Such good reminders! You always look so put together and chic! Back in the day, my Mother was quite the stylish lady too and used to model locally here in Chicago. Although she didn’t need to look slimmer, she often dressed in monochromatic tones, navy and camel were her favorites, right down to her shoes. My Father was actually shorter than my Mom, and used to encourage her to wear her heels when they’d have a night out on the town, he loved that she was taller than him. To that end, he would always tell me and my sisters to “stand tall and proud”, having good posture was not an option growing up! I appreciate that lesson now more than ever, because it really does help.👍🏼 One other thought, for those who don’t feel completely comfortable with “tucking”, an alternative might be to wear your blouse or sweater, dress and/or skirt in a shape that follows the natural lines of your body, not too tight or too loose, so although not all tucked in, you still have a silhouette that is flattering and helps elongate and compliment your figure?? Thank you for all the great tips...and demonstrating them for us too! 💟 You’re the best! xoxo

I watched this twice because the advice is so good! Some things I already do, but am guilty of wearing clothes that are too oversized, telling myself it is the current style. Then when I wear clothes that actually fit me, I find that I’m asked if I’ve lost weight. Your best tip was the importance of posture. You illustrated it perfectly. Slumping not only made you look heavier, you also looked a bit defeated and depressed. I’ll remember that one!

    • @FashionStyleEdit

I'm so happy to hear you found it helpful Pat, thank you for letting me know. You know me I do love the odd oversized item but I think if your having one of those days and just want to look slimmer their probably best avoided. I think women change throughout the month, both emotionally but also physically too. I feel like my weight fluctuates a lot so just having a few tips in my head really helps how I dress. Have a wonderful evening Pat x

I usually do a French tuck and create a diagonal line across my hip as even tho my hips are not wide, my highest point of the hipbone is wider than I like due due having slight scoliosis and thus being shorter waisted. Great tips and tricks, I so agree with you on only buying the size that fits, I used to work in ladies fashion, I always said the size label is just a number, very often it is only a guide, I also found that sometimes 2 items with the same size label would fit the customer differently, I’m not talking Primark fashion, I’m talking about expensive clothing, I’ve had customers who have bought items because they’ve always been “that size” and then said they were going to lose weight, why spend nearly £200 on a jacket that won’t fit, however I used to have a lady who said she didn’t worry about the size on the label, she always tried things on with her eyes closed and if it fit she would open them and look into the mirror with a smile on her face, and the purchase was made, I passed this tip on to a few customers and we used to have great fun, I myself have a long body and relatively short legs so I always wear shorter jackets to make my legs look longer, which I find slimmimg, xx

Just saying that sometimes people who have extreme weight to lose or are in health crises may have to be "extreme" and eliminate certain types of foods from their diets. People that don't have real weight issues seem to do best on balance because they don't have food addictions. They can do "everything in moderation". People who eat out of control do better by getting rid of the foods that trigger them altogether. I'm a weightloss coach and have kept 95lbs off for a couple years now, speaking from experience.😘 Exercise is important but only 15% of weight management.

@@alikat8221 well, I'm a keto coach, and I practice fasting. The science proves that these methods help control insulin, getting insulin in control improves overall health as well as an easy way to lose weight. I do healthy keto; this is low carbohydrate, 7-10 c of veggies a day, moderate protein, and moderate fat. I am a new person. I believe that for many many people who have struggled with weight it hasn't been about will power but the foods they ate affected their insulin and made them hungry constantly, which causes them to never feel satisfied and to graze on more carbs all day long. For them these foods cause a spike that goes too high. The pancreas can't put out any more and they find themselves fat and facing diabetes. But the symptoms started many many years before. They don't have control because their blood sugars are out of control.

I'm only 5'4" but I took a class years ago that has altered my life. This was a class on personality, body shape, color, etc. One of the things that has saved me money and time is buying clothes with V neck or appearance of a V because my neck is short. I always wondered why I hated turtlenecks so much. Even though I'm short, I'm to wear open flowers, never small little flowers and buds - this is because I'm a dramatic personality type. This was just one of many tips in the color part of the course. This class was a full 3 days with slides and films of celebrity types similar to you so you could see what happens when they wear the proper clothing. I would recommend a class like this for anyone because it builds confidence and saves you time and money when shopping.

