Do not be sad about your age. I was able to play guitar with them at the time, and that is something you should be proud of as an American. Not me being able to play with them, but that you were apart of it in your own way. What other country in the world could you have had as much fun during the 80's and 90's, when it comes to Rock and Roll. None. Believe me, I know. Keep Rockin'. 👍🤘🎸😊
I agree, Ill be 60 in a few months and I remember seeing Ted when I was 16 years old, in 1980, back when you could still get front row seats for $13.75. Back the, if you were first in line, you could get the front row seats and my folks allowed me to stay overnight outside the Ticket booth at a place called Kaufmanns. Kaufmanns was a department store, but they had a ticket office on Monroeville, Pa, indise the store and we would get there at 6 pm the night before and stay all night until they opened at 10 am . When they opened the doors, my friend Tom and i would run like heel to get there first! Thats was fun! Derek St Holmes was with Ted still and a group called Axe opened for them at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena. I thought i lost my hearing that night, LOL, so loud! We were lucky to see REAL musicians back then, now, they are few and far between. Back then, every single summer there were at least 25-30 shows to choose from and I swear i drove my parents crazy spending money to see as many as I could. Triumph, Rush, Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent, Journey, Iron Maiden, Bob Seger, J. Geils band, the Who, Judas Priest, The Stones, Billy squire, Foreigner, The Eagles, Steve Miller, Allman Brothers, The Police, Genesis, Yes, Mellencamp, Neil Young, CSN, Tom Petty the list goes on and on. Each concert was its own party, we could tailgate in the parking lot and the cops were cool about it, inside the arena, people would be smoking and getting prepped for the show, not too many fights, everybody seemed to get along for the most part. We were all in the moment, no phones to look at, we all just had fun. The best part about the old Pittsburgh Civic Arena is that the roof was able to be opened, so for some shows, they would open the roof, and you could see the moon on some occasions. It was a completely different time that will never come back. I had a good friend that would go to almost every show with me, we had a blast. He past away a few years back and we used to sit around an reminisce about all the fun we used to have before, during and after the show. Its to bad things have changed so much, but I guess that's what our parents said too.

The only thing I am going to add to it is that the prices of tickets have become so outrageous, mostly due to the monopoly of Ticket Master, Live Nation, and their affiliations. The artist doesn't get most of that overcharging that they do. It was better when we waited in line overnight and bought the tickets directly. You also forgot to mention the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World KISS! 👍🤘🎸😊
Maybe the house band liked it, but most of the musical guests hated the policy. If you wanted to play on Letterman...you had to let the house band play along. It was an asinine policy and I think they stopped doing it when Letterman moved to CBS.
Can you imagine being that kid and getting picked to play with these guys!!! I heard they held auditions in NYC with a drum set that Tommy borrowed from a friend and Michael broke 3 drum head and he was like, Oh my god I am so sorry!!! But Tommy, J Ack and Ted got into a quick huddle and came out...its Ok. You're the drummer of Damn Yankees!!!
Back when Rock Was Rock:) Met Ted, backstage '79, surrounded by bodyguards taller than him, I called out: "Hey Ted!"; he parted the giant squad towards my voice and said quite succinctly: "I'm right here with ya brother". I then witnessed him climb a 30-foot ladder from behind the curtain at the top of his wall of amps, parted the curtain with spotlights glaring, and jumped onto the stage to a 130 decibel roar; and that's where my brother was securing the stage pit. He got to see the rest of the show out front, as I had to work backstage with Journey, the opening act. Catering was awesome that show, endless Maine Lobster and Heinekens :)
I fucking loved this first Damn Yankees album. Tommy rules all of hell and the devil is his slave. Ted, regardless what you think of him as a person, is a damn great guitarist.

In the late 90's Ted had a morning show on a Detroit radio station. He had a hilarious way of making a point sometimes. When he talked about how well Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades harmonized together, he called them the Everly Brothers with a boner. 😂
When Night Ranger opened for Boston cpl yrs ago..they played some damn Yankees songs..and it was awesome..not many ppl seemed to know em..but I sho did..i ended up walking out when Boston played..Night Ranger was way better and until Boston gets a singer..i just cant deal with em...the music just wont cover bad vocals...

By that time, grunge had taken over the radio and rock like that just wasn't popular anymore, so no one I knew around my age had even heard of them. Damn Yankees came out during a musical transition period, so they didn't have much of a chance before Seattle took over. No disrespect to grunge. There's a special place in my heart for that too, but there's just something amazing about those Damn Yankees! Long live Ted, Tommy, Jack, and Michael!

