Agreed, Debbie is amazing! Nolan came from an alien culture and was indoctrinated with their view for thousands of years, he basically spend just 1% of his life with Debbie and she managed to change him profoundly. Granted he still beat his son to a pulp before realizing that, but all throughout this episode he's not only trying to convince Mark, but himself.
It's so good that Nolan is failed in his mission that made him a disgrace to his own race and his family at the same time. Regrets for a lifetime that lasts centuries.
Nolan is such an interesting character especially his storyline moving forward. He truly loves Debbie and Mark, but he has thousands of years of thinking and tradition that he has to combat. He could have easily ended Mark, but didn't. He stalled as long as he could and tried "disciplining" Mark by beating his viewpoint into him until he realized how horrible he was for harming his son. Nolan also never once put a hand on Debbie because he knew how easy it would be to accidentally do serious harm to her.
TO give a slight peek behind the JK Simmons, This kinda *WAS* a basic education by Viltrumite standards... Nolan's time on earth affected him, but he has *thousands* of years of being a monster leading up to a very short span of enjoying his life and the people around him... He's torn between duty to Viltrum and his family, and the ending shows it really well IMO
Marks line when he said "This is my life! These are my people!" that was the line that made me love him so much more. Such great exposition in the episode.
mad respect for him fighting to the very end, he was willing to keep fighting despite how clearly outmatched he was. he defended earth even against his own father. he has the heart of a hero
Regarding the sympathy thing... all the first half of this episode wasn't Nolan fighting and trying to convince Mark... it was Nolan, having gone native, fighting and trying to convince _himself,_ trying to burn out the humanity Debbie had instilled in himself and go back to the Viltrumite soldier he was when he came to Earth... and finally failing in that final scene with the flashback and Mark's "I'd still have you, dad". As Donald thought in episode 5's end credits scene, the answer was in the blood. And now that Nolan can no longer be a Viltrumite soldier... he's also burnt all the bridges with Earth, and his family. There's no excuse for what he did, no matter how many centuries of indoctrination he went through... but he's still a tragic character.
Thousands of years of indoctrination, actually. Also, yea him beating Mark pales in comparison to the numerous genocides and planetary mass murder he's committed.
I still can’t believe Mark had it in him to call Omni-man “dad” at the end of that beatdown, and I read the comic years ago. That really is the first moment where Mark’s heart is proven to be *cue trumpets*
I love Mark so much he knew that he had absolutly no chance against his dad and he still stood against him, he knew that he had no chance of beating him yet he still faced him and wasn't afraid of doing so. He was a true hero standing up for all of humanity and even he was still going to fight even if it meant dying.
Immediately after I finished Invincible I was like "I have no idea what to do now", like I was hyperfixated on it so I googled whether the comics were over (they were) and then I bingeread the entire series in like, three days. Love Invincible and I'm glad that you enjoyed it too.
Every time I watch reactions to this episode I have to cover the thumbnail when it reaches the subway scene. Absolutely horrifying. When Debbie tells Mark she’s proud of him it breaks my heart. Mark thinks he failed, because he couldn’t defeat his father and barely survived that fight, but Debbie is so proud because he never wavered, and he did survive. Thank you for these reactions, this series has become a favorite of mine, and I can’t wait for the next season!
I love the visualisation of that flashback where Nolan is holding young Mark with a tooth gap, then the scene transitions to Mark now with his teeth missing from where his fist was. That, combined with the heartwrenching "You dad. I'd still have you." all makes for a brilliantly written ending to their conflict, as well as shining a light on the conflict within himself. It makes Nolan a very layered and fascinating character, that even with his twisted beliefs, Mark was still able to find the chink in his armour.
I am so very happy you gave this series a shot and I hope season 2 doesn't take too long to come along. Thank you for all your awesome reactions. You are the best 💜
Yep, this season finale was an emotional rollercoaster. Glad you’re seeing this series and everything that is still to come. If you need another new show to start watching. I recommend the new series Inside Job on Netflix. It’s basically an adult-themed Gravity Falls, which is saying something considering all the stuff that show got away with (it also helps that Alex Hirsch is one of the co-directors).
And to think, Nolan is actually one of the nicest Viltrumites. If you think this season is a real tear-jerker, it doesnt even come close to whats coming next. Regardless, you managed to tough it out queen while i know some peeps who couldnt...respect👏
Offers that Omni-man would say that we humans are animals or insects because he is a Viltrumite, as he said that the older they get the slower they age and they live for thousands of years and their technology are hundreds or thousands of years ahead of us. And he's right about if Mark will fight for everyone and he will still look young when everyone he knows will die in his life and he will be all alone for the rest of his life.
i literally binged your reaction to all seasons of rick and morty and solar opposites and am in the middle of invincible. this is high school all over again.
I've been excited for this reaction since your first invincible episode. So good! I feel like if Omni man wanted to change Mark's mind, maybe he shouldn't have called Mark's mom/his wife a pet. lol.
