12 Reasons Why Clacton on Sea Is One of The Worst Places in England

  • Why Clacton on sea is one of the worst places in England? In our video that features Clacton-on-Sea as one of the towns in England, we tried to stay on the positive side. We knew for sure that the town has many more going against it than for it. We are sorry, we just have to focus on the negatives now. We have once proved that it is a poor town to live in. It goes without saying that a poor town can hardly be one of the best towns. In this video, we will give 12 reasons why Clacton-on-Sea is one of the worst places to live in England. Of course, we would also try to state the defense of those who do not want to agree with that ranking.
    1. It’s a shadow of its past
Clacton-on-Sea used to be one of the best traditional seaside towns in its country. For some 100 years, the seafront has presumably been a destination for holidaymakers. Unfortunately, the town’s reputation has plummeted in recent times. It’s now being overshadowed by the other seaside destinations. It’s no longer the seaside resort people flock to when they need a break from everyday life. The last part of the 20th century saw holidaymakers turning to cheaper and richer package holidays elsewhere and making trips abroad for their break away. This turned the town into a place without purpose. Thus, visitors no longer have reasons to visit Clacton-on-Sea as was the early case in the 1900s.
    2. The town is drab
Just try and look up this town and see what your search result will be. It’s just like an empty space on the web. This is because nothing is really happening there. It’s like a place stuck in a time wrap. You will discover that very little progress is being made in this town in many aspects. They have no leisure complexes like the ones in Basildon, Colchester, and Southend. The same housings have been there for over a century without modern touches. They don’t have retail options and this leaves the town stagnant. Not much will be seen in the town reflecting his history and culture.
    3. The Dry Seafront
Seafronts towns are naturally not a place for serious investment unless there are some serious initiatives. These are what is missing in Clacton-on-Sea. It lacks investment, unlike some seaside towns like Margate and Leigh-on-Sea that have adapted and become trendy. All you’d find in Clacton-on-Sea is the same pier and amusements of the time past. That makes it an old-fashioned town. In defense of the town, it’s being promised that the pier will soon have a new rollercoaster installed on it. They also claim that in the summer months, there’s plenty to buy in terms of food and drink.
    4. Its high street is uninviting
The high street in the town is nothing to write home about. Businesses are closing down while empty shops line both sides of the street. No new ones are opening up. Most of the few shops still operating in this town are still charity shops and pound shops. That means you’ve got no compelling reason to do shopping here as you won’t have enough to buy. No wonder Clacton-on-Sea is one of the worst places to live in England. Lovers of this town believe that the plan to build 250 new homes in the Little Clacton part of the town, off Thorpe Road, if successful will increase the population and bring in new leisure and hospitality businesses.
    5. It's Depressing
Tendring has been described as one of the most depressing places to live more than once in reliable rankings including the ones in the official sources. This is mainly due to the level of deprivation in their towns without any prospects. That’s why residents are unhappy. Those among them seeking happiness do move elsewhere. Though a recent government survey reveals that many residents of Tendring are happy with their local authority area, with many of them rating themselves 7.5 out of 10 in the happiness index, Clacton residents are especially not happy. Clacton-on-Sea is the reason the whole local authority is regarded as depressing.

This is obviously created as an info guide for overseas "students" as to where not to "settle" during their "studies". We residents of Clacton love the fact that others run us down, we get to keep how lovely a lifestyle we have on our little peninsula to ourselves. It's hard here with our micro-climate and long hours of sunshine, miles of beaches and commutability into the city of London, Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich for work. Please go to Basildon, as the narrator of this video suggested, there you will find shopping opportunities, a great nightlife, and well appointed leisure centre.

What a load of old tosh,
yes the town centre needs a bit of investment and a few more shops, but they have done a great job on the pier, and the seafront gardens are very well maintained, the beach isn’t as bad as you say. In fact quite nice.
So overall a very unbalanced view,.
Clacton has some really good friendly people with heart and community spirit brought up from the
    East End of London.

As someone who used to take regular day trips to Clacton for several years (until we switched to Felixstowe) I can't recognise it from the comments in this video. It is what it is, a nice little seaside resort, with (in my view) fairly good shopping facilities. I don't care much for places that replace their traditional buildings with modern stuff, and in my view the pier was always a lively and entertaining place.

It's political (in case you hadn't noticed). Not a bad mainstream word was ever said about Clacton before Brexit. Ever since Clacton elected UKIP's only MP and gained a reputation as being the main Brexit town, pro-EU supporters and organisations have been trying their hardest to discredit Clacton. Not just Clacton - everyone and every thing that contributed to Brexit in some way has been in the firing line, involved in some kind of contrived scandal or just treated like a pariah, from Boris Johnson to Dominic Raab to Phones4U, Wetherspoon, John Cleese, Patisserie Valerie...
Clacton is actually a really nice place. You only have to visit the town to realise that the criticism it gets is bizarre and is obviously part of some wider political manipulation. God forbid a nice English town would want to leave the EU. Portray the town as a downmarket flea-infested cesspit and you also discredit its population and decision making process.

