You make an excellent point about Darius's rise, which is how he tried to make himself related to Cyrus the Great. Cyrus left such an effect on not only the Empire he created, but also on Persia itself. For 2,500 years all the way up to the last Shah of Persia, the many various rulers of Persia enforced their legitimacy by claiming to be descended from Cyrus the Great, and that they were continuing his legacy. And as we learn in this video, Darius was the first to do that. As for another detail about his rise, the good news is that the Persians had soap back then so after fondling Darius's horse, at least Oebares could wash his hands.
Cyrus getting killed by Tomyris is one of the 3 stories Herodotus has written on cyrus! Which is the most unlikely given the way he is buried and his testament is!
