It was a day late in 1970. My older brother had moved back into our house and brought with him his stereo and LP's. At 13, I was into most of the pop/rock hits of the day, like Paul Revere and the Raiders, the Troggs, the Turtles, Tommy James and the Shondells. Among his LP's I discovered Deep Purple In Rock, and I remembered hearing Deep Purple do River Deep, Mountain High and Kentucky Woman, so I thought this would be more of the same. I put on the album and the headphones, cranked up the volume, and was obliterated by Speed King, sans the intro played in this video. People use the phrase "mind = blown" indiscriminately, but not me. After my heart skipped a few beats, my eyes bugged out, and I gasped for air, I was transformed forever. Then, of course, I still had to get through Bloodsucker and Child In Time -- side one of In Rock is the best side of an album in history. Even 50 years later, Speed King is still my favourite song, and always will be. I have listened to it far more than any other song.
And don't forget - nothing without Ian Gillan....and cutie Blackmore...all those Brits back then 😋 stealing music from Black Americans and popping it up for white kids LOL. Brilliant though!

What a talented group of musicians they were: a bunch of talented guys, no formal musical background, just pure talent and urge to play. All in their early twenties in this video, playing like they played together all their lives. So lucky I grew up in this generation ...
What I really love about these old performances is the rawness of the sound typical of those times; it's like feeling an antique dealer surrounded by ancient, unique and absolutely valuable artifacts.
Although the video is from a live performance of Speed King, the sound is the studio version. And that crazy guitar intro which starts the song was edited out of the US release, for some unfathomable reason
I'm almost 64 and I'm still listening to Rock of all types and I still Ride fast motorcycles. I have never been grown up and no reason to change a habit of a lifetime. Lol.
I love these old videos - the audience I think really is confused and doesn't know how to respond. What they were actually witnessing were five of the most talented musicians to ever come together. Pure genius.

The intro is now legendary - I heard it the first time at the young Peoples' House - I was thirteen years old It was a Revolution to me ... and it stays one 45 years later !!! Awsome !
Many many years ago my mate said try this...... So we did.... Went to the "Brick and tile" and played this endlessly on the jukebox all night while drinking copious amounts of beer and heading for the greatest hangover ever.... Happy days.... Rip Will 🙂

@@cliftonkenny2507 That album from Stockholm 1970 was actually recorded by swedish radio and then released as a live album later. I have several recordings, different versions, even one as a bootleg. You can search for the title Scandinavian nights or one version called Live in Stockholm 1970, the later of those two is a remastered version, better sound. I can promise you, that you will like this live recording, it's recorded on the Deep Purple in Rock tour '70. They had a really great night, that night in Stockholm Sweden, they were really on fire. Awesome concert.

Loved this band Saw em 3 times and they would open with this class 5 Hurricane Lord and Blackmore both trading self indulging solos , i used to laugh ( i was always front row center in the day) They struggled to get back to basics of song , Loved them

Каждая нота клавиш и гитары в их композициях вроде немного не то, но вроде и ложится, что лучше не придумаешь, такие спорные смещения гармонии заставляют слушать их вновь и вновь, особенно на фоне виртуозных барабанов и баса и в итоге все запоминается как есть и почти всегда звучит свежо.

In Rock is my favorite Deep Purple album. Strange how they make it seem like a live performance with the intro but it ends up being the original recording. Still love the guitar-organ trade off solos. Brilliant!

Что касается Оригинала и cover-версий, то в 1973 г. эту композицию прекрасно исполнял ВИА ,,Коробейники" - Городской Дом Культуры г. Выборг. Странный вопрос. Это для тебя или меня они значат многое. А если посмотреть объективно глазами человека, воспитанного на иной музыке (даже просто классической, не говоря уже о "басковщине" или "киркоровщине"), то стиль пеплов может показаться чистой фантасмагорией. Did you know "Child in Time" was inspired by a song called "Bombay Calling" by another earlier band called "It's A Beautiful Day". Deep Purple sought permission from them to use the tune for the basis of the song.

Блин, не думал, что так нахлынет! Неужели в наше время были такие группы! Я вырос на Deep Purple и все группы сравниваю с ними. Ничего подобного больше не было.В одно время и в одном месте собрались самые талантливые музыканты!

Дипы, конечно, уникальные, но "мотором", чуть ли не главным, был Блэкмор, не умоляю всех остальных участников, но сольная карьера у них не заладилась, а Rainbow выстрелил! Да еще как, Дио это просто афигенный талант! поэтому для меня Rainbow приемник и продолжение Deep Purple, чтобы не говорили маловеры ...

In Rock is my favorite Deep Purple album. Strange how they make it seem like a live performance with the intro but it ends up being the original recording. Still love the guitar-organ trade off solos. Brilliant!

Слушая этот шедевр, невольно погружаешся в те далекие времена 70-х, когда был молод и полон сил, а также мечтаний! Сложные, тяжелые и душевные композиции Rock - Band ,,Deep Purple" аранжированны и исполнены на высшем уровне! Что касается Оригинала и cover-версий, то в 1973 г. эту композицию прекрасно исполнял ВИА ,,Коробейники" - Городской Дом Культуры г. Выборг. Всем ценителям творчества ,,D.P." моё почтение и долгих лет! Спасибо!

Странный вопрос. Это для тебя или меня они значат многое. А если посмотреть объективно глазами человека, воспитанного на иной музыке (даже просто классической, не говоря уже о "басковщине" или "киркоровщине"), то стиль пеплов может показаться чистой фантасмагорией. Это раз. Второе многие ставят дизлайк не показанному в ролике, а автору, выложившему видео. За "воровство", например и т.д.

I was 11 when In Rock was released. Fifty years later still listening to it. In 1970 I wouldn’t have been listening to music released in 1920, though !

@@hubertallusson1896 Yes they were, the first and second albums. I'm sure Deep Purple took inspiration from them. Did you know "Child in Time" was inspired by a song called "Bombay Calling" by another earlier band called "It's A Beautiful Day". Deep Purple sought permission from them to use the tune for the basis of the song.
