This is such a dark and melancholic album, which is understandable because it's the first album after the death of Paul Grey and Joey Jordison leaving the band. This album doesn't deserve the hate it gets, I think it's a well written album and the energy of it is gut-wrenching. RIP Paul and Joey, you are sorely missed 🙏🙏

This was the first album Slipknot put out after Paul Grey, the bassist, had died so a fair few of the songs are basically mourning his loss. This is also the album where Joey was replaced with Jay Weinberg on the drums.

Hi big Slipknot fan I’m glad you came back to review this album my favorite is probably on this album are Skeptic or Lech which give this album its true meaning of what Slipknot was facing as a group
Holy shit new video!!! Btw Molly have you heard of an artist called Lingua Ignota? I highly recommend that you dive into her discography since it's an extremely interesting take on music and there are some extremely deep, heavy, and personal messages behind each album! I would so love to see your analysis on Kristin's music!!
You have some of the most honest, well spoken responses I've seen on YT. I can't wait for you to listen to We Are Not Your Kind and The End, So Far 🔥🔥🔥
I loved this album, it's up there in the running for my favorite of theirs, and you could tell there was some serious mourning going on. Skeptic was specifically for Paul Gray while there has always been chatter that The Negative One was a response to the split between them and Joey Jordison. This is the last album before Chris Fehn departed or was fired and promptly sued them as well.
Not sure if you already know this but this album was the first to come after the death of their bassist Paul gray, so a lot of the songs on this album are written for or about him
Makes me happy to see that more people are enjoying this album. Such a shame that it's generally regarded as their worst album, it's my favorite release from them.
I love Custer, easily my favorite song on the album. It’s the only song Slipknot has written since 1999 that sounds like it could fit on the self titled album. Also, I can’t wait for you to react to We Are Not Your Kind! That album really kicks ass, my favorite since Vol. 3
For this album its my second favorite out of all of them. A tribute Paul. One thing I would like to metion is that many thought that "the Negative one" was about Joeys departure from the band. But its really not, even Corey said that the song had nothing to do with Joey. To this day we maggots still have no idea what really happened behind it all. Maybe because of his illness or just being really shitty band mates to him. But I honestly believe that the reason they let him go was because of his illness. They loved him so much and he was one of the main guys that created Slipknot. They played with him for so long and so hard that I don't they would let him go for any other fucked up reason. Corey though mentioned that having Joey fired was one of the hardest decistions he as ever made and he refuses to talk about it.
Reason some of the songs are lighter, somber and death related is because of the loss of Paul Gray and they dedicated the whole album to him hence the albums name.
Aw thanks! I've had SO much fun diving into their music. Sad that I've only got one album left to hear, but then we get some new music next month which I'm very excited for!
If you're ever interested in listening to some industrial metal, check out some of Rammsteins albums. Their latest album is pretty different compared to the rest of their albums, but it's very interesting, and I think you'd like it.
I suggest before you do the next album We are Not Your Kind, listen to the song "All Out Life." It's not on the album, it was a single that came out about 10 months before that album, and serves kind of as a preface to that album. I know you don't usually do individual songs, but maybe you can react to it in the same reaction video to that album
Thank you!! It really blows my mind that so many people are enjoying the videos. And that's funny you were just listening to this album too. Great timing!
Relative to prog, nu metal and overall interesting heavy music, I'd suggest the band Candiria. A hardcore band from New York that mixes nu metal, hardcore punk, rap and jazz fusion together.
This is definitely the knot album with which I'm least familiar, and while after this listen I maintain it's the one I enjoy the least, there are certainly some bright spots on the record. Firstly the whole thing is a really great tribute to Paul, especially songs like XIX and Skeptic. Talking of, not only is XIX probably their strongest opening track alongside .execute., it's one of my favourite songs on the album. I love how it dips out into the start of Sarcastrophe, which is also a cool song and has some great vocal lines (live long and die for me). I think some of the songs get quite samey, there seems to be an over-reliance on I think Jim playing octaves being the only thing they do to change up a song (happens in tracks 3-5 and it wears thin fast). Although I think we generally agree as a species that Devil in I is a banger. Corey is great across the board, Lech is made great by how much he commits to the camp. Nomadic and Custer have great momentum and If Rain is What you Want is a great closer. To me it's a solid album and a great tribute to Paul, and nothing more.
