I dont think adding a dual land or tutor to a bad deck makes it bracket 4, theyll have to adjust that logic.
It's cumulative. You add up each card level in your deck. And then you have a power level.

If playing to win you should play to win. If playing with friends you should play to play.
Seems like a whole heap of bargain hunters swooped in to get some of these at less than half their original price. Casual players don't care about bans apparently!

I play with the same 4-5 people in our playgroup and we personally chose to ban the crypt but kept the lotus since we all have proxies of it. In the end, it all comes down to the table you're at if it isn't competitive. We still have our real dockside extortionists and won't sell.
It's all about money. It's business and that what most forget. This is not a family game company. Wotc could have set them up to take the fall or not, didn't really matter they just needed a reason to take control.
I believe Wotc saw the foundation of the bigger older collectors shake and pull back. They have to much riding on the FF and Marvel release to let 3 cards lose the interest of the bigger spenders.
People forget 80% of your business comes from 20% of your clients. When wizards saw them pull back they had to act.
I'm not an investor I just like to collect things and I have the ability to do so without any ill effect. I'm fortunate and grateful for this.
What's the point of us spending all this money to collect rare and powerful cards to not be able to play them.
Those 3 cards will be unbanned and the people that were happy about them getting banned will see why real capitalism looks like. Wotc was just handed the keys to the kingdom.
I do play high power magic and have a group of friends that enjoy this level too.
I carry casual deck for random games too. I am honest about the power I play at with new people. 8-9-10

Unless I'm mistaken, it sounds like there might not be a "ban list" they would never have to with this tier system, people complain about the one ring? Slap it in t4 and let them fight about it and continue to sell lotr. Might explain why the banned cards haven't went "to zero", I might not be the only one thinking this might happen

having a deck pool rating system like you upload your deck to a simulator and it automatically ranks it based on the cards and synergies within the deck would be kinda cool, almost how an elo ranking 1- 1000 would work and there would be catagories of 1-249, 250-499 so on on and so forth. You may not even need to use it in your playgroup because you play for fun but it would be just a cool element to see where your deck stands against your friends.
Unban at least jeweled lotus and print in next set to help bring down price, or even unban them all and put them all in next commander set to help bring down these prices

Jeweled lotus is almost certainly not gonna stay banned, it's too limited to actually make use in ANY other standard format. Dockside and nadu probably stay banned (Dockside maybe not if they plan a reprint for it next year)
Mana crypt is the interesting one tho. They can either unban it, or keep it banned and add it to the reserve list to keep its value fairly high.
Either way most casual commander games wouldn't care about the banlist regardless, and people panic selling en masse tanking the prices by upwards of 50% were..too brash. Now, they're desperately trying to buy the cards back for hopefully cheaper than they panic sold them for.

I’m not a gambling man, but there’s no way the RC doesn’t know the financial impact of banning Jeweled Lotus. Sadly, they were most likely working hand in hand with WOTC.

A sol ring is a tier 1 because it's used in every deck but is affordable...Jeweled lotus is tier 4, because it could be used in every deck, but is too expensive.
Rather than do something about the price of the card, let's make a bracket system that makes it seem like these cards are expensive because of their power rather than being expensive, because we under printed them...
So many people jumped on at the bottom because it reached casual play value and it also took time for the news to disseminate through ...
I was tempted to pick up another JL even though I had literally just bought one before the ban, it was never staying banned, this was obvious and if it did - it was essentially a reserve list.
WOTC and the Rules Committee were in conversation for agessss, all the way. Now WOTC will use them as a scapegoat and never talk to them again.

I'm fine banning Dockside and Nadu and keep the other fast mana if you allow Mana Vault, Opal, Sol Ring, etc.

How? It's pretty good to me. More powerful cards get higher numbers. The more you put in your deck, the higher the power level. Like I can have a power 360 deck and probably be fine playing in a 300-400 level pod.
Are jeweled lotus, dockside and mana crypt going to still be reprinted and chase cards? If not this was planned

