  • The bellringers at Whitchurch Canonicorum in West Dorset put up Christmas lights around the top of the bell tower of the historic church of St Candida. The lights can be seen across the Marshwood Vale, from Marshwood itself and from Hardown Hill, and getting them to go around the outer edge of the tower is an enjoyable job - if far from straightforward. This video starts with a timelapse of the lights lit up at night, with the moon coming out from behind the tower, then shows how it all was done - with much good humour along the way. "Shades of Dad's Army" indeed, as is suggested to laughter ten seconds in. The bellringers then go up the tower and emerge on top to sort out an extraordinary tangle of lights and cable and string. Captain of the Bells Mark Symonds explains what's going on. The video ends with another shot of the lights around the edge of the tower shining bright and multi-coloured one December night.
