Unfortunately I was there at the game to witness that mess of a 9th inning in person. The last few games shows this team has no guts and no heart right now. No matter how the game unfolds they will find a way to lose. Give up no runs, they find a way to lose. Score 7 runs and have a big lead in the 9th, they find a way to lose. Girardi said after the game that this team has a lot of fight. I think we all 100% disagree with him with the way this season is going.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you 100% (and I'm a Phils fan). The last couple years, we could really point to the bullpen blowing multiple leads as the primary reason they didn't make the playoffs. But this year, it's a different thing each games, it seems.
James Norwood had a 5.40 ERA going into that 9th inning against the Mets, and Joe Girardi putting him in to start the 9th inning with a six-run lead in a 1-7 game showed that Girardi did not respect the first place Mets at all, in spite of the fact that they have the best record in baseball. Norwood should never have been on the mound in that situation, and Girardi should be fired.
@@hammer3353 You don't put Norwood in a situation like that to boost his confidence. These are the Mets, the team that's in first place in your division, the team you're currently six games behind and desperately need to catch up to. You need a win to start off this four game series on a positive note and set the tone for the rest of the series. When you have them at your mercy with 1-7 lead, you put someone in there who can shut them down, not someone with a 5.40 ERA. If you wanna give Norwood some confidence, wait until it's a game against an easier opponent where you have a much more secure lead. Girardi was incompetent.

Tonight, when the Mets were down 7-0, I had a strange feeling that they would somehow find a way to win it. Them actually doing so just adds to my belief that this is their year. Same feeling I had in '86. I had it once again in '06 and it still feels somehow wrong that Beltran took a called third strike to end the NLCS against St. Louis that year. It should be a fun ride for the New York Metropolitans this year for sure. LET'S GO METS!!!
@@TheYamahog12 Same here. This team has a "special" feel to them as well. Maybe not '86 special, but last night's win shows me that this team has a similar never-say-die attitude. Nice to see that in the Mets again.
Phillies fan here. Never thought that I would see a worse complete collapse (during my lifetime) than the Gm 3 playoff loss (1977) to the Dodgers, and the WS game 6 loss to the Blue Jays (1993)…both of which also happened during the 9th inning. Just when you think we can’t go any lower…we always find clever and unique ways to lose.
I am a Mets fan that lived in Philly for a long time so there is nothing I like more than to see the Phillies broadcasters cry. The truth is though in terms of record it is only 1 loss just like if they had lost 5-3 in a regular old game. I remember in 2015 the Mets had that horrible game in late July when the Mets were up 7-5 and the umps called a rain delay with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the batter. After the rain delay, the Padres took the lead and then there was another rain delay and if the umps had called the game, the score would have reverted back to the 8th and the Mets would have won but they waited almost 3 hours to finish the last of the 9th. The Mets were also no hit (by MAX SCHERZER) right before the playoffs started that year and they still won the division and went to the World Series.
No Mets team has ever come back from a 1-7 deficit in the 9th inning. Girardi lost that game by putting a mediocre pitcher like Norwood in there instead of allowing Familia to stay for the 9th inning.
I do agree to an extent about the relief guys coming in. They come in with bases loaded tie game bottom of the 9th game 7 of the world series do or die......they are mostly lights out get out of the inning give your team a chance. or come in to with a lead to shut them down for 3 outs in the 7th or 8th or even the 9th, they do well. BUT when these guys get in a 7-1 game like this, why do they NEVER have the same mentality? They are brought in to get 3 outs. Why are they always coming in and never giving 100% as if the game was close? That is there job. If relief pitchers would change their mind set no matter the situation, this would be a different ball game. Come in with that fire and passion to mow them down in your inning of work. Dont go in with oh well i have a big lead so i'll back it off a bit. WHY?????? But with that said, the batters job is to not give up either. I can understand if the phillies booted the ball and made errors or messed up plays, but they didnt. the mets found holes and got the hits they needed. Credit to them too.
The 1964 meltdown, Joe Carter's home run, Mani Motas fly ball to Luzinski in 1978, Wiz Kids being swept by Yankees in 1950, an d this debacle last night. In 72 years of fandom by me, I ha e witnessed these heartbreaking episodes and continue to be a fan of this starcrossed baseball team

@@artistxwade Hes still one of the major contributors in the lineup. I'm a Mets fan but I think anyone upset with the Phillies is doing so prematurely. Yes the loss was tough but the Phils are doing a lot of positive things. They only lost by a run. Nola pitched magnificently. He was nigh unhittable. The Mets rallied and we're able to put timely hits together. Phils put up 7 runs on a division opponent. You can't hang your head too low off that. One thing that's tricky is that these commentators said you have a rough schedule ahead for the next few series'. I don't blame Girardi for putting in relievers who need confidence. These are the situations you put them in for so they can get those reps in. Every team can go into a funk. Standings-wise the Phils are still in it.

