    I think the K&N filters deserve a second video. They updated the design and it looks similar to the Walmart Super Tech filter, at least the inlet holes, gasket area, and metal casing. The inside is standard K&N I'd imagine.

    I am very pleased with this video. Thank you for pulling thoriugh to making this video. I like these filters. I heard Fram has a new oil filter, Fram Titanium that is exclusively sold at Advance auto parts. Thanks for another great video.

    Another good video, thank you. Good for everyone out there doing your own maintenance! Having watched many filter videos over the last year of so, and using the products myself, I might suggest a couple of things. Keep it simple everyone- go get a PurolatorONE or a Car Quest premium filter and change your oil every 5-6k miles. With a little bit of looking around, you can find these for about $7 a piece. If you need a heavier duty/higher quality filter, get a Purolator Boss or a Fram Ultra Synthetic. Look for sales, coupons, or mail in rebates and you can get these for less than $9.

    Filters _Made In MEXICO_ are some of the BEST that I've used, *WIX* also has some really good examples.

      I've used some chinese ones that were impressive. Really comes down to what factory, rather than where it is.

  • @NoRogeR

    Surprisingly well made, I’m impressed. Though I’m torn between lots of cramped filtering media like Champion vs. media backed by wire mesh like Amsoil. Not sure of advantages and disadvantages of each

    • @humansvd3269
      @humansvd3269 2 года назад +1

      Wire holds up in case the filter media is weakened. At least that's the logic.

    FYI Federal Mogul was purchased by Tenneco in 2018 and then they spun off all their Auto brands as DRiV in 2019.

    Great video. I was using these Champion filters on my ford 5.0 and ended up having an issue with it leaking. The seal is way thicker then all the other filters for my application both in width and depth. So it requires a lot more force to make sure it seals well. But it was also blocking off a bit of the oil passage with the thicker o ring. I’ve stopped using them and moved back to the fram ultra which I have never had an issue with. I still won’t use the prone to tear motorcrafts.

    Thanks for the thorough reviews. Since this company has gone through several owners, any chance you can update with a new sample? Wonder how much the new ones have change (if any). Seems the oil filter business is very fluid....lots of changes to manufactures. Supposedly RP has changed their filter source. M1 is now being made by Purolator, etc. It is very hard to keep track of these changes and if they implement cost cutting and reduce quality of the products.

    Those "louvres" on the inner tube of a Champion filter look so tiny and narrow compared to regular full-size oil passage holes on the Amsoil filter..
    No other filter I know of has oil passage holes that tiny.
    I don't see how this can be good for oil flow.
    Any thoughts or feedback on that?

    I think some filters have the 5-hole plate in order to improve the reliability of the anti-drainback valve. As you can see here, the holes are getting very close to the sealing area of the anti-drainback valve. Any distortion in the sealing area caused by these holes will affect the anti-drainback reliability. Therefore 5 holes is better than 8. At least that is my crazy conspiracy theory. The restriction of the 5 shallow apertures is likely very little compared to the restriction of the engine oil galleys themselves and of the anti-drainback valve, not to mention the filter media.
    I think the anti-drainback valve is as important if not more so than the filter media. This is because when the car is started, any oil not retained causes a delay in oil reaching the main bearings and everything else. As we know, 80% or more of engine wear comes from cranking, so by minimizing dry cranking we eliminate a disproportionate amount of wear.
    Some cars will not enable ignition until the oil pressure comes up, so on these cars you can judge the quality of the anti-drainback valve by how fast the car starts.

    A general question about anti-drainback valves,............if the oil filter on one's car is vertically positioned does a silicon ADV matter? I mean why would oil leave an oil filter that's vertical when the car is off?

    • @opera93
      @opera93 3 года назад

      Thanks, me too. My 2015 Journey 4CYL: is vertical: OIL filter in front of engine, & always did appear gravity would not allow oil to drain UPINTO ENGINE , ETC. INTERESTINGLY, my GMC CANYOIN 4CYL : Oil Filter mounts horizontally, I just careful Prime /charge new filter , allowing soak more than half full approx,.,wipe &. Check mounting plate, THEN PROPer hand tight/torque; checking & wiping slight oil; run Engine & recheck,etc. Obviously, lot of oil drains out on removal, and new filter Charge spills out also. Efkre tightening! Always seems strange to “” me, this horizontal Mount “.... Interestingly, the NAPA GOLD line-up has a second ,longer fitting, FILTER THAT some (?) may , or COULD. use (short of Touching RADIATOR), or at least TEXC SAID THAT one fits applications Also, even being inches longer.
