  • Lenovo and Best Buy no longer sell the Duet 5i! There's a Chromebook option, but I have not tested that.

At least here in Asia, they sold higher end versions with i5 processor, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.

I had a Bluetooth connected keyboard with the ASUS Transformer Book T100 Chi in 2015. It was incredibly annoying that the thing had to constantly wake up from standby when needed. Sometimes the device's Bluetooth chip would fail on wake up, sometimes the 'wake-up' would take longer again. This actually made it a no-go for me, and I'm quite surprised that it didn't stand out as a *negative* aspect of the device after prolonged use. Hm.
And I think back to the Chi: The part was completely irreparable and went to scrap en masse after the warranty due to a loose contact of the USB connector. Lenovo offers replacement parts and instructions for the 12IAU7. Seems essential to me and I find it regrettable in view of the gluing disaster that the aspect was not brought up here.
One open question: Is there fan noise, if so, is it within an annoying range?

Thanks for this. I thought I needed to spend more on a newer Surface Pro than I needed before watching this... I am happy with my Surface Pro 6, but I am now definitively considering this Lenovo lineage or the Macbook Aire M3 as a better option (i.e: price v. battery life).

Surface had a battery in the Type Cover at one point. If I recall, it was called the Power Cover and was designed to work with Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, and I think Surface 2. I believe it would also work with Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3, but obviously there would be a size difference.

I loved my Power Cover! It made the Surface Pro 2 super thick but it added some much needed battery life! Unfortunately it didn't add wireless to the keyboard, that was a separate accessory!

I had the wireless adapter. It had a disappointing battery life, like 5 hours or so. Now it wont charge anymore, and i cant find any resource on how to open it and replace the stock battery.

The price excuses a lot and it might be nice to try Linux on. I have run Linux (Ubuntu) on my Go3 and it worked pretty well except the cameras weren't recognized and touch on Ubuntu is not as far along as it is on Windows so I went back to W11.

If you don't see the need to use Thunderbolt port, this is a great alternative to the Surface Pro 9. As long as it's a Windows tablet in the first place, I couldn't really care less about the aesthetics. After all, it uses the same 15W Alder Lake CPU as Microsoft's.

I got the higher end model i7 intel core 512 ssd 16 gb ram within the first week it randomly started shutting down unfortunately and I didnt like its battery life it gives me roughly 4 to 5 hours of on going work and i am not a heavy user i only use browsing. Lenovo did offer me to replace the device for a motherboard issue but now im already second guessing to move on to the surface because now its always going to be at the back of my mind like what if i faced same issues again will regret not taking the surface what you guys think?

This device has some great features (larger bezels on the size is better to avoid accidental touches and smaller on top and bottom is better to have more screen real estate, the wireless keyboard), but the lack of a 16GB RAM or larger storage option is a deal breaker to me. The i3 is not an issue, the 12th gen i3 is a beast, better then most i5 and even many i7 of previous generations. Also 12in feels small now that Surface pro is 13in... But the price is really good. I wonder how the speakers compare to the Surface pro and how is fan noise.
Concerning the Microsoft Wireless adapter, I have it. It's called Surface Wireless Adapter for Typing Covers, and it only works with keyboards for surface 1 to 3 (pro or non pro). It's a pity I am in Switzerland otherwise I could let you try it (if you ever come near Switzerland, or in Easter France let me know).

It is too bad they don't have a higher end model, especially because that could give the Pro 9 a better competitor. I think the size is a good medium between the Go and the Pro.
That's awesome that you have one of the wireless adapters! Will definitely let you know

just bought a macbook air M1 (base model).. im afraid my surface(s) have been shown up ! Battery, performance, trackpad/keyboard etc...... i have installed windows for arm 11 on it, would be interested (and will go thru your channel to search for it) in how you find win11 on arm (SQ3)

Haven't published my Surface SQ3 review yet, but generally Microsoft still has a ways to go.

@@innoiso ahhhh thats a pity then ! When surface pro(s) came out and their counterpart was pre Apple Silicon (ipads or Macs), the performance disparity was the other way round… but it seems both MS and Intel have been caught unawares by the M1 and simply don’t have an answer for it (Gaming laptops have their own issues, bulk and battery life and loud fans etc)…. one thing it has done though is show Windows needs a viable ARM operating system with good support for X86… they will get there, just a matter of how much market share they loose to Apple while ppl wait. With my M1 MacBook Air, i just don’t see a reason to go back to Windows for quite awhile at least, it’s just that good !

I mean it's not an Apples to Apples comparison, a 2 in 1 tablet is obviously going to have compromised thermals and performance but the whole point is kind of having to touch screen and the stylus and the

@@freddynzthese aren't the kind of products you would cross shop, one doesn't even have a touch screen. If you want a stylus enabled 2 in 1 touch screen that can operate without a keyboard entirely obviously you're going to sacrifice performance, battery and thermals. But you don't have any touch or stylus options on the Mac which is a deal breaker for basically 90% of people that are even considering a two-in-one option

      @freddynz 10 месяцев назад

@@michaelcorcoran8768 yes i agree... or at least i use to..... I never actually use the stylus on my Surface, though i do use the touch screen... the trackpad on the mac is good enough i don't miss the touch screen, and actually i doubt id use it on a laptop..... i just find the macbook air to be such a good laptop, the battery is the real gamechanger for me... as for macos vs windows, i prefer windows, but that't probably because i know it alot better, still theres some things about mac os i just don't like... so its not mac-os vs windows, its the hardware..... Im certainly keeping my surface pro, and for tablet things (reading books for instance), it's miles better, but i do find myself going for the macbook over the surface when i want to check email for instance.... if i could choose, id probably prefer windows on this device (though windows on arm has real limitations)

Not sure everyone needs OLED, especially when it has a high tendency of screen burn-in.

Good choice. The Chromebook version is still selling like hotcakes (both the Duet 5 and the Duet 3 with/8GB-128GB config). In contrast, the Windows based Duet 5i has already been discontinued by Lenovo. Shortest lifespan I've ever seen from a Lenovo product.

Make sure you watch out for the price!! You had been able to purchase for approximately $370 and now that the model is even older they have raised the current price to $500 dollars! Don't support price gauging like this
