As much as I love this team, I have completely lost faith in their ability to execute a World Series win between last year and this year. Watching them play this series felt exactly like watching the Astros series last year - just waiting and waiting for momentum that never comes. We have a lot of star power, but we don’t have that charm or quality that the 2008 team had. I don’t know if it’s ego or slugger mentality or inability to play under pressure of all of the above, but we’re missing that special *quality* that’s needed to get the job done. I was in Philadelphia the night they won the World Series! Against the Rays. I got a Philly cheesesteak at a walk up stand. I believe it was raining that night?
The entire lineup is obsessed with hitting home runs. The focus of every at bat is home run. You can't win consistently that way, and you certainly can't win a championship with that approach. Even Turner is obsessed with it. Hitting, pitching, and defense wins championships. Home runs win single games. The front office needs to rethink its approach. In the end, I think the team got cocky after Game 2. It was building with the NLDS win. I think the team believed they could just home run their way to the WS and win it. They got cocky.
You hit it right on the head. Just think if they had a Rod Carew and Pete Rose leading off, then when the big guns come up, you’d have runners on base. The Phillies lead off with Schwaber, he’s batting like 220. That’s insane.
100% agree. You can see it when these guys take the plate. All they're trying to do is hit it into the stands. They stand there and watch strikes go by waiting for a perfect ball to hit a home run on. I hate this team.
@@BrokeTheSealturner needs to change his batting stance and have better plate discipline same with nick that over handed and underhanded swings are so lazy you could hit 40 home runs with a more compact batting stance

This year, the Phillies completely choked away a series to an inferior team who was an underdog in every single game of the series. This is SO much worse than what happened last year.

The Phillies aren't meant to be a juggernaut. They can't win it all being one of those teams that everyone expects to win it all. They need to be a hungry 6th seed or something like that. Or a team that really grinds, like the '08 squad that nobody saw coming.
Stop saying Schwarber and Harper were “pitched around”, they came up so small, don’t let them off the hook! This team all year didn’t play small ball and had no real closer, what team doesn’t have a single player that can bunt???? Thomson and company have to go!!!
I am a greater Philadelphia resident and a life long Phillies fan. While I was really routing for them to beat the Diamondbacks, I also tried to keep things real. I really feel they are basically the same team as last year - homerun or burst. So I wasn’t surprised they could not finish off the series even when they were up by a game and the last two games were at the Bank. They were totally out baseballed by the DBacks. The Diamondbacks play the game of baseball the way it is intended to be played (it’s a proven winning formula since baseball was invented) - they can bunt, sacrifice to move runners, hit to the opposite field, steal bases, disciplined hitting and quality ABs (the Phils seem to take an undisciplined hitting approach to the plate). So, is it totally unreasonable to think we’d see a rerun of the World Series last year? There is one great thing that doesn’t change from year to year and that is the incredible support and dedication from the Phillies fans (even after a World Series where we set the strike out record and were no hit and after a series like this one). The feeling of great disappointment will sting for some time for sure. But eventually we’ll need to get back to Go Phils!!
It's like shooting against a double team and passing up wide open shots or passing check downs to a covered HB and completely ignoring a wide open receiver that has nothing but green in front of them
Same thing as last year. Live and die by the long ball. No one knows small ball. Everyone swings for the home run and just like with Houston last year we have another electrifying post season short of the goal. The hitting coach might want to teach these guys small ball and have some patience at the plate. I could have struck out most of them and my fastball is 60 mph tops. Half won’t even reach the plate and I feel pretty good against this line up
Embarrassing. Absolutely embarrassing to lose to that Diamondbacks team. I know we have to "respect our opponents" and all that by there's NO excuse to let Ketel Marte out-hit all of these big name players we have. I'm sorry, these "big name players" that we have. I'll never get over this just like I'm still not over the 11' NLDS. What a joke
I wanted the Phillies to win too. But you gotta remember, the Phillies live and die with the home run. They had a decent year but what I can’t understand is, they played great with the Braves series and the first two games with Arizona, but after that, the team appeared to me, to become a little flat. They were trying but things just didn’t go their way. Plus they were really counting on Aaron Nola to take them to the World Series in game 6 but he had gotten bounced around and I believe taken out in the 4th inning. They were really counting on him that night. I think after the game 6 loss, you could see, the momentum switched to Arizona. The Diamondbacks could taste victory and they weren’t gonna roll over to the Phillies. Their bullpen was very disappointing too. Hey, its over and done with. Life goes on.
Nah, no need to 'respect' the Serpientes. They beat you. Your respect is entirely optional at this point. Marte is a great player, and he was hot. No "excuse" needed. We've seen him do this before.
That was the Nick that we watched in Detroit back in the day. He was smart to just focus on bashing some homeruns to extend his career and bank some cash (MLB teams today will overpay for that).
I disagree with person who wrote "the Phillies are not home grown and tried to buy it". I'm a Nats guy and in 2019 out side of strasburg, rendon and soto everyone else was bought! So it's probably the norm rather than the exception. Mike Rizzo is a god! Those acquisitions he made down the stretch were nothing short of phenomenal, he was the real MVP of that season.
Braves fans are loving this sudden change of heart from the Philly "faithful." Just keep choking down massive fork fulls of that humble pie. A lot left to finish yet. 😂😂
This Philllies lineup went through so many power outages during the past two 2seasons. No one should be surprised by these last 2 games. They can stop doing the "I'm clutch" hand sign when they get a hit for next season. They're not THAT clutch, especially with men on base!!!

