opposite way of the driver's on all cars, which is true - I'm sure there are select few exceptions, but generally it is
But what you say is nonsense because B-pillar is on your left side - how does it then cross from right to left if it's on the left side? The only way what you say could be reflective of reality is if you reviewed hundreds of RHD cars, then sure, the driver's seatbelt goes from right to left while being on the B-pillar - however even in that case driver and passenger seatbelts still cross opposite ways of each other
Ok, I'm already done after a few minutes. The engine was NOT designed for trucks. Next.
The engine was originally based on the Chrysler LA platform for the trucks. And adapted by Dodge in conjunction with Lamborghini for the Viper. I do my research.
K CAR ? WHAT ABOUT THE MINIVAN? ALSO , YOU THINK DIE HARD IS THE GOAT XMAS MOVIE ?? WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM !? WAIT , YOU MUST BE A MILLENIAL !!😂
