Tom Jones: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

- Sir Tom Jones, a full-throated legend among legends, wasn't an obvious choice for a Tiny Desk concert. When we began the series last year, the goal was to bring in quieter, more intimate artists (Laura Gibson, Vic Chesnutt) who are often drowned out by the clinking glasses and chatter of the small clubs they play. When a publicist for Tom Jones contacted us and said the singer wanted to do a "Big Desk Concert" for us, the thought of Jones' substantial voice filling our office left us laughing - and dying to do it.

69 years old when he sang this-- 69! in a cramped room, sweating, with one guitar player -- 69yo people! Beautiful.
He's still got it in him!!
now he has 84, and still have it.
a voice that is 1 in a billion. so glad he took care of himself. we can still enjoy him. he finally stopped dyeing his hair. he looks cool again. tommy, can you hear me? you are THE man.
Amen.
Simply stellar
That HE actually offered YOU to do a "Tiny Desk Concert" goes to show how awesome this series is.
I take this special and unique moment as the most wonderful present on the occcasion of my birthday,,today the 4th of May.Thank You very much.🙏🌺
It's ridiculous that he has the least views of this series, while he's the greatest of them all.
I think this is the first one. So makes sense. Internet, RUclips traffic, tiny desk and viral stuff wasn't like it is now.
this would be a viral hit back then if you think about it
This man is the best singer in the world. God gave him this gift and I have enjoyed his singing all my life , thank you Tom Jones
Tom understands his voice and with excellent breath control he has managed to produce a very pleasing sound for 50 years, A true Pro.
Yes and
This man exudes absolute talent. And he's really very humble with it.
I can't not like and admire this man.
His voice is simply amazing .. a completely natural singer with a huge sound.. I could listen to him forever :)
Everyone that calls themselves a singer should be made to stand up and sing in this way, no back up singers, no whole band to make them sound good. I never cared for old Tom much back then, but you must give him his due, he does have a talent!!.

What a legend. Still has that twinkle in his eyes and a voice better than most people in the charts today!
Fifty years ago I bought my parents to see Tom in Framingham, Mass at a dinner club. They loved it. One of the few times they went out. Still going strong old Tom. When Mike Douglas had him on his TV show , Mike was taken aback with Tom's rough character look. But Tom belted out his tunes on 1970's TV and Mike Douglas's jaw dropped.
I wanted to watch the first video uploaded in this playlist and found this great. We love Tiny Desk Concert.
So brilliant, a voice such as his do not need big productions, this is great.
The mic is like a mile away from his face, he's so powerful
@cpolite 5374 You continue to melt my heart for over forty years. Your songs have blessed many for years. You, your songs are perfection. Thank you with much love.
Seen him live twice, killed it each time. Last time at Bluesfest a young girl next to me said "Cor ! Wish my Grandad was like that !" And then carried on dancing with the rest of us. He's still got it, a real pro, and a real class act.
This dude could sing circles around most people even if he were on life support. Out of this world.
Absolutely wonderful! As a child Tom Jones was one of the artists that influenced me most. I learned so much from his recordings and concerts. He's truly one of the best singers I've ever heard. One of my dreams is to have that privilege of singing with him. +E
Singer-songwriter / Guitarist - Edwin Vazquez
Even with a horrible cold, HE STILL BRINGS IT, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the finest vocals you are ever likely to hear, be thankful you get to hear this man sing for you, its one of your most joyous days, trust me
Sounds as great as he did when I went to see him 20 years ago.
Top geezer Tom 👍
Thanks Tom Jones for all the many many years of a great sounding voice. God Bless.
Tom has such integrity when he sings, an eclectic mix of songs and influences, and as he's become older, we've been catching up with how amazing his voice is! Love his sense of fun too
Thank you, dear Tom, and your amazing guitarist. I needed this comfort today.
Let me get on this first before I watch the 2021 performance.
I'm so glad his people contacted you to do this! It gives him an opportunity (as others have pointed out) to just sing, with the bare minimum support, and man, does he pull it off.
An icon and a wonderful video. Mr. Jones' music was all around the house as I grew up. A real vocalist. Thanks, NPR, for this treat.
Wow, real master! And this concert, this concert reveals many personal feelings and the desire to get involved in all the variations of an great old lion
yay!
but you don´t happen to know mahlatini from soweto/south africa? he is called "the lion of soweto", what a voice! it´s a pity that the studio recordings of him and the mahotella queens sound so slick - i had the honour to see this man and the mahotella queens live during the early 90s (their biggest time were the 60s/70s as far as i know) and they were really rough and good - unforgettable!
love and best wishes from germany
Holy shit. I started tearing up at "The Green Green Grass Of Home". Incredible. And Telecaster's are sweet as hell.