Maybe stop swinging for home runs every single at bat. Didn’t see the Dbacks doing that at all. They were patient and put together good at bats and won by hitting singles and stealing bases. This is what killed the Phillies last year. They are a good home run hitting team but aren’t good at getting just base hits.
We all should have seen this coming. Just never seen a team swing at so many balls. Turner has to move Schwarzenegger to third. Braves fan here. Welcome to Cancun, Phillies. Can't say I don't appreciate the extra salt for our Margs from you guys.
Hats off to The Dbacks. They were aggressive on the base pads & passed the paton. When the home run isnt there you need to get contact and get on base. "Take what the pitcher gives ya". Phillies were overly aggressive at the plate & never made any ingame adjusments.
I don't see how we get back next year. How many teams have reached the championship series 3 years in a row??? I think DD needs to really look at this roster and make some changes.
P.S I think Bryce being pitched around soo much made him cold. Think about it.. He wasn't getting pitches to hit & when it was finally there he was no longer hot.
Also, it's game 7 of the NLCS and the drip you pick is a Pat Bev 76ers jersey? How about a Mike Schmidt jersey or Dr J. A player/team that has won it all! But Pat Bev? SMH!

I hate to say it, but I think it will be heartbreak after heartbreak with this group until we one day, however many years from now, rebuild and win another World Series
The Phillies blew it! They had a great lead earlier, and then lost to a better team.
The Phillies gave this series away.

They didn't get cocky. They got beat.

The Phillies aren't meant to be a juggernaut. They can't win it all being one of those teams that everyone expects to win it all. They need to be a hungry 6th seed or something like that. Or a team that really grinds, like the '08 squad that nobody saw coming.
The fact they only have two World Series in their 140 years is pathetic in of itself.

Stop saying Schwarber and Harper were “pitched around”, they came up so small, don’t let them off the hook! This team all year didn’t play small ball and had no real closer, what team doesn’t have a single player that can bunt???? Thomson and company have to go!!!
The Phillies must have "played like hell" at another ball park because they didn't "play like hell" in this series! SHAME! smdh!😥😢😰
Rojas is great in the field. K Long (if he’s still here) has work to do like he did with Marsh to make him better at the plate and sky’s the limit
Good job!! Diamondbacks!! Way to go in eliminating Philadelphia! You guys deserve it!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
4-1
Forgot to mention the DBacks changed up their lineup, which we did not.
Exactly...that is what happens. You have a couple of big games with lots of home runs which makes you look invincible, then go cold and lose...
Swing at balls and look at strikes is a recipe for disaster!
It's like shooting against a double team and passing up wide open shots or passing check downs to a covered HB and completely ignoring a wide open receiver that has nothing but green in front of them
Rs I'm not a baseball guy but I'm like damn what are you doing?
This is great!
😂😂😂😂
Craig Kimbrel will go down as my least favorite baseball player of all time. I am no longer watching another Phillies game until Topper is gone.
Half won’t even reach the plate and I feel pretty good against this line up
The Postmortem

Maybe stop swinging for home runs every single at bat. Didn’t see the Dbacks doing that at all. They were patient and put together good at bats and won by hitting singles and stealing bases.
