Adding in the reference track and using it to adjust your instrument is genius, I had never thought to do that. This will help so much I’m excited to mix my tracks!!!
@@AbstraktMusicLab not so much the levels but the frequencies and use of reverb etc. Some tracks have pads that seem to sit so well in the mix, feeling like they are playing in their own space, easy to hear but not masking anything , hard to explain!
Leo, on step 2 you boost elements like kick and bass quite a lot. What do you do if after boosting those your peak volume exceeds say -6db? I always struggle with this. I am aiming for peak -6db so I can then master it and send off to labels but after tweaking gain it might be -3db....
Essentialy Birch, as long as any of your channels are hitting red or your pre-master is hitting red, you're good to go! If you want to get your song to -6db and it's at -2db.. just turn it down in 4db and bam. Rule is, never let you pre-master or channels hit red, and you're golden!
I love how the « crowded mix » sounds just like my everyday mix 😂
Let me know if the video helps you throughout bro!! Hope the video was useful to you though!

Great tips again Leo ! Would be good to see a video on mixing pads
Mixing pads.... interesting.. like levels? I would treat it like the pianos I'd say!

Should I just gain stage it as I like then stick a -6db utility on the master channel before mastering chain?