Fabulous ,obviously suffering with a Cold and yet still gives Everyone all He has got and what He has got is such a pleasure ,what a great Entertainer, what a Voice ,Thank You so much.Great Guitarist too, love all but love the End of The Road xxx
The mic is positioned like that cuz he’s singing from the center of his being. ❤️
I love these early tiny desk concerts. So intimate; I feel like I'm there.
This is cool!😎 To see the legendary Tom Jones up close and intimate like this is great! Wow! I saw him live at Summerfest years ago and I went specifically to see him live. He had a slick suit on and backup singers. His Voice was booming over the crowd!
I was impressed and said now that’s.a Singer! He sang all his classic hits and
the crowd reacted whenever a familiar classic hit of his started. Especially It’s Not Unusual and Whats New Pussycat?
The crowd was all ages and into every song! A Great show! I was so happy to see him live finally because my late uncle loved his music but never had the chance to see him live.
As for me, I remember watching his TV show years ago as a kid and the excitement that generated especially with the ladies. I thought this guy can really belt out a song! So I finally got to see and hear him live and I was impressed! He is one of Greats!
Sir Tom Jones! I Would Never Leave You! I Love This Song!
I Love You Sir Tom! ❤️
I have loved this man for 40 yrs. Saw him perform live 3 times. In Niagara Falls, at the end of my street. There isnot another voice in the world better than MY TOMMY!
Pure talent. A true legend.

My mom used to just gush over this man when his show would come on. At the time I thought he was just a poser, now I understand just how unsophisticated my taste in music was then and just how talented this man truly is.
Beautiful!! So amazing...anyone else cry watching this?
He still rocks in 2021.
My very first recording I owned was this mans music in the late 60's...What a gift to the music world !!!
What an amazing voice - he is aging like a fine fine wine! I like him even better now....
nearly 70 years old here and still sounding great.
lordfluxington Tom Jones is 79 here but 80 now this year.
Fantastic as always....a true artist that can stand on his own without big backing and special effects....
I’ve always underrated him and considered as boring old spice. He comes and makes the best tint desk appearance of them all. I salute you Tom and I must admit: your legendary status is well earned!
What a pure voice...Still a joy to listen to after all these years!
One of pop music's most under-rated voices. This, at age 77, is stunning!
@ 10:45 Tom was like a little kid who actually loved what he was doing. ,,,, Awesome!!!!
I hope they get more music legends on the show. Tom's got a powerhouse voice and shouldn't be missed when he's on tour.
I absolutely Love this man, I like him, was confined to a bed for a year and a half afflicted with scarlet fever when I was 9 and 10 years old, so I know what he means when he states that you don't take life for granted. If I hadn't missed the schooling I would have graduated the same year that It's Not Unusual came out. My hubby who was born the same year as Sir Tom, always followed Toms success, he loved Sir Toms music, my husband passed a few months back, but I am very sure he is listening to Praise and Blame, his kind of Soul. Sir Tom you are sexier now than ever Luv Ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn!!! This is so great to see. Even 'tho his time was before my time, I've been a big fan of his music & his big, amazing voice forever!!!
Helloxons Fan ñ
Tom crosses all generations. Thank You!
Beautiful songs Tom. The Green Green Grass of Home is a favorite. My father was a singer and Everytime he sang it I would always cry. Still do when I hear you sing it. All the songs are Brill. ❤✌
....he is such an awesome singer. I love that dude. What a classic.
This man is under-appreciated. Even by me. It was only recently that I discovered how special he IS, Still kills it.
Must be fifty years ago that I heard 'green, green grass of home'for the first time......what a voice.
Superb! Thanks Sir Tom and NPR for this wonderful moment.
First of all, he looks amazing for his age. Secondly, his voice is still so strong it’s unbelievable.
Where is the double-like-button? Outstanding!
This guy is in his 70's and sings like this!
First time I've heard "At the End of the Road", the Jerry Lee Lewis song. Tom tears it up, Brian Monroney giving up some fine rock-a-billy chops on the Tele. Love it! Been a Tom Jones fan since 'It's Not Unusual' hit the airwaves.Glen ParkerCanada
Wow wow wow!!!
Love the voice, the personality, the man.
Keep on singing, Tom!!!