If you listen too the Damn Yankees now you're gonna hear some music that withstands the test of time. I myself got into the Grunge thing and had(have) all kinds of the Seattle grundge music! from studio to bootleg! I can't even listen too Pearl Jam anymore! Mother love Bone,Candle Box, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and of course? One of the Greatest albums of all time (Imo) the Andrew Wood inspired (dedication) from Chris Cornell "Tempe of the Dog"are probably the only bands out of Seattle in that era that I like now?

I “live” with a debilitating illness that confines me to my house & even my room most of the time. Has been so long now I’ve accepted it, but still have down days & constant frustration. Listening to & watching Jack…whether in Night Ranger, Damn Yankees, Shaw Blades, solo…automatically improves my mood 1000%. His energy is infectious & music makes your brain boogie even if the body can’t. Excellent musician.
The "Damn Yankees" were a great band; a blend of many talents, in my opinion. Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades put out their second CD in 2007 called "Influences"; they covered a variety of songs from the 1960's and 1970's from various artists and bands. "Shaw Blades" also did a tour in 2007 to promote their CD. Tommy and Jack put on a spectacular performance; I had the pleasure of seeing them twice in concert. They played smaller venues, so the audience really got to see and hear some great music
Not sure why this popped up on my feed, but this reminded me that the Damn Yankees were one of my favorite live concerts I have ever seen by far. There was so much talent there, a true super group!
Tommy Shaw when singing solo has a pretty good voice....When he sings harmony he always nails his notes, and is one of the best harmonizers....I think he has always been as a Guitarist/Vocalist
Ted's the only one in this group that seems to always make sure they recognize the drummer .. He's cool too , been playing for lynard skinard for years

Damn Yankees was one of the best live shows I've ever seen! They rocked on songs from Damn Yankees, Styx, Night Ranger, Amboy Dukes, and most of Ted's solo work. Nothing quite like watching Shaw and Blades jam on Great White Buffalo, and Nugent kick around Crystal Ball. They played for over 4 hours, having a blast together - With Ted unleashed, of course. Crazy! I've never seen anything like it since. All that talent on one stage, and they performed so well together. When Shaw and Blades would come forward with their acoustics, Shaw with the double neck, the women would freak - knowing a ballad was coming. A lot of songs never recorded for album up to then. Fuckin good times!!
Bands like this are rock and roll. Not a bunch of punks that sound like every other band that is popular now. The great thing about them is personality and originality!
Love this video. You can tell these guys are real rockers, because they NEEDED all 4 guitars + the bass guitar. So they had 5 fricken guitars on stage, probably all turned to 11. The funniest thing is that Mr. Paul on the keys drove them to Rock so hard that even the Rock Gods were head-banging on that one.
A thing of beauty...TIGHT performance of one of my fave DY songs...totally ROCKED Letterman's world - which his musical guests rarely do Ted's really in his element here (but then when ISN'T he? LOL); the quiver of arrows is an esp. nice touch. Looks like he also convinced Tommy to go with the shorts look -- something u rarely see rockers wearing (other than Angus Young's signature Aussie schoolboy outfit, lol)
This is what Classic Rock music is all about, a riff driven song with screamin guitar and screeching whammy bar and a guitar legend playin it. The 60s 70s and 80s bands rock and kick ass! And they still have that classic rock vibe,but the new bands that came out in the grunge era to now,never could get into it, with the exception of Jackyl,Cry of Love and Brother Cane, really great bands with that classic rock bluesy sound, does anyone agree?
This was a GREAT late 80's song (may have been very early 90's on the radio, but written in the 80's I think)...Aside from the kick-ass playing, another overlooked perfect mix was Tommy Shaw's vocals with Jack Blades..excellent...they even went on to record another album later together, no doubt in part to the excellent blending of their voices.
Bill John You're correct. I have two of them, don't know if they have done anything since the second one. The first one was all original material. The second was remakes. "Time Of The Season" is my favorite from the "Influence" CD.

Michael Cartellone was pretty much unknown before Damn Yankees. He had done some studio work on Shaw's solo albums. More recently, he's in Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Graduated high school 1985 perfect year saw it all best era for music and I spent 2 years in LA early 90's these guys were amazing so was night ranger and I have all the music too.
It was pretty sad 😞 when these guys hit the BIG Time!! Towards the tail end of hair metal! These guys really put on a great show, wish I’d seen them back in the day. 1990 was the year!! Love 💕 1990! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😎
I'm so mad at myself for not noticing the Damn Yankees when they were the new, hot thing. I was in my prime back then, & would have had a ball at their concerts! I always miss the boat when it comes to "discovering" good music. I ignore a new band because I'm too wrapped up in whatever I'm currently listening to, then years later I end up listening to them for some random reason & LOVE their music. I'm such an idiot!!

