Played the demo constantly in 2002 when I was in high school. I could never find a full copy of the game around that time. Managed to get a full copy around 2010's. I struggled through it but I managed to complete the campaign. It's now 2024 with a re-release on steam. Played a few missions but my it was a struggle with the lack of keybinds, resolution, mouse scrolling issues etc. So I do some research and to my surprise there is a fricken community to an amazing niche game from over 20 years ago that is still keeping it alive, fixing 100% of the issues and still providing more content. Amazing stuff guys, love to see it

The Enhanced Edition isn't multiplayer focussed, as you said it has the most potential because it's actually a new code base as opposed to just DLL injections. What we chose to drop support for was PopScript, the archaic language used to build the old campaigns, so it's true we don't preserve old campaign integrity. However we have a full list of documented LUA functions as well as an advanced set of LUA hooks that make any new campaigns built on it function amazingly well. It's more appropriate to say Multiverse Launcher preserves the integrity of the original and old custom campaigns and is suited better specifically to replaying them. Aside from that as more modders get used to LUA over PopScript, the campaigns that can come out on 1.5 (such as the co-op campaign at first, but more importantly the recent seasons pack) have far more limitless potential, as the ability to 'just change the code' exists for the 1.5 team. You'll also be pleased to know we actually TESTED the past few patches before the update, wild I know! Good video though, prompt and mostly devoid of politics.

I'm so stoked! I just built a new pc and hadn't re-installed everything yet, so being able to pick this up on Steam and show support to the series while also being able to re-install the game a bit easier? I'm down lol

Dunno where the Populous OG devs are right now... C&C Remastered only turned out soo good since most of the OGs are now at Petroglyph and they got involved too. For this, I'd hope a separate IP spiritual successor independent from EA. The War for the Owerworld team did amazing with Dungeon Keeper, maybe the community should try to cooperate with them.

Hi! Is anyone playing it on linux? I want to play it again, but I am afraid to not get to load those versions you mention as I am not so good to solve problems in Wine and troubleshooting without any path to follow is a nightmare
does this solve, that the multiverse launcher tells me "the launcher is not installed in your populous 3 directory"? i definitly installed it in the Populous 3 - file , so in wonder :(

I play P:tB since early 00s when I got it as a gift from my father, and you are in no right to forbid or prevent me from playing it in original way if I want to. Like, I wanted to replay the game (main campaign) in the most "vanilla" state possible before installing enhanced edition or multiverse, what's your problem with that? You should know that there are different kinds of retrogamers, there are even guys who only ever play 1.0 versions of games without even official patches, that does not mean they dont respect all the amazing wokrs that fans do with sourceports or other improvements. Everyone have their own way of life and preferences. Please, don't do such mind manipulating techniques in your videos (like "your gonna be a fool if you don't use those enhancements mmkey"), that's not cool. I understand what you feel, i mean, I come from Daikatana community and it's basically saved by fans who made amazing 1.3 fanpatch and keep supporting it enthusiastically for years, just like you guys do it with either ptb 1.5 or multiverse, but please be more careful with the way you're educating people about better options... when you try to force it, it usually goes the other way. Also I think real fan will end up keeping ALL possible versions for the hell of it. Sorry if i speak harsh, but im sincere. Anyway, thanks again for all your Populous content on this channel, and best wishes!
and yes, im not the only one who prefers d3d mode due nostalgia or artistic preferences (cant stand dithering of skybox in software ptb personally). dgvoodoo or PCem for the rescue in that case...

Absolutely! And it was made so long ago. DAWs & computers were not what they are today, so he did well to source those sounds, & create the tracks.

I can't play PTB3 on 1440p resolution. The game crashes. Is a Multiverse bug or is not possible?
Anything above 1080p isn't guaranteed to work.