@@willhargreaveshf ha it really is! All of the albums seem to have bonus tracks and/or re-releases and Spotify always organizes them differently for each album.
I remember when first listening to this thought had a more punishing sound compared to the last record but like the last two records something I haven't listened to really since it's release. I love that you enjoyed this album as much as you did. It's also the first without Joey Jordison who was let go from the band near the end of 2013. And unfortunately passed away in 2021, RIP. In their places are Alessandro Venturella on Bass and Jay Weinberg on Drums, who are very worthy successors if you ask me. I also must comment that I love how sharp the percussion sounds on this album. Lastly, with their new album The End, So Far coming out on September 30th, I think you should give a listen to it when it drops, but before that listen to the previous one, We Are Not Your Kind (I think it'll surprise you). Loving your reactions!
Oh yeah, I'll absolutely be doing a reaction to their new album! I'm so pumped to hear it. And i've got a We Are Not Your Kind video coming real soon too...
The change in percussion sound is because this is the first album recorded with Jay Weinberg as their drummer. Joey Jordison at this point had been overrun with his neurological disease and had lost the ability to use his legs so they had to replace him. This is why the drums sound very different. The other 2 percussionists didn't change until 2020 when Chris fenn was kicked due to legal disputes over money. Clown is the other main percussionist, he plays big bingo style drums and beer kegs.
Hi Molly! It's awesome seeing your reactions to some of my personal favorite music! By the way, do happen to plan on listening and reacting to Limp Bizkit's discography by any chance?
This album came out at the perfect time for me, listened to it too many times, some great solos and fun riffs to play along to. Certainly miss Paul and Joey on this album.
The burden and override are the bonus tracks btw, they not part of the official album whice is sucks honestly especially the burden cuz I really love this song
Great reaction! Can I suggest something as someone who has worked in marketing for 12+ years. If you create a reaction for the new album and post it immediately once it’s released, you will likely get a TON of video views and traffic to your channel, because people will be avidly searching for reaction videos and if yours is one of the first ones up it will get picked up I. The alogrithm, and there’s a higher probability they will discover your channel.

Not sure if you've had many/any recommendations for Opeth, but I'm gonna throw their 'Ghost Reveries' album into the hat for consideration. Could be right up your street given you seem to lean toward the creepy and atmospheric side of metal/music. Opeth have it in spades lol. Plus - they are masters of mood and most songs feel like classical suites going through movements and seasons - but metal :p
The lord of flies, the morning star, you had to be set free, the choices are, the negative and me...if that isn't metal, then I don't want anything to do with it.
Have you thought about checking out "Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair" by La Dispute? It's more post-hardcore/emo and I know you mostly do metal on this channel. But it's pretty damn powerful and emotionally intense.
I have some band suggestions you could react to: Linkin Park, Motionless in White, Three Days Grace, Wage War, Five Finger Death Punch, Oceano, Chelsea Grin, Bring Me The Horizon, Babymetal, My Chemical Romance. Hope these suggestions helped :D
.5: The Gray Chapter is one of the greatest Slipknot albums… Don’t understand why some people didn’t like it. As a guitar player I can appreciate the great work they did. Top 3 albums for me: 1.Slipknot 2.Iowa 3. .5: The Gray Chapter
I'm not sure if this album or All Hope Is Gone is my least favorite Slipknot album. I revisit them by FAR less than the others. They both have a few REALLY good tracks, but the rest seems like a whole lot of filler. We Are Not Your Kind is much better overall aside from a few filler tracks that kill the vibe of the album. But it has way more great songs that I love to revisit on a regular basis than the previous 2 albums.
Do you ever think think that a Marilyn Manson album would ever make it into the workings of this channels series or do you personally want to avoid his music altogether due to the allegations surrounding him. I understand if that’s the case but I truly believe his earlier work specifically Antichrist superstar and holy wood would really fit nicely into the theme of which the other albums are. The most attractive feature about his music in my opinion are just song writing and lyrics. Hope this gets seen

Oh yeah, I'll absolutely be doing a reaction to their new album! I'm so pumped to hear it. And i've got a We Are Not Your Kind video coming real soon too...
Yay this is a great album!
Next could you listen to RATMS album renegades?
I'll certainly be getting to Renegades on my channel! It won't be my next video but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing it.
@@mollyesanborn okay!