Saw Damn Yankees on a double bill with George Thorogood. Yankees opened up. After their set, I was hanging around for a while, then turned around to head for the beer tent. I literally bumped into Tommy Shaw! Didn't see him, as he's kinda short. I said " Sorry, Tom" and continued on. My brush with fame.
You gotta remember that these guys were old timers at the time so I am surprised they were so well received. I saw Ted in concert on New Years Day 1979 for the Weekend Warrior tour. My friends uncle was his agent or manager or something. I didn’t know much about him but he was running around that stage like a lunatic. I loved him. He was amazing. I ran out and bought that album.
I'll always remember seeing some mullet haired dude rocking a damn yankees 'yank this' shirt at my local mall sometime in the early-mid 90s. The dude was a timeless cliche and the mental picture still cracks me up.

"Shaw Blades" also did a tour in 2007 to promote their CD. Tommy and Jack put on a spectacular performance; I had the pleasure of seeing them twice in concert. They played smaller venues, so the audience really got to see and hear some great music

Tommy Shaw when singing solo has a pretty good voice....When he sings harmony he always nails his notes, and is one of the best harmonizers....I think he has always been as a Guitarist/Vocalist

Damn Yankees was one of the best live shows I've ever seen! They rocked on songs from Damn Yankees, Styx, Night Ranger, Amboy Dukes, and most of Ted's solo work. Nothing quite like watching Shaw and Blades jam on Great White Buffalo, and Nugent kick around Crystal Ball. They played for over 4 hours, having a blast together - With Ted unleashed, of course. Crazy! I've never seen anything like it since. All that talent on one stage, and they performed so well together. When Shaw and Blades would come forward with their acoustics, Shaw with the double neck, the women would freak - knowing a ballad was coming. A lot of songs never recorded for album up to then. Fuckin good times!!

Love this video. You can tell these guys are real rockers, because they NEEDED all 4 guitars + the bass guitar. So they had 5 fricken guitars on stage, probably all turned to 11. The funniest thing is that Mr. Paul on the keys drove them to Rock so hard that even the Rock Gods were head-banging on that one.

This is what Classic Rock music is all about, a riff driven song with screamin guitar and screeching whammy bar and a guitar legend playin it. The 60s 70s and 80s bands rock and kick ass! And they still have that classic rock vibe,but the new bands that came out in the grunge era to now,never could get into it, with the exception of Jackyl,Cry of Love and Brother Cane, really great bands with that classic rock bluesy sound, does anyone agree?

This was a GREAT late 80's song (may have been very early 90's on the radio, but written in the 80's I think)...Aside from the kick-ass playing, another overlooked perfect mix was Tommy Shaw's vocals with Jack Blades..excellent...they even went on to record another album later together, no doubt in part to the excellent blending of their voices.
Tommy and Jack have done a couple records together.
Bill John You're correct. I have two of them, don't know if they have done anything since the second one. The first one was all original material. The second was remakes.

Michael Cartellone was pretty much unknown before Damn Yankees. He had done some studio work on Shaw's solo albums. More recently, he's in Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Graduated high school 1985 perfect year saw it all best era for music and I spent 2 years in LA early 90's these guys were amazing so was night ranger and I have all the music too.

I'm so mad at myself for not noticing the Damn Yankees when they were the new, hot thing. I was in my prime back then, & would have had a ball at their concerts! I always miss the boat when it comes to "discovering" good music. I ignore a new band because I'm too wrapped up in whatever I'm currently listening to, then years later I end up listening to them for some random reason & LOVE their music. I'm such an idiot!!

Saw Damn Yankees on a double bill with George Thorogood. Yankees opened up. After their set, I was hanging around for a while, then turned around to head for the beer tent. I literally bumped into Tommy Shaw! Didn't see him, as he's kinda short. I said " Sorry, Tom" and continued on. My brush with fame.

You gotta remember that these guys were old timers at the time so I am surprised they were so well received. I saw Ted in concert on New Years Day 1979 for the Weekend Warrior tour. My friends uncle was his agent or manager or something. I didn’t know much about him but he was running around that stage like a lunatic. I loved him. He was amazing. I ran out and bought that album.
I'll always remember seeing some mullet haired dude rocking a damn yankees 'yank this' shirt at my local mall sometime in the early-mid 90s. The dude was a timeless cliche and the mental picture still cracks me up.