This show is extremely violent/gory, but it's done in order to see just how incredibly strong those with powers really are. If it was just a show about trying to be as gross as possible then I probably wouldn't be into it, but the way they tie in the characters and emotions makes it such a great show. Nolan is so horrifically evil at times, but then suddenly he has a memory of his child and it makes him realize what he's doing. He's lived thousands of years and 1 year out of a 17 year span was enough to make him cry. He really does love his son, but he's also been brought up thinking a specific way for thousands of years. Duty vs. family. I think this show handles emotional issues so well -- even at the end when the new 'Guardians' stick up for Rex to show that they're a team. I just love the growth that characters show in this. And the fact that Debbie puts on a brave face for her son and then completely breaks down because the last 20 years of her life have been a big lie, while also watching her son get beat to a pulp, ugh...I just feel so bad for her.
I really like your reaction videos. You give a great balance of observing the material and giving your opinion both during and after you wrap things up at the end. Some reactors talk too much or not enough but you give a great balance. Letting the good moments soak in and giving a genuine reaction/response to it. When it’s done very tastefully it’s nice to actually hear your opinions at the end. Great work. 👌 You are a class act. 👍
I bizarrely can understand his pet comment. To him who lives for thousands of years, you can understand that he cant truly get attached to his wife...because they are just so unequal in stature, in power, in life expectancy, experience...just like us with our pets, we love them, we cry when we lose them, but we don't hold them to the same regard as we do other humans, or in Omnis case, other viltrumites, who are like us and hold the same power, life expectancy and similar experiences
yeah, not going to spoil anything but even with everything we've seen omni man do, he isn't the worst viltrumite by a long shot. I can't wait to see how this show will traumatize us all in season 2
Loved your great reaction to the finale of Invincible Alycia!😃 Tho some parts of it where you broke and cried made me feel sad af.😢 Also loved your insights on Mark, Debbie and even Nolan. So glad you enjoyed it and I also can't wait for season 2. Thanks for your reactions to this amazing show Alycia.🙂😎🥰👍
You should try watching Amphibia, a certain character from a series you've watched featured in one of the episodes of season 2. Im not gonna spoil who it is, I'll try leave it a MYSTERY...
And to think; Omni-Man is by far the sweetest, most-caring, and just generally chill of his people 😬😬😬 Just wait until you meet some of the OTHER Viltrumites!! 😆🤣 Anyway, great reaction as always, alyciadweeb!! Can’t wait for Season 2!!
Omniman is still my fav character , without sounding like a complete sociopath his position makes a level of sense , being a god amongst primatives and that being the only life you have known it's a great plot point
Yea, but based on human morals his crimes are irredeemable. The dude is a mass murderer, and child abuser. Just because he was indoctrinated isn't an excuse either and Ik you never said that, but I'm just saying.
Invincible didn't win with physical strength or by being impervious to his blows. He won by being invincible in his spirit, and his will. In the face of brutal, excruciating pain in every department(physical, mental, emotional), Mark didn't waver in his convictions, in his beliefs. Because he is.... Invincible.
I couldn't help but read up on the comics after finishing the show. Damn, this story gets crazy. I actually had no idea that Battlebeast was several times stronger than Omniman and would've kicked his ass.
Ironically as bad as Omniman is, he is probably the nicest living viltrumite. And although his statement about Debbie being more like a pet to him is a terrible one, humans live in a blink of an eye to him. He is Thousands of years old, his time on earth is like a weekend in comparison to his life. although the statement is terrible it kind of makes sense from his point of view.
To survive this episode, Alycia's make-up is going to have to be....
INVINCIBLE
*Splashes red makeup across the screen*
MAYBELLINE!!
I'm fucking dying at this threat
LMFAO THIS THREAD IS THE BEST. I FKNG LOVE THE INTERNET!!!
Even after omni man turns mark into a blender, when mark says "You, dad. I would still have you.", that shit just breaks your heart.
Anyone with abusive parents will understand exactly what was going through his head
was it a kitchenaid or an omniblend he got turned into do you think?
Right up there with "Why don't you just put the whole world in a bottle?"
I cried. Shit was too real to not let it reach me. 💪 I cried like a man!! lol.

It’s “think, Mark!”

If you are planning to watch the second season, remember those Viltrumites in Nolans memories. Now that Nolan left his post, they are next.

I'm so happy you watched this series. Thanks for the awesome reactions, looking forward to more
There are SO many gut wrenching moments to come and i hope they do them well.
I also hope Amber and Mark agree to end things immedietly in Season 2.
We all do. Knowing how the future plays out, Amber being written as toxic as she is, the sooner she is out the better.
I've seen this episode about 40 times and it still hits the same.
The episode marks name was truly put to the test
Every time I watch reactions to this episode I have to cover the thumbnail when it reaches the subway scene. Absolutely horrifying.

Nolan may have broke Mark's body
But Mark broke Nolan's spirit
With this the show has come full circle. The season started with Nolan training Mark and ended with him Marking a train.
Holy shit. 😂

@Rick King 22 We don't know yet.. Hopefully next year.
"He's the worst person in the whole world". Yes and there is and there's a whole empire just like him.

Got to rewatch the whole Invincible series w/ you, what joy! You’re my new fav RUclips celebrity!
Damn mark's voice actor is top notch, you can hear the compassion in his voice when hes talking to his dad
Steven Yeun! He plays Glenn on the Walking Dead as well in a pretty major role.