Gotta do battle of Los Angeles first
Fun fact, the main riff for the song Custer has been around since iowa
The change in percussion sound is because this is the first album recorded with Jay Weinberg as their drummer. Joey Jordison at this point had been overrun with his neurological disease and had lost the ability to use his legs so they had to replace him. This is why the drums sound very different.
The other 2 percussionists didn't change until 2020 when Chris fenn was kicked due to legal disputes over money. Clown is the other main percussionist, he plays big bingo style drums and beer kegs.
Custer, skeptic and if rain is what u want...top 3 song.
Sarcastrophie is where it's at what a tune
I listened custer live about a month ago and it was something else
Sarcastrophe, Skeptic, Lech, Custer, and If Rain is What You Want are so good. 🤘
Hi Molly! It's awesome seeing your reactions to some of my personal favorite music! By the way, do happen to plan on listening and reacting to Limp Bizkit's discography by any chance?
I've definitely got Limp Bizkit on my list, I know a lot of people want me to do some reactions to their albums!
This is their fourth best 😎
i really love this album, in my ranking of Slipknot albums this goes straight to second place!
1:15 its an old broken keyboard craig jones had
This album came out at the perfect time for me, listened to it too many times, some great solos and fun riffs to play along to. Certainly miss Paul and Joey on this album.
cant wait for wanyk reaction, personally i love it but a lot of people hate it, curious to hear what she'll about it
does your left arm not get tired after holding the mic for so long lol
Yes. Yes it does 🤣
@@mollyesanborn do you ever put the mic down while listening to a song ?
@@mollyesanborn Just think of it as a unique way to work out, wind up becoming known as the gunshow with your biceps 💪😁
My personal wishlist
Down- Nola
Laibach- Sound of Music
GWAR- Scumdogs of the Universe
It would be interesting to see now a video series with Linkin Park discography. Cheers from Mexico ✌️
For sure, I'll definitely try and get to Linkin Park soon!
The burden and override are the bonus tracks btw, they not part of the official album whice is sucks honestly especially the burden cuz I really love this song
Oh okay, I didn't know that! If Rain Is What You Want is a fantastic closing track, but I'm glad that I've heard the bonus tracks from this album too.
Hey, please react to tally hall, they only have 2 albums, but I recomend you to start with Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, It's soo good
The best album for me🔥🤝🏿❣️
STATIC X - START A WAR album next! You'd love it.
Great album.
Killpop is different, yet very fun to listen to
Least favorite album but it’s still good!
Haha, someone else just commented that it's their favorite. Goes to show how versatile of a band Slipknot is, they have something for everyone.
Yeah this album is very melodic darkly which explains my high school years of listening to this album many times lol.
24:45 the end, so far!
Definitely the negative one is my favorite out of the album
Man I don’t understand how I never new Overide was slipknot when I was playing WWE 2k19
Highly recommend Static X second album, Machine
You're my favourite , reviewer , i found 8 months ago , i really don't care about , Slipknot , just wanna. Say this , lol. If you review iron maiden , then we can talk ,. You're review is , in my all time favourite video , playlist , anyway ma'am , comment for algorithm .
Not my favorite album from Slipknot but love watching your journey through the albums, same as what you did with TALITM from Korn 😉 let's see what comes next
Listen To Pantera, Sepultura and Machine Head albums 🤘
The lord of flies, the morning star, you had to be set free, the choices are, the negative and me...if that isn't metal, then I don't want anything to do with it.
Have you thought about checking out "Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair" by La Dispute? It's more post-hardcore/emo and I know you mostly do metal on this channel. But it's pretty damn powerful and emotionally intense.
The two layer mask was my absolute favorite by Corey
I have some band suggestions you could react to: Linkin Park, Motionless in White, Three Days Grace, Wage War, Five Finger Death Punch, Oceano, Chelsea Grin, Bring Me The Horizon, Babymetal, My Chemical Romance. Hope these suggestions helped :D
.5: The Gray Chapter is one of the greatest Slipknot albums… Don’t understand why some people didn’t like it. As a guitar player I can appreciate the great work they did. Top 3 albums for me:
1.Slipknot
2.Iowa
3. .5: The Gray Chapter
Molly, please listen to the Time & Space album from Turnstile
I love all the slipknot albums, and i feel really bad for how underated .5 is. If rain if what yo want is one of my favorite slipknot songs
This album is crazy good, for me is the most complete album slipknot has, really curious about your thoughts on the last album WANYK. Also would be really interesting if u check the band Ghost maybe do a reaction video and see what u think!
