Mmmhh thats debatable. Although their first albums were def hard rock. Into the 80's their music was more and more heavy. Listen to "stormbringer" , "perfect strangers" , "under the gun" compare it to other bands of the time that were considered metal. Judas priest " you got another thing coming" i.e. and you'll realize what I mean. Def has metal repertoire. They just didi'nt stick to that style so to speak.

Nah. Comeback song, comeback album. Good for first time ever getting to see them in concert circa 1984 after migrating to Melbourne from Tassie. Their best was Machine Head and 24 Carat Purple compilation, and of course Burn 🔥. What in turn got me into Whitesnake, BoC and Yes.
Soon as I hear that dark, enigmatic organ riff at the beginning, I'm a sixteen year old kid again. This and the title track both still give me chills 40 years later

I grew up listening to Deep Purple. This song and Perfect Strangers are two of my favorite songs. Jon Lord was a master on the keyboard. My Dad says one of the best concerts he ever seen was at The Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. It was in 1985 during the Perfect Strangers Tour. The entire stage was smoked out and the lazer light show was amazing. Richie Blackmore is seen walking in and kicks a soccer ball out into the crowd. Everyone went wild. They opened with Highway Star. I wish I would have grown up back in those days. Everyone went to concerts and they were dirt cheap. They'd hitchhike sometime from Northern Michigan all the way to Detroit or Pontiac. They didn't give a shit back in those days. They'd do anything to make it to a concert!!
I was a sophomore in HS in 85. My mom went to this same concert….she wouldn’t let me and my twin sister go lol. She did get us a few concert tees tho and that was cool. Great album for sure!!
I saw this tour in Worcester, MA. Think it was late 84. I was only 15 and I had a ticket for my best friend Scott, but at the last minute he said he couldn't go, so I went by myself. My dad drove me to the arena and picked me up after. I went to probably 50 or 60 concerts in high school and my parents never gave me a hard time about it, although I'm sure they worried once I started driving myself to the shows. But nothing bad ever happened and I always had a great time while losing my hearing lol. I love you Mom and Dad and you too Scott, where ever you are!
I grew up in Toledo and I've seen about 150 concerts, most in Detroit venues. Fuck the late 70s through the 80 and including some 90s was the best time for me at concerts.
Happy 78th Birthday Richard Hugh Blackmore 14 April 1945. Dropped out of school age 15. First session recording age 16. New dad age 67. R&R Hall of Fame age 71. Pretty unique life so far. But that's our Ritchie..

Still remember when they came back and hit the US radios again in 84'. Not only could I not believe it be true but one of their best ever!!! Thank you! DP!!
i first heard this at 7 years old. the opening 60 seconds frightened me so much my mother says I ran away to my room. it feels like there is something evil, an inescapable doom approaching that is about to horrifically end your life, and there is nothing you can do. days later i had to hear it. i craved it. i tried to find it on the radio. finally my uncle played it for me in its entirety. thus began my metal worship.
WOW!! I thought about that when that Nightmare On Elm Street series started, in '84.... But the 3rd one, in '87, had that tune Dream Warriors.... great song
When this came out in the mid 80's, the current hair bands had to be put on notice that the hard and heavy rock gods were back!!! They had be shown once again who this legendary band was. I remember some of my buddies all remarking...holy cow what a way to come back!
I was a child back then and I had some older friends who spread the news of their return. And when I listened I said: Holly cow! They are better musicians than anyone else!
Definitely! Ritchie Blackmore launched Rainbow 🌈 that was played at all the big rock clubs in San Antonio ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Intrigued influence kept up with alot of Deep Purple 💜 Rock on !!!
Amazing to think back then, it seemed like an eternity since that "original" Purple line up had been together, and this album was a big thing. And .. errr .. it's now 40 years later! I really liked this album actually, was graet.
Just as a public service to the young Deep Purple fans. In the 80's the video's had little to do with the true meaning of the songs. Hell we were just glad Purple was jammin again. Deep Purple was and always will be the mark that any band wishes to make. They have and had respect of fans and other musicians alike.
One of the best songs ever.
I think it is my 2nd favorite DP album
@@axistiltproductions I like it a lot too. I am 60 years old and one of my favorites is Deep Purple.

