Worked a charm, 6 years I've been trapped out of my laptop for and this worked. Only issue I had was I had 2 drives, one contained CMD but not sethc and the other had sethc but no cmd! I copy and pasted so both had what needed and it worked then. Thank you so much for this guide.

I tried this and it did not fail the startup repair. It never shows the popup box that lets you access the erroffps notepad file. Any advice? I used this before and it worked perfect.

Trying this trick on a HP computer. I get to the point of the startup repair running. It stops, the screen I need to see to click the privacy link is up for just a split second, then the HP recovery wizard pops up and I can't close it out to get back to the privacy link. The only option I get is to restart again. Any tips?
There's no way around the HP utilities, i took the computer to an IT guy at work and he had the same issues. He finally ran some old password hacking program and got into it.

Still works in 2024. You must select the correct drive/partition that windows is stored on. Make sure to copy and rename the cmd file just like the video says.

I was having an issue when scrolling down to View Details of Problem, when we click the last link to open Notepad? My screen doesn't show the last link to be able to open the Computer to choose the Local Drive? Could I do it under Guest and open the Notepad from there and resume the procedure? What if I keep getting a “Recovery Manager” Pop up right after the “Start Up Repair” pop up. I try to close out the Recovery Manager window & it will shut my whole computer down. Please help!

Please help was following steps but i found the setuphc file and went to rename it a window popped up and now i cant seem to find the file anymore...
I accidentally deleted the "sethc" file 😢 is there a way to find the recycle bin and recover it?
Check the last modified file if you renamed it wrong, or just take from another windows machine l and replace it
