- This video is chock full of concepts that come up in sessions with patients who are struggling with CPTSD and dissociative issues. IFS, EMDR therapy are just of few of the tools I draw from.
Yes, communication is so important. However, in this particular example, being in a medical environment is not a safe place, particularly for marginalized people. Women and PoC are many times not heard in a medical setting. They are often dismissed when expressing levels of pain or concerns about what is happening with their body. Communicating with the doctors and nurses is not only ineffective but leads to harm. Something to consider.
In most situations this information is so helpful and thank you for this.
Sadly, that is sometimes the case. As people age, it is also important to have an advocate if possible. That's why I first suggest bringing a support person. Regardless, understanding the underlying fear response can give us more insight into our own reactions. Thanks for your comment!
Words!! Sounds like a great plan. Communicate some of what is felt. Thanks Colleen. You are one of the helpers.
This is what actually happening when I think about to go to doctor. You have really deep understanding the problem. Thank you. I'll watch more of your videos
@mejenny80 great!! So happy it's helpful.
This. I don’t have a primary care doctor because of this. I am elderly so really NEED an “ in case.” So afraid… have an appointment this week
@jamygarcia9566 thanks for sharing! And good for you for taking care of yourself. Hope it goes well!
Asking for help can be kinda scary, but it still sounds like a good idea. :)
Definitely! 😊
Can you cover the topic of dissociative fugues. I experince them and they are quite different than D.I.D but no one ever discusses them.
Hello and thanks for your suggestion. I do not have enough experience with dissociative fugue to be of value. Sometimes people will find themselves in an unfamiliar place and kind of "come to." This may be different than what you're experiencing?
@@colleenjohnston1678 how can you have that much experince with DID and don't know about fugues? I am medically DX but thanks anyways
@369iam5 haha, right? I know about them, but don't have enough experience with that actual DX to do a video that would give any more info than what you can find with Google. Again, I appreciate you being here!
@@colleenjohnston1678 people with DID have fugues all the time fyi

Thanks for being here and I hope they're helpful!
This is 100% how you have helped me in situations like that and it does work. And I needed a reminder too😅 thank you so much.
Great, Melissa!! Thank you 😊
Would you speak on BorderlinePD and how people with it dissociate as well and switch "emotional parts".
Ive heard this before way after realizing i have parts myself, not alters, but emotional parts.
Ive heard therapists speaking on BPD also having this sometimes due to their trauma as well a bit like cptsd
Thank you for your suggestion! I have a lot to say re BPD. I'll be making a new video soon. Thanks again!