Yes!
I can't not play aor drums to this album. Played from 83-2008. Mostly metal and Rock. This album was SOOO much fun to jam along with.
Dude, I never learned guitar and every time I listen my fingers start moving of their own volition.

Rainbow... Deep Purple...Dio...all great! Was a great generation to grow up in. ♥️

Yes. Born in 67, so 80s late 70s music was the music of my day, and to this day it is still the best era.
Is it really not clear that it is appropriate to write about Rainbow and Dio under videos with Rainbow and Dio?
Whitesnake, Coverdale...

Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And none of us could reach that high
She came on like a teaser
I had to touch and please her
Enjoy a little paradise
The lock was in my pocket
When Lucy met the rocket
She never knew the reason why
I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
Oh, it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
It's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
It's not against the law
The point of no return
And now you know the score
And now you're learning
What's knockin' at your back door
Sweet Nancy was so fancy
To get into her pants we
Had to be the aristocracy
The members that she toyed with
At her city club were something in diplomacy
So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
A master of many tongues
And now she eases gently
From her Austin to her Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young
I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
Oh, it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
It's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
No, it's not against the law
The point of no return
Now how you know the score
And now you're learning, aha
What's knockin' at your back door
Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And one of us could reach that high
I can't deny it
With that smile on my face
Oh oh, it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
Knocking at your door
You know it's no good running
Now it's knocking at your door
Ah ha, knockin' at your back door

i first heard this at 7 years old. the opening 60 seconds frightened me so much my mother says I ran away to my room. it feels like there is something evil, an inescapable doom approaching that is about to horrifically end your life, and there is nothing you can do. days later i had to hear it. i craved it. i tried to find it on the radio. finally my uncle played it for me in its entirety. thus began my metal worship.
WOW!! I thought about that when that Nightmare On Elm Street series started, in '84.... But the 3rd one, in '87, had that tune Dream Warriors.... great song
That is such a great story Tallica!
It was published 40 years today... But it seems fresh as it was then...
Нету им равных и не будет....Deep Purple (mark 2)
One of the best guitar riff ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely!
Ritchie Blackmore launched Rainbow 🌈 that was played at all the big rock clubs in San Antonio ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Intrigued influence kept up with alot of Deep Purple 💜
Rock on !!!
@@noimpostura yeah. buddy! ✌️
Ian Gillan was prodigal, no doubt! Blackmore was an overated tool; you would think a guy with his mediocre talent would be more humble.
I so agree with you my friend
Amazing to think back then, it seemed like an eternity since that "original" Purple line up had been together, and this album was a big thing. And .. errr .. it's now 40 years later! I really liked this album actually, was graet.
Just as a public service to the young Deep Purple fans. In the 80's the video's had little to do with the true meaning of the songs. Hell we were just glad Purple was jammin again. Deep Purple was and always will be the mark that any band wishes to make. They have and had respect of fans and other musicians alike.
And they KICK Lady GAGAG'S ASSSSS!(and most of the new "artists" now. :) They will always be one of the greatest rock bands EVER!
***** Your brave to even put L.G. in the same sentence as Purple. I would be scared I would get struck down by the rock gods!!! LOLOL!!!!
***** DP Are Truly Gods.
I grew up listening to M 2 purple and am very disappointed that they have yet to be in the HOF!
lady gaga (gag) and deep purple don't belong in the same sentence
saw these guys in 1971 at Norfolk scope , Machine head tour--GREAT concert will never forget
I saw quite a few concerts there!
@@youtubegregg COOL
Great entrance music for a fighter!
One Of My Alltime Favourite Songs ❤
40 years ago this year - rememeber it well on release - it was MUCH better than expected... Oct 1984 ....
Scorps,Maiden,Priest all at the top of their game and here comes these dinosaurs reminding us all of the foundation on this genre is built.
Denver here, front row. Deep Purple with Judas Priest. The guy next to us. Got the drum sticks of both drummers. We caught guitar picks. DP jp