Lovely video as always Jess, thank you. I have a question about tucking in tops though. I have a small waist and try to highlight it with tailored items, however I'm quite pear shaped and have a short torso, so I find that tucking emphasises my uneven proportions ie tiny upper body with massive hips (even though they're not!). So I find myself leaving tops hanging out, just to make my upper body look longer. Any thoughts and can anyone else relate?

    • @jazzyk4046
      @jazzyk4046 4 года назад +1

I can relate. I have a classic pear shape, and I mean legit pear shape. I mean it's so frustrating when people say they are pear shape but it's actually just fat all around. I'm talking about legit pear shape when even if you're skinny you will still have butt and hips.
I find this shape to be the most misunderstood and frustrating to style. I find many fashion "experts" giving advices for pear shape that only makes me look even bigger than I actually am.
With a pear shape you have to be so careful with everything. Just a little too loose or a bit tight and you look matronly. It's tough.
Yet a lot of fashion trend tries to come up with clothes that want people to look pear shaped, which really is simply terrible on pear shapes. Example, high waist skirts and pants. My waist is already high, I don't need to cut it with a high waisted to make me look like my neck is connected to my butt.
Anyway, it's been a long day. Sorry for the rant. Let me know if you find a solution 😂

This video is a very helpful summary of tricks and tips to look slimmer. Since I'm a size 20/22 I want to add that I do a half tuck on the side in stead of the front middle section. I tried this with a shirt which was a bit to large and this way it hides my tummy and my bum and still does not look like a 'potato sack' :o)

Really, really helpful video Jess. Definitely agree with your suggestions for dressing slimmer, especially wearing good underwear and the right fitting clothes. This is the bit that's tricky when shopping in different high street stores though!!! I have items in my wardrobe from a size 10 to a size 16 and they all fit roughly the same!!! 😂 I really had to think long and hard about my best feature, but I think it might be my décolleté... And my hands!!! 👏💖😍

I love this video and all your advice. I would say I follow all your tips except for two. I don’t like black on anyone, I find it it makes us all look sallow regardless of complexion. In my humble opinion, the contrast of color makes makes a person look bigger and a room smaller, so for me, monochrome is the slimming way to go. The other is posture , I really need to work on that one. Thanks for the shoulders over heel phrase, I promise that will stay with me. ❤️❤️❤️ 😉

Jess I love all your videos, you are a classy lady and I love your fashion choices. I have to say though that the bit about ankle strap heels confused me. Why? Well I have exceptionally skinny calves and ankles (thighs not thick but trained, so bigger, even when not trained bigger lol), so when you say that the ankle strap gucci heels made your legs look stumpy, I said where? I say this to say that I am working on my shins/calves in the gym to make them more shapley , and sometimes something to cover the skinnyness of my ankles makes me feel more comfy. That being said, I'll work with what I have and recently decided to wear more dresses and skirts because having skinny lower legs can actually make you paranoid too. Hope this is taken well as I know I am not the only one who can't buy knee boots etc and those lovely knee high souchy boots due to extreme skinny bottom half legs.

I like my delicate frame overall, and my legs, bust, long neck, slender wrists and ankles, small feet and hands. The only parts I don’t love are my slight double chin and my menopause-thickened waist. You are too stunningly beautiful to not get your teeth perfected. I love the way you presented the information in this video!! My oldest sister was always saying " Suck your stomach in and stand up straight." It did stick with me for life, lol. If I can't feel my stomach muscles, then I know I'm getting out of shape. I don't know what my greatest asset is but when I'm feeling insecure, I always highlight my eyes. I think small prints are more suitable for small or thin girls. When you are tall and curvy they can make you even bigger. Midsize or big prints are more in relation to the whole body for a tall or curvy girl. And I‘m totally with you wear black all over on the „fat days“ 🙈☺️

Great vid but unfortunately your comment on underwear with a smooth line is difficult for anyone who carries a tiny amount of extra weight but has big boobs. To get a supportive bra, it has to be fitting - I.e. no point buying a 38D to get a smooth line when you are actually a 34 FF . Both would fit but the big one actually wouldn’t do much for your boobs!!