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
had the pleasure to see Tom Live in London,England in the late 60's & he was magnificent & on stage nonstop for at least 1 & half hours.
Everyone of course went bonkers at his performance.
Will never forget that concert.
It's easy to forget what a great singer he is.
I settled down on my knees to to a prayer for Tom. He's fantastic. Would have been the best moment in my life to meet him.
So this was just before "Praise and Blame" - the album that turned me into a Tom Jones fan for life. His latest quartet of albums are absolutely extraordinary.
Apparently not feeling his best, but actually I believe at the end of the road was his very best. Love this man, so talented.
A musical treasure. My mom loved this guy way back.
Always brilliant Tom Jones, and funny, too. Nervous standing there: LOL! He’s just as and maybe more personable in a live concert.
Thanks Sir Tommy ! I have listened to you since I was a kid . My mom loved you.
He can still belt them out....... A 60s, 70s, Icon........
This is just amazing stuff. Tom Jones killin' it with an equally amazing guitarist. Thanks NPR for these awesome intimate glimpses into these incredibly talented artists.
What a man. He melts my soul like butter with that voice. I can't believe they don't appreciate this. I guess their mothers didn't name them Delilah, though.
What a man. What a voice, fantastic.
I have to admit that this guy is fun to listen to, a true artist for sure.
Wow. This was great to see. As always, I feel he's a cut above the rest. His enduring talent is one for the music history books~Always good. Always pleases. What a gift he is~
whats up
Class all Class Sir Tom and your guitarist is pretty special too. Awesome Sir.
It's simple and pure.. Unbelievable Tom!
Amaising!!!! See when he start to sing all his body have the tythm of song.... I love all, and his humor marvelles, 💖
I stopped what I was doing when Tom Jones started singing Green green grass of home. Just astonishing.
Bravo. Still has it Tom. Love this uncut version. Brilliant with just guitar...refreshing. NYC
I don't care who you are or how old you are you have to accept and admit that Tom Jones is a straight cool cat.
Boom 💥
Daniel McClenahan yes he is.
Si senior!
@@thomaswilson7365 yes
@@zlopseto3516 toma ya!
Great stuff. Tom Jones AND Bill Hicks on guitar!
Glorious joy is timeless. 🦋
People who saw him live in his heyday have compared the power of that voice to a steam train coming into a station. Not much appears to have changed in 40+ years.
Awesome performance in such an intimate setting-Tom gave his all, despite having a cold! The man's incredible!
Damn. Green Green Grass of Home made me cry.
Great voice and strong presence. A real big star. Nowadays "crooner" have a lot to learn from him. Complimenti Sir Jones.
I absolutely love this man, his voice is PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can tell he has a cold and not feel great, still knocks it out of the park-good on ya Tom
Wow. Just wow. Does he still perform in Vegas? Well pre-corona. If he comes anywhere near me after all this, I’m definitely going to see him. More young folks need to appreciate this type of talent. A mic and a guitar. Stand flat footed and belt!
No, he gave up Vegas about 10 years ago. He felt he’s “been there, done that.” A master who has a center.
Very Nice!!! Tom is one of the great talents of all time. It's good to hear his voice is still strong!
Браво, сильнейший исполнитель планеты, ТОМ ДЖОНС, обожаю восхищаюсь не перестаю слушать с восторгом!.
Amazing. Listen and hear a living legend.
The new cd "24 Hours" is brilliant. GO and see him LIVE while you can - he does a great show!!
i think that there r stars that never lose it`s shine even if the years pass and pass, i think tom is one of them, but with that voice he is a supernova, artist like him there r no more
Sir Tom Jones still has it! What a pleasure to listen to him. 😀
the guitar player is no slouch either. what a set of licks.
The guitarist is outstanding and not given enough credit.
What a player
Yes. Jones has always worked with excellent musicians and been generously complimentary of them. I remember his frequent praise on his late-60s tv show of his band's ace guitarist, Big Jim Sullivan, to whom Jones eventually gave a weekly solo spot. The topnotch American studio guitarist Cornell Dupree gave Jones high marks for his unpretentiousness and professionalism during recording sessions. R.I.P. Cornell and Big Jim.
Still looks great and that voice is great !
to history this is the first ever tiny desk concert.
such a well tuned and brilliantly played guitar
Just wonderful, a true master working. It is so nice to see him show other how it is done. Just him and guitar player, killing it. Thank you NPR and Tom Jones.
My stepmom loves Tom Jones!