    • @themancuniancandidate2744
      @themancuniancandidate2744 10 месяцев назад

Weeeeeell....you might have the semblance of a point if Brexit was actually good for something. Except it isn't. There isn't a single-not a fucking one-tangible, verifiable advantage to leaving the EU. There are, however, an absolute fuck ton of downsides, most of which Brexit morons were warned about before the referendum, but which were dismissed contemptuously as 'Project Fear'. So, since Brexit fuckwits got us into this godawful mess, perhaps they should be held responsible for getting us out of it, and until they do they need to be made to realise the enormity of their actions.

I visited Clacton in the early 70s for the first time with my parents. And I loved to be there - the beach , the amusements, the people. Ok I had to mention that I had relatives living there. We continued traveling to Clacton until around 1990 and it seems that a lot has changed since then. Nevertheless I love that place. BTW I'm German.

A similar video could be made in Paris or Barcelona without needing to try to hard. Alternatively, You could have easily made a video that would depict Clacton as a thriving popular Seaside resort. It would have been just as misleading. Showing early morning streets in lousy weather and using pictures of the station exterior is hardly typical of anywhere! Add to this, the photos of a bloody knife and a handcuffed man to shock the audience are simply manipulative.

I've Been To Clacton In March This Year,And I Don't See Anything Wrong With The Town Whatsoever. This Is A Total Joke. I Never See Anything Depressing With It. Learning Canteen,How Dare You Insult The Residents. There Is Plenty To Do In Clacton,There's Amusements,Great Restaurants,Cafes,And Also Good Shops Although They Are Few And Far Between. You Are Just Insulting The Residents,Also,You Are Overestimating The Bad Reputation Of The Town. Also,When I Went There,There Was Virtually No Crime Whatsoever During The Day. And The Crime,Even Though You Might Think The Crime Is Bad,But Clacton Is Not The Most Dangerous Area In Reality. I'm Sorry To Say This,That You Never Want To Go Anywhere In The UK,Not Even Any Remote Parts. Not All The UK Is Beautiful,But,There Are Lots Of Beautiful Landmarks And Gorgeous Beaches,Though. It's Not Research You Are Looking Up,I Think It's False Information. Sorry Learning Canteen,But This Video Is Absolute Sh*t,An Insult To The Residents Of The Town And It's Also An Overestimation Of The Press.

It's Certainly Not Right At All. If Learning Canteen Thinks That Everything To Do With The UK Is Complete Sh*t,Then They Can All Think Again. Not All The UK Is Sh*t,Certainly Not Clacton-On-Sea. Although,The Shops,Cafes And Restaurants Are Very Few And Far Between,There Is A Nice Beach Along With Amusements,Ice Cream/Donut Stalls,A Good Chippy Right At The Entrance Of Clacton Pier. What More Could You Want. There Is Also A Ferris Wheel,With Beautiful Views Of Clacton-On-Sea From The Air. Learning Canteen Doesn't See It,They Think It's An Absolute Dump. When I Went On Holiday To Clacton-On-Sea In March 2023,There Was Very Little Crime When I Went There. It Was A Great Experience When I Went. This Video Is So Misleading,It Should Be Taken Down With A Copyright Warning Notice On The Video. They Are Not Encouraging Clacton-On-Sea To Grow,Develop And Invest. Learning Canteen Can Just A'win Bile Yer Heid. A'win Bile Your Head,Means In Scottish Term,For Go Take A Running Jump,Or In This Case,Get Lost And Get Left Behind.

I grew up in Clacton b:1950 until 1968. During that time Clacton changed from a leading resort with a Butlin's camp (indoor pool) to a mod and rocker punk town. My dad owned a cafeteria next to the pier and earned enough in the 12 week season to live on for a year. Kids don't see the world the way adults do and summer fun was always on the menu. I would love to go back but am now entrenched in Miami and no longer want to travel.

12 reasons? I don’t think so. You repeatedly dwell on the same subject more than once as a different reason.
We all know Jaywick is run down. It’s not dissimilar to many other seaside towns which have their own run down areas, but you don’t really specify that.
You fail to mention that Clacton has two theatres, a cinema, an escape room, adventure farm, garden of remembrance, a shopping village, a golf club and a history museum!
Also the people of Clacton on Sea are quite possibly the most welcoming of people when you visit their town. Yes the pier has seen better days but they are making improvements on that which again you fail to mention.
As for crime, Clacton’s crime rates are minuscule in comparison to the town of Edmonton that I live in.
Perhaps next time it would be more appropriate to look at some positives as well. Rather than sticking a knife into the heart of the town.

Ok I’m reading the comments and let me tell you the view of a teenager who has lived there for their whole life. After years of living here it gets so boring and nothing changes. Toby Carvery is being renovated which is good for us. The pier has the roller coaster but it’s still shit. It needs to be redone because it’s so cramped and boring. I disagree at the part where he said we had no cinemas, pubs or libraries. We do. Anyways it is shit and there’s too many potholes aswell. The whole town would need to be redone it sucks and there’s dickheads everywhere. There’s road man constantly in the town everywhere and it feels unsafe to go there.

I moved from abroad to live here and have no regrets at all, I wonder where you live??? Crime is everywhere these days, Clacton is no different, the pier has been refurbished, maybe you should come back and update your video to 12 GOID REASONS TO LIVE IN CLACTON! If it's that awkward to get to, then my advice is STAY AWAY!