I for once kept thinking there was a shot, especially seeing Lindor finally get a huge hit after a 0-18 skid
In ‘86 you could never count the Mets out. Best Mets team I ever saw.
This team went on to a WS berth 😂
Growing up watching Jimmy Rollins and chase utely routinely crush my soul. I enjoyed this very much lol
As a Met's fan, I love it!
They post to be a winning team a long time ago, but let’s go Mets.
F#ck #ff and go to your own damn networks coverage you troll.
Congrats. This is your world series
@@str8delco589 If you’re crying inside, just say that. 🤡😂
@@USMC1997 it’s the beginning of may
Why didn't Girardi leave Famillia in the pitch the 9th? If anybody knows these Mets hitters, he does.
Mets were playing possum. The Phillies weren't winning it was just the Mets playing possum
You have to have a cast iron stomach to be a Philly sports fan. It's not just this team. How much losing should a city have to endure?
NYC sports is no better in the last decade or so.
Can't be enough until Some teams sell to real owners!
Ha Ha. It's funny how they give zero credit to the Mets, like they had nothing to do with it.
the'yre salty! mets 10 games over .500! they can eat shit!
This is our payback for the Phillies rallies in 2019
The 1964 meltdown, Joe Carter's home run, Mani Motas fly ball to Luzinski in 1978, Wiz Kids being swept by Yankees in 1950, an d this debacle last night. In 72 years of fandom by me, I ha e witnessed these heartbreaking episodes and continue to be a fan of this starcrossed baseball team
Joe Girardi chants fire Girardi chants coming tomorrow
Lol 😆 All I Can Say It’s Likes The 86 Mets
More non-Phillies fans here (including me) than Phillies and boy.......was it entertaining to watch. Both the game and post-reactions.
I won't waste my time watching the Phillies this year
Same here. I’m done!
It would be cruel for me to pour salt in the Phillies wounds.......*Reach for Salt Shaker*
Been a Phillies fan for 35 years. Last night seriously tested my resolve. Might not watch until Moniak and Stott get becak because at least they have heart.
As a bleed blue orange Mets fan, this was a beautiful ❤win for us. But let’s be honest here ,every franchise and fan base goes through these types of losses(without exception!!!). GOD knows we’ve had em’ You play long enough, and you will. LFGM!!!!
Let’s go Mets !
I don't necessarily blame Joe. Joe can only do so much with the line-up. It's the players that need to step it up. See what Gabe Kapler did with a better team, it's the player.
Loved it...and tonight the Phillies get to host Mr Sherzer...pray for forcasted rain!
AMAZIN'
And I’m going to the game on Saturday to watch the Phillies blow it
I’m a Mets fan, we definitely should have lost today
This is fun always.
No we shouldn’t of. 27 outs for a reason. They earned it
@@joshricci6133 yeah your right
@@joshricci6133 exactly. There was no errors in this inning like with Arenado. They just worked hard for every hit and never gave in. No free outs in the game of baseball.
It’s just hurts to watch the Phillies waste Bryce Harpers years away and especially the players we added this year. Phillies need to figure out something ASAP
No they don't. They just need to keep feeding free W's to the Boys of Summer. LFGM!
Waste his years? He's hurt and not playing the field! Could use that defense.
@@artistxwade Hes still one of the major contributors in the lineup. Even if was playing outfield the Phillies have too many holes on defense and that’s essentially why they signed these dude hoping that would bats would solve everything, which I mean the offense isn’t bad but pitching is still a huge problem especially the bullpen still so that and bad defense is just not winning baseball
@@anthonyzheng7274 The Mets will probably win the division. I’m just hoping as a Phillies fan that we can at least make the wildcard since they expanded the playoffs but that’s being hopeful. The defense and bullpen are gonna be a huge problem
@@mattbrown9535 You guys should be on your GM and Front Office's ass. But realistically most fans are on the lower end of the IQ scale so I think they will just boo Girardi and the players. Clearly your team was not built correctly when there's literally no balance. All offense, no defense. Shaky bullpen. etc.
If I were Nola I'd be really pissed!
Tom McCarthy was renting his garments over how great the Phillies were until the top of the 9th.
Looking back on this game after the Phillies clinched a playoff spot last night, I thought the season was dead.
This entire gane is rhe embodiment of how they operate in professional sports in Philadelphia. Play your best to lose the worst.
Ricky Bottalico in the middle is a former Phil’s reliever. Ben Davis on the right is a former MLB catcher and pitcher.
Can’t believe it . A suffering Phillies fan in Mexico City.
There's always a first!!! Words of wisdom
Wish my team post game people would talk this honestly
Let’s go Mets !!!
Get rid of JG! NOW!
It’s so weird seeing a post game intro that isn’t your team
Let's Go Mets!
End of the day you have to have a good bull pen. Phillies have a good hitting team. Still early in the season.
I love this!
The SNY announcers never put the team down and never puts the other team down. Making fun of “Let’s Go Mets”? Be professional!!
