  • democracynow.org - Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified against President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Thursday morning, saying with certainty that it was Kavanaugh who attempted to rape her when they were in high school in 1982. Judge Kavanaugh repeatedly denied Blasey Ford’s allegations, denouncing her testimony with barely-controlled rage and repeatedly choking up with in tears in his eyes. He singled out Democrats on the committee and accused them of staging a “circus” aimed at derailing his confirmation. We feature an excerpt from Kavanaugh’s opening statement.

    • @mahlina1220

Republicans will vote him in anyway. For a party of "Christian" values, they're doing a great job at showing just how hypocritical and low they really are. But that's what they want- a regressive nation, full of homeless people on the streets, high crime rates, people getting away with rape, kids with no education, people who get screwed over because health insurance companies want to make a profit over human life. Kavenaugh would be *delighted* and in _favor for this!_

He can’t be...he has no REAL backbone for integrity. He is a puppet of group/gang misconduct and a slave to political corruption, a “yes” man to political cover-up. He is not impartial at ALL! The Appellate Level court system does not deserve his character, and especially nor does the Supreme Court Level system.

He is not judicial material. He is to vengeful against those who oppose him for confirmation. Such vengeance has no place on the highest court of the land. He speaks only of himself, what he has experience and not of the responsibility to the country and the people the appointment holds. How can some judge with the balance justice requires and speak as he has? His speech is too bipartisan for an appointment that is for all citizens.

Anton Zuykov I think you mean hypocritical. In the scenario you created, only the accuser could be deemed hypocritical since they are the ones taking action. On my part, I would be hypocritical if someone did the same to me and I reacted the same. Neither has happened. It is a part of today's politics in America. Some respond as did Clarence Thomas and some respond as did this nominee. How I would respond has not yet been ascertained so hypocrisy cannot be determined.
By the way, I think attacking his family, especially innocent children is appalling.

He is most likely indeed innocent, but he would never allow even the thought that he might be delusional about his being as flawless as a saint. He does not know his own nature or rejects it entirely. The problem is that he showed here the limits of his rationality and wisdom and clearly failed the test: a judge, especially a lifelong judge on the Supreme Court must have extraordinary wisdom and should otherwise not be considered. If he was wise, if he was a real wise man in particular, he would voluntarily resign from the nomination instead of destroying what is left of the objectivity of the high court.

You know, I don't care if he was found 100% Innocent! This display shows that he's an emotional biased right wing hack who HATES Democrats and would use his power to block and destroy any progressive agendas at every turn.
He PROVED he is unfit, and yet he will still be confirmed, because we have a "President" who is just as unfit and who demands his human shield be elevated to the highest court in the land in peroration for the trials he will face.

Millions of Americans are listening to you Judge Kavanaugh and your true character is showing. When a judicial nominee can't and won't agree to an FBI investigation to clear your good name speaks volumes.
Words and actions do matter Judge Kavanaugh

That rage seemed more like a partisan rage than indignation. And he had so much of it he couldn't control it, really giving the impression that he is the type of guy who could cover a woman's mouth if she dared to object to his trying to rape her.

An issue that needs to be addressed regarding Mr. Brett Kavanaugh: His alcoholism. Every other word he said seemed it was, “I love beer.” The manner in which he talked back to some senators was highly inappropriate. Apparently a word he used in his calendar means that beer is put into the body through the rectum, like an enema. “He is over the top,” many people said in Westwood near UCLA as they watched him speak. I think his liver enzymes (for inflammation) and a sonogram of his liver (for cirrhosis) must be checked in order to assess his liver status and alcoholism. Are those red cheeks a sign of good health? His private doctor can order the tests copies of which can then be provided to the Senate. A lifetime of alcoholism can affect the frontal love, which is involved in executive functions. An MRI of the brain would be helpful in the latter. His behavior was not normal. I am highly qualified to make this assessment. George W. Bush only drank once but it lasted 20 years. It has always been my assertion that Bush’s frontal lobe was affected (shrunk) by his drinking. He does became a puppet to Rumsfeld, Cheney and the extreme right making him order the invasion of Iraq to kill over a million Muslims. After all, “they are not Christians,” said some Evangelicals. It is imperative that we check Mr. Kavanaugh’s liver enzymes and to rule out cirrhosis of the liver. We need to determine how much he may be drinking now? I have known a few judges through my practice of medicine that every night they got drunk affecting their judicial duties. (Mark Judge will say one of two things: “I don’ remember” or the truth. He will not deny the allegation implying that it occurred.)

    Tells of Kavanaugh...
He sucks his lips in. He reaches for his glass of water. He chuckles. He misdirects.
    Points of interest;
    1. His own evidence, his yearbook, and the character witnesses... all speak against him.
    2. His condescending attitude (as well as the condescending attitude of the Republicans on the committee) is rather in-your-face, as well as the misogynous, old boy evil cookie cutter posture is disgusting.
    3. The Republicans on the Committee are NOT planning on hearing the OTHER 5 Accusers or ANY OTHER witnesses in this case up.
    4. The plan of said Republicans is to instead vote today (the day after the hearing). A plan they had even BEFORE the hearing started.
    So many bad plays involved.
So many ways that things could have been done more smoothly, with clarity, and with animous.

Gotta laugh at all these jokers saying that because he got mad he is lying/shouldn't be a justice. What kind of response would be appropriate to being accused of being a rapist/predator? Don't let your prejudices color your reaction.
Getting enraged is an appropriate response. It may not be ideal but is by no means an unusual response. It's no different than a victim becoming overwhelmed/crying in court.

mai Well they're doing the hearing in public so doesn't appear to be a whole lot to hide. Everyone would be fine with an immediate investigation if the timing wasn't so perfect. The findings of the investigation wouldn't matter as far as the Democrats are concerned just that it took long enough to stop the nomination. Besides what are they likely to find with an investigation into a high school incident from 30+ years ago. It's a he said/she said that just happened to surface at the exact right time far as the Dems are concerned.

Worse case scenario for this guy, he permanently loses a shot at the High Court and has to remain in his present position as a federal judge making close to $200k annually, and he suffers a PR black eye that will dissipate over time as the media moves on to cover other current events. As for his obvious anger, he'll get over it. Not so much as a hint of criminal prosecution or jeopardy to his job security mentioned at this point. All in all, I humbly venture to suggest that he is miles ahead of Cosby's legal circumstance. But I'm confident he or his GOP supporters wouldn't give that alternate scenario so much as a moment's thought.
