The machine's great. I ended up going all out on mine (1080p ips display, 16gb ram, 7200rpm 1TB HDD, intel 4th gen i7 cpu, 9 cell battery new, HDMI to vga converter port and backlit keyboard). And it still surprises me what it can run. I'm able to play titanfall 2 and DMC V on it at 720p full 60fps low settings. Pretty impressive for 300$ fully upgraded. Also it's CPU is good enough I can get it to run high stress emulators (RPCS3, Xenia, newer MAME games) with really nice performance that runs circles around my own gaming desktop.
@@pepogaspar Most every T440p I've had (around 40, or so) had a 4700mq, or a 4710mq/nVidia. I had one with a 4800mq, and one with a dual core 4600m. ONLY the 4800mq/nVidia, had some thermal issues. the 4700, and 4710mq, with nVidia, are pretty darned safe.
What a great review! I'm currently looking at a T440p with the 4700MQ processor, but with a 1368x768 screen which I plan on switching with a better one. I hope it can improve my productivity as a programmer :)
The i7-4700mq is the perfect processor with this machine. The i7-4800mq is faster, but had I not used decent thermal compound to re-paste, it would be too hot. especially, with the dGPU.
Mine has a 960gb SanDisk Ultra II+ SSD, 1tb 7200rpm HDD in the optical drive bay, 16gb/RAM, 1600x900 display, nVidia GT730m, backlit keyboard, and a Quad Core, i7 4700mq Processor. It spanks the pants of MANY new computers. I play "The Long Dark with all the video toys on high with no problem. :) I paid $160 for the "bare bones" with CPU + charger. I actually have three of these.
Got my hands on a lit kb, 1080p, 4600m with gt730m, threw an SSD in it and 8 more GB of RAM for 16GB and it covers quite a wide range of gaming history for under 200$.

I have a fondness for the T440, but the T540 is now my new love. despite the passage of years, it is still a great workstation - the only downside is the power consumption, but the desktop consumes lot of power too..

In Australia we have a statutory 12 month warranty - if it is not fit for the purpose it was purchased for the seller has to 1. refund the cost,2 repair, or replace it. Any seller stated warranty conditions are cannot be enforced by the vendor. I had a washing machine that had a history of burning their owners homes down replaced with new more modern machine (they were getting a lot of bad publicity with all the homes going up in smoke!).
I found a refurbished one with i7-4600m/8gb/240 GB SSD/Nvidia 730m and a slightly bigger battery with 9 cells for about 400 euros altogether, is it a good bargain? The seller has 6 month warranty, supports refunds and it says it's grade B refurbished.
should be more then enough. i have a t420 with an i5 and i run ableton with most plugins no problem. i also have 16 gb RAM as well tho so make sure to get at least that

I wonder if this can handle Rise of the Tomb Raider and Witcher 3 with i7-4700mq, 16gb DDR3 1600mhz ram, and the 1600x900 screen with the GT 730m GPU. So far I was playing on the i5-4300m and gaming in things like Fortnite was fine but some newer titles it was not awesome at all.
update! I upgraded my T440p to the 4700mq and 1080p screen. Tomb Raider (2013) actually plays really well. Witcher 3 played at around 15-20 FPS at 720p.
Hardware would struggle at a point, i also have one of these with the next level up i7 (4c/8t) and have a hard time keeping a steady framerate at high resolution
Yes, there is a 1920x1080 option for the T440p, and yes, you can play games on it. You'll have better luck with photo editing, and medium range gaming with it. However, few people can even SEE in 1920x1080. I recommend the 1600x900. Works well with everything.
Neither the CPU or the display in the video was high end in this computer. I have a 440p with 4810mq and a fullHD display (used to be my work computer, I bought it for myself when a got an upgrade at work). A lot faster CPU and nobody should buy a screen with 768 resolution if possible. It's a decent machine that is still quite powerful today, but a bit bulky and with truly shitty touchpad, but that can be replaced. It's possible to upgrade the CPU and replace the display.
@@CodeZealot If you don't have the one with the GT 730 in it you will want to get a better heat sync. I would also undervolt the CPU using throttlestop or something similar. I use a 4700MQ and it does get hot when under full load

@@Lingatsu If you don't mind the bulk of the P50 then that's a fantastic choice. Make sure it has the Quadro M1000M or greater GPU. That should be able to handle Scrap Mechanic at medium details. Wouldn't hurt to budget for a new battery too, just in case. Those are only $40 USD or less and very replaceable. Check out my review of the HP ZBook Studio G3. That has a Quadro M1000M in it.

@DNZ DMRL Agreed! People who see me run my T440p, ALWAYS make comments like "GEEZus! That thing blows away my new laptop!" Moore's law is pretty much dead. Even a good, Core2Duo, is quite useful! I have a T500 with a 2.53ghz T9400 CPU, Radeon Mobility 3650 graphics, 8gb/RAM, and a 256gb SSD, and a 7200rpm 320gb HDD, with Win7Pro. It's quite impressive, and will dust a lot of newer machines. Not a bad little gamer either. :)
YEP! I have Sims 2/3, and 4 running on my T440p. Sims 3, and 4 should be played with the nVidia graphics. Sims 2 runs better on the HD graphics. I also run Mass Effect 1/2, and 3 comfortably on high settings, with the HD graphics. CoD World at War, and Modern Warfare will run on high settings using the nVidia graphics.
I have this and it can't run Fortnite, Call of Duty, AMONG US, and barely runs chrome and office. It uploads 480p on RUclips and once I uploaded 1080p and the quality was 480p. I don't recommend y'all to buy this cuz it trash
Well it has enough power, but now that I think about it, this Thinkpad comes up short in the screen real estate department. For DJing it would be better to have a 15.6" 1080p display or larger. The easier it is to see what you're doing, the better off you'll be.
The GT 730M does come in 1- and 2GB flavors. T440p's typically come with 1GB, Dell laptops are more likely to have the 2GB version. I can't outright say that no T440p has 2GB but I can say good luck with finding one that does.

I've had the t440p with the i5 for a few years as a DD. Pretty great laptop. Runs New Vegas, Black Ops 2, and a few others really well.
Try upgrading to an i7-4700mq Quad Core. You'll be REALLY impressed! :) Easy to do too.

yeah it actually runs it surprisingly well, the intel i7 coupled with the rest of the available upgrades really carry this thing.

Football Manager isn't too challenging of a game to run. Low detail settings are very forgiving for non-gaming systems.