WotC In control of anything Legit is bad news for the format Commander will probably lose a lot of players Since WotC is Profit Based and there actions prove it they are a Big Company and A bunch of Toxic sub Humans and Finance bros acting like awful people and threatening peoples Lives over LUXURY Cardboard Rectangles They shouldn't Unban a thing You don't reward Disgusting Behavior if they do ill be selling my collection and moving on. Side Note A lot of players Use Ban lists as a Baseline even In fun Groups and Circles I've been in plenty and LGS use ban lists so regardless Rule 0 Is rarely "used"
Hmm very strange. I'd say 80% speculators or even inside info that they are considering reversing the bans. Other 20% buying the dip for no cards barred kitchen table commander or collectors. They should do what they are currently doing for 60 card formats; "Standard" Commander that uses the least determined amount of sets, "Modern" Commander that uses most but not the oldest sets, and "Vintage" Commander where all sets are legal.
Everyone is pissed because of the push of product with these reprints in them, knowing full well that they were being eyed for a ban. That’s straight up predatory behavior. If an individual did something similar to you, you’d most likely would not interact with that person anymore. And that would be understandable and normal for most people.
As far as making several tier lists for types of commander play, what a stupid idea. It’s hard enough finding people to play with, now you wanna have a tier list where an ancient tomb will take a jank deck to level 4? Oh yea, my bird tribal deck is op now that it has an ancient tomb and I need to rule zero that so the thassias oracle player doesn’t have a fit.
You know what makes things work better than before? Not making things more complicated that’s for sure. My advice, if you play for fun with friends forget the rules. Have fun. Talk with your group. I had a conversation with my group and we agreed that the recently banned cards haven’t ever presented play as not fun. No one was turning out a tergrid turn one with crypt, no one was infinitely blinking dockside. We decided that when playing if you want to play something banned just ask. If things get out of control we can have a conversation like adults.
I dont think official bracketing is gonna help, at all. Its gonna cause massive confusion for anyone thats paying attention to the official rules and regs of the format. And if they start basing card bannings but adding asterisks based on the bracketing? My brain hurts just thinking about it.
"My *insert commander here* deck is so and so bracket without these mana accelerators, but with them its way higher." 😂 rule 0 discussions are always important but theyre gonna be entire fullblown debates when those get implemented 😅
And this also begs the question, will precons be prelabeled for a certain bracket, or will they vary in power?
And people who panic sold their lotus and crypts cuz they saw the price tanking are crying inside atm cuz one or both are definitely getting unbanned. Jeweled lotus definitely gets unbanned. Mana crypt is..debatable tho. If it stays banned i wouldnt be surprised if they move it to the reserve list to keep the values relatively high
I was just happy to snag copies of cards I never could afford when the price dipped. I got a Jeweled Lotus for $26 and a Mana Crypt for $77. For those prices I'm just glad to have real copies. I don't care if they get unbanned or not.
I had been thinking of going back to playing commander again now. The shops around here you must play blue. Or have a deck that would win in 3 or less turns. Even in casual wasnt that much fun. A jeweled lotus was i. Just about every deck.
Now that wizards is in control. I am going to have to wait and see. Cause i dont trust them to do whats best for commander.
And yeah everyone went nuts when there turn 1 decks got slowed up.
For all of you complaining about WOTC taking over commander rules, they are in charge of modern and standard. Everything will be fine.
The rc said they were in talks with wotc about getting players into the right pods power wise, this bracket system was coming regardless of wizards taking over. Commander will be fine, everyone loves freaking out.
Theyre not going to unban these cards....but i hope yall get ready for Nadu, winged extortionist, Jewled Crypt, and Mana Lotus

Bracketing cards is just ridiculous 😅. From my view it's going to caise mpre chaos in the overall community.
And yeah i had the cards at that time and a couple of expensive decks. So that wasnt the issue. To me its just not fun. I am from when games lasted ages.

It has got to suck if you are the guy that bought jeweled lotus last month sold it last week then re bought it this week. Then in a month find out it stays banned.

I anticipated this. I'm actually glad it's happening to be frank. The negative outlook towards higher lvl play in Commander by the RC was always something I took issue with. I hope WOTC unbans A LOT of the cards already banned for a less restrictive competitive format. I also think it would be prudent to have a well developed and restrictive list made for "casual fun play" as well.

One thing to think of is that, wizards should not change the banning at this point. By doing so, it would show that threats of violence and such from the community can make them do what they want. While I do not agree with the bannings, you can’t give in to the threats.

Threats came from a few loud people. Most of the people against the bans weren't going to that level.
Seems magic is dead for a year or so until they get their 💩 together.
Most people who play commander are pretty casual and likely don't look or care about the banlist. This hasn't really affected much at any of the lgs near me, but people overreacted about this whole thing in general.
Prices tanking THAT hard and death threats over cardboard basically meant wotc was inevitably gonna step in at some capacity.
Nadu will likely stay banned, and dockside will either stay banned OR they unban it and then reprint it next year. Jeweled lotus was never gonna stay banned because it's useless in every just about every other format, and..mana crypt is usually the chase card in limited sets, so I imagine it'll be unbanned too.
They said the design team is gonna take over so I assume Gavin will have a pretty big say in these decisions, and I definitely value his input.

Commander is a joke format and people who take it seriously need to wake up. It's a fake format made by a group of friends. Just because they made you believe that this format is official and has strict rules, it doesn't mean that it's true. Just make up your own rules, print your own cards and let WotC burn to the ground.
Joey this reminds me of when they banned the “racist” cards. Those went through the roof except it was hard to get them because venders didn’t want to carry fully banned cards BUT only banning from a single format.. maybe your suspicions right if so that’s fn genius.
