Ethics Gradient Well, he couldn't be defeated in any other way. Literally. Killing him in battle would be impossible, because of his genius. He couldn't be defeated with the Force, because of Ysalamiri
Liked? There’s an understatement. If Palpatine didn’t appease the idiots he wouldn’t need a Death Star because Thrawn would just tear apart any opponent. If backed by Vader, the Rebels might as well quit while they’re ahead.
I second that idea. As Thrawn's campaign/campaigns is the only one that nearly destroyed the New Republic, post endor and he did all without superweapons and with minimal military resources at his disposal, (due to reborn emperor hording them and some warlords refusing to commit small fraction of assets to his control) until he got his hands on mount tantiss and dark force. So an in-depth analysis of said campaign would be brilliant to see.
The issue is he isn't mainstream star wars. I am referring to films. The only big appearance of him is in rebels so not many people would know him and would prefer resources to be spent elsewhere
That's something that I always found slightly weird, about that period of Legends, as it Thrawn and the Emperor reborn had joined up, they would have been unstoppable. As Thrawn with a core fleet of 9 imperial star destroyers, 2 victories, nearly 200 heavy dreadnaughts, endless amount of clones, combined with his own tactical genius on his own almost brought the new republic to its knees, before his death. With the added military strength of the assets hoarded and built at Byss by Emperor reborn would have made it a walkover for the empire and restore it to its former glory. So many thanks for this video and some insight into why this didn't occur..
I believe that Thrawn, Clone Palpatine, and Nataasi Daala should've formed an imperial triumvirate considering they were the most powerful and rational warlords at the time. Clone Palpatine will be reinstated as emperor, Daala will be the Grand Moff, and Thrawn would still be Grand Admiral or else the Supreme Commander of the Imperial military
Palpatine would not do that, he wanted absolute control and to take Luke as his apprentice. He was not going to share any power, especially since he knew what happened to the Empire.
@@mrjixk right? Disney even managed to fuck up this legend. At least in Rebels. The new books are still quite good. Legends Thrawn still reigns supreme tho

Darth Sidious’s ego wouldn’t have let anyone but himself destroy the republic and he stood by as his own commanders squabbled like children that is unbecoming of a Sith Lord

But as he talked with Captain Pellaeon about the Empires defeat at Endor he said that the Empires, military personnel etc, were so dependent on the Emperors Dark Side power that his death they fought like rookies. He might not immediately bow due to how successful he was and having the Emperor back running thing would negate all the hard work he have put out.
Well, remember that Thrawn had his Ysalamiri. So after the defeat of the Republic, he could have met the Emperor with Ysalamiris. Then he could have stepped him in the back with some Noghris and he would probably take over everything.

