Asperger's is no longer an official medical diagnosis, why do you claim to have it?

I still use the term Asperger's as that is what I was diagnosed with when I was younger. Also, I know that people still have an understanding of what the term means. To say that I have Autism would in my opinion be a bit vague and may confuse people.

For me, autism is a spectrum of symptoms not individual identities. Some people that i've personally met (not suggesting you are) seem a bit too keen to highlight the HFA label of their diagnosis, either as an ego thing or shame of being associated with non-verbal autism. I'm just autistic myself and recognise all autistic people as autistic. There's no confusion in that acceptance for me. There's also the fact Asperger sent some of us to death during World War Two.
Anyway, I have forwarded my opinion and thanks very much for your response. I don't wish to seem disrespectful. Take care my Asperger or Aspie friend!

Whether it is an official medical diagnosis or just another label used to separate them from us, the result is still the same: another excuse for prejudice and ignorance. A rose by any other name...
