  • SCARY COMMUTE: There are alarming new details from the MTA about doors opening on some moving subway cars.
    The MTA says it was forced to pull its entire fleet of R179 subway cars, the newest model, the over ongoing door problems.
    Both of these incidents happened on the southbound C train less than two weeks apart.
    The MTA pulling the cars out of service is resulting in slower service for customers.
    All of the cars in question are now undergoing inspection by the company who made the trains, Bombardier.
    The MTA recently blasted the company for missed deadlines, poor car design, and construction methods.

    So your telling me 1960's trains are better built than 20th century trains? Seems like we are going backwards

      Blame Bombardier.

      The older cars were built to last, like most older model things. The R62A that you may see on the 1 3 and 42nd st S were built in the 80s by Bombardier in the 80s and can still preform. MTA should hold on to them for dear life instead of dumping them into the ocean.

      @@LamontDaGrizzly The R62A and R142s also had issues. The R179s were the last straw for them, as they banned Bombardier from bidding on the R211s.
      They are expected to retire in 2025 to make room for new cars for the CBTC operation on the Lexington Avenue Line.

    I was on the 6 train in the Bronx years ago where it runs on the EL outside about 30 or 40 feet about the street and the doors opened between stations on the right side with the street directly below. It was for about maybe 10 seconds then the doors closed again. But I think in that case it was conductor error.

    So she stated that the doors opened four inches but not fully opened. When you pull the emergency door hatch on the top of doorway, the doors do not open fully they prop open and unlock from the device that hold the doors closed. You would have to manually open the doors all the way to escape, even when you pull the escape latch. The doors open 4 inches when this happens. So someone is pulling the emergency pull bar. Happens.

    • @mountainfox8455
      @mountainfox8455 4 года назад +5

      The emergency handles are not accessible to passengers on MTA subway trains, it looks like the mechanical locking mechanisms are unlocking by themselves, either they are poorly designed or not adjusted correctly, in either case, that's unacceptable.

    Why didn't they just keep those 1960s cars in operation as they clearly still work. They could have spent all that money on track repairs then buy cars at a later date. Better service with new tracks would have brought in more revenue. 15 years overdue signal replacements. =(