I wonder how the canon version of thrawn is now that we know that the first order doesn't seem to have any involvement with him yet he's supposedly still alive.
He could be back with the Chiss. Because they don't do preemptive strikes they are sitting there watching the First Order. They could have hundreds of starships in waiting. It would be cool to see the Chiss rec the First Order in Episode 9, but I doubt JJ even knows about the Chiss or even cares if he does.
Maybe Palpy was a little bit concerned about Thrawns understanding of the force. When Thrawn started his campaign he both aquired the help of a really strong Jedi Master and a method to contain him. Both are things Palpy may not be very happy about and he might not wnating to risk to face C'Baoth or a Grad Admiral who had the power to put the strongest force user in a cage...
Hold up there Thrawn was still part of the ascendancy "undercover" so he could enlist with the empire. he was also sending some gifted commanders to the ascendancy to help with defence from the yuuzhan vong. Please do more content about Thrawn. I recently finished the Thrawn trilogy for the first time, i just started the duo-logy, and i plan on continuing with Outbound Flight and the two canon books (whenever the second comes out this year). Side note that i'm listening to all of these and Marc Thompson does an amazing job on all of them, he doesn't do narration of Outbound Flight unfortunately.
It was actually speculated that if Palpatine had linked up with the Thrawn Campaign and added the Dark Empire's forces to Thrawn's assets that the New Republic would've been easily defeated. I could actually see Thrawn falling into line under Palpatine's Dark Empire and actually be given something of a free hand to conduct military matters as he saw fit, since Palpatine only questioned the Blueberry Admiral once and saw a crushing defeat as a result of it, thus the Emperor never questioned Thrawn's military acumen again.
I doubt Thrawn would have aligned with the Clone of Sidious and the Dark Empire. By the way, Palpatine spent 6 years after Return of the Jedi regathering his strength and waiting to strike out at the New Republic. Meanwhile, Thrawn was unaware of the Force ability known as Transfer Essence and that some Force wielded could cheat death. But had Thrawn learned of the Dark Empire and joined his master, things would be very different. I’m glad that all that is mostly Legends, but Thrawn and Palpatine’s relationship in Canon is very interesting. Dark Empire does sound like fun and all but the problem with bringing villains back from the grave is that it can cheapen a victory or sacrifice by a hero or maybe rob that hero of his victory over said villain. Thanks for the video, man. Like ya a lot EckhartsLadder.
Hey eck, quick question: what kind of editing software do you use, and is it easy for beginners? If not, do you know of any alternatives for a potential RUclipsr? Thanks, love your content.
Thrawn is basically Hannibal, the most genius and creative military leader of the ancient world that suffered of the incompetence of his country and peers. Just like thrawn, palpatine could have contacted him and they would have been unstoppable
Two things could have happened. Either Thrawn would've followed Palpatine, or he potentially could've allied himself with the New Republic. As the Dark Empire was more sinister than the initial Empire, as you said, Thrawn could've seen the Dark Empire as a threat to the plans of defense against the Vong.
In rebels, Filoni confirmed that Thrawn survived the hyperspace jump, but honestly that makes no sense. The shields and windows were knocked down. How could he survive that? He was literally a few feet from the window and facing towards the direction of the jump. At MINIMUM, the pressure would kill him. I love Thrawn, but that was just poor writing in my opinion.
Funktastik I think that an ISD would have safety features for something, similar to the on the “Invisible Hand” from ROTS when the metal panels sealed the hole where grievous escaped
He was in the same room as Ezra Bridger. You know, that kid who produces a bubble of Plot Armour around him? Not even Hyperspace- which in Legends apparently calcified somebody and then disintegrated him a few seconds later -can breach that shit.
Could you do a video where you describe how you would fight in the major battle's? Such as how you would beat the rebels at the battle of endorsed or scarif.
Uhm, but wait! In the clip you show from tie fighter, Palpatine promotes Thrawn and tells he that he will join the other 12 grand admirals, meaning that Thrawn was oneof the last Grand admirals? We also know he was appointed during the events of Empire Strikes back, and one of his first assignments in that game is to hunt down Zarin, whose betrayal occured right before the battle of Endor. During one of the final battles against Zarin, it is commented that the battle of Endor is happening simultaneously, which is why Thrawn did not partake in that battle.

Hey Eck, my main proposition for a future video is more of an idea for a new series; but before we talk about that i wanted to ask you a lore/science based question. I know there are ion cannons in the star wars universe but my limited knowledge an I have never heard of or know if its even possible to ionize a turbo laser shot. I on occasion like to design capital ships and some of my designs have a axial super heavy turbo laser. I was wondering if its grounded in the star wars universe to ionize the axial turbo laser shot either before or after it leaves the barrel. I'm having a lot of fun making these ship and your videos help me find weaknesses and balance in my ships. I really don't want to design anymore around a axial ionized turbo laser if it isn't even possible. Please let me know in the comments if you have heard of anything like that or if you believe it would be possible in the star wars universe. My idea for a new video would revolve around large battles conveyed beautifully with your majestic voice and amazing story telling abilities. The series would consist of an iconic "supercapital" ship like the eclipse or the executor with a small escort fleet battling it out to the death with a second fleet with a make up strong enough to give it a run for its money. The fleet make up and size would be completely up to you; whatever you feel stands a chance against the super's. I think this could work with your current series, star ship verses, or as somewhat of a stand alone. Super Capital ships are one of my favorite aspects of the star wars universe and a combination of your knowledge, enthusiasm, voice, and story telling capabilities would make for an amazing few videos. That said, everything I've watched that you've made so far I've loved; keep up the amazing work! P.S. I loved both episodes of the "after Endor" series and would love to see them return.
