In my opinion, I believe this is the most important video that every Pre-dental and Dental student needs to watch. I found myself laughing at pretty much every single section of this video because it was so applicable to what I am going through right now as a dental student (especially the amalgam part🤣). I truly commend you for compiling all of this in one video and being so transparent about it.

Thank you so much Doc! I'm a Penn grad from '87 and taught there from 2006-15. I have a private practice outside of Philly in a little town called Media, PA, near Swarthmore College. My daughter Calli is a sophmore at University of Pittsburg in a 7 year advanced/accelerated program, and your videos have been "required reading" for both of us!! I can't thank you enough for putting so much effort into the ins and outs of dental education, as well as the trials and tribulations of a young practicing dentist, especially a female in this day and age. Please keep it up- you are doing so many of us a tremendous service here. Many many thanks....Dr. Dean Sophocles

@@Joycethedentist Thanks for replying! I actually messaged you on Instagram with a question! I’m currently studying in a dental hygiene program and am pre-dental. I started school later and was wondering in your opinion would it be worth it to go to dental school as the year I’d apply I’ll be 29 or 30. Do you think that’s too late to start the career with all the debt it takes?

What I hated about my dental school, in four years if school, they did not give us one semester of Business management. At the end of the day, dentistry is a business and if you don't know how to run it, you'll be in trouble unless you just work for a corporation.

I think this is one of the reasons so many new dentists go into corporate plus the level of dental school debt they have to pay back

Eventually, the cost of return for dental school students will be too low to justify attending dental school.

I think many new grads are already facing this.

Dental school is free in my country, we're just required to pay for the materials and they don’t cost more than $1000 a year. We also get paid minimum wage in our last year of dental school. The downside is tho; if I want to work in the US, I would still need to study 2 more years to be considered a dentist there. The same thing goes for many other countries.
