funny that RC was talking to wizards for over a year about banning Jeweled and Crypt and yet wotc made reprints and pushed them as chase cards in recent releases. Very cool.
Having one group decide what cards are playable or aren't is bullshit. Commander doesn't even really have tournaments. So what's the point?
Absolutely.
There are no prizes for winning. So basically who cares.
If someone has a deck that combos off turn 2, great. Don't play with them.
They win nothing except being the target every game...
The idea of commander is to play all cards, one of.
Or just know the kind of game everyone wants and adapt or switch decks. No banning needed. Rule zero all day long. RC has no real purpose if we do this.
@@benjaminharding6386 A-MEN to that, brotherr. Im gonna keep playing the cards in my playgroup.
Commander certainly already has tournaments, has events with seatings in both conventions and pt/gp locations, and has official LGS sanctioned events for years now.
@@JB-sc3fr im gonna start by saying i disagree with these bans. with that said. i work anywhere between 40-60 hrs a week with kids. so i scarcely get to go play commander nights. my last experience 3 of us were playing probably a power 6 or 7 deck. optimized mostly but not power crept. we were paired with a guy with a cedh 10 deck. he had literally every power card. he crushed us to the point where it wasnt fun at all. never went back to that. its their money so im not criticizing having the cards. but bringing shit like that to a casual commander kills the experience to those that cannot afford high end cards or have limited opportunities to play.
I have a mystery booster Mana Crypt and an extended art OG Jewel Lotus. I pulled both from packs, and I will take them to my grave even if they never get unbanned. I never got to use my Lotus, and I may never get to, but it will remain part of my collection forever.
I have decided like many just to tell the RC to F off and play no ban list cedh.
@@derrickpaulson3093Not really an option for me. I play at an LGS with variable groups and we all play by the rules and ban lists.
Might as well slab it now.
The slow decline of the more expensive variants was definitely a result of employees with privileged info selling them off
LOL
Thanks for the video BBG. Crazy times being a fan of Magic that's for sure.
Edit since you asked:
I 100% blame Wizards for this. They create, playtest, allot printings/scarcity, make millions $, create special version reprints, make them the chase cards of the sets, make more millions $$$, and all while knowing these cards are problematic for tournaments and organized games. That is completely awful business practices and I really think Wizards is hurting their future treating the customers this way.
There is a reason for this we have yet to find out ...somethin is coming they want to be the big chase cards as a replacement for these cards .. that would be my bet
WotC doesn’t make the commander ban list.
But WOTC makes the cards and can shut down the RC any time they want. They are really in control.
@@derrickpaulson3093 yea I agree with that. Also there is a good chance they “associate” with people on these committees.
Honestly, you have to know that WotC is 100% of the RC… it would be a terrible business decision if not… that’s the thing with monopolies though.. not much anyone can do about it except to stop buying the product. I know I won’t (yet) lol
@@thomassartwell572 Since when is being in control of a game you made a "monopoly" lol
You are around the 10th person including myself who have said they have pulled multiple foil full art Jewel lotuses from the Festival in a box
Ironic don't you think
If this market manipulation and it comes out, the whole secondary market is going to be in for a wild ride. The trust in this RC and WotC will be damaged and cause huge problems
Wotc can weather the storm, the rc can't. This may be the opening wotc has been hoping for to snatch the format out from under the rc now that the og creator is gone.
Market manipulation doesn’t even make sense here. Yes, some people may have had knowledge of the bans prior to it being announced but that would only let them sell their cards at market value before they drop in price. You aren’t “profiting” from this type of knowledge you just wouldnt lose money on cards you had previously purchased.
I’m not sure what manipulation is being suggested in this video or even if Joey knows what manipulation he is implying.
This event has already shattered trust to bits for many including myself.
@patmacrotch5611 they can decide to unban due to backlash and cause prices to climb after buying the dip. They also probably have a pretty good idea what cards will fill the holes, i.e. mana vault and others have already started climbing in price. I'm sure it's all a conspiracy but it still feels bad.
@derrickpaulson3093 agreed especially with some of the news coming out about how this has been talked about in the RC and Wotc for almost a year.
Pinkertons were retired--EDH council is the new villan.
I'm wondering if WOTC dumped LCI CMM WOE packs into the Mystery Booster 2 bundles knowing about the big hitters of those sets being banned.
The end of premium products and chased cards, those can't exist anymore. WOTC already had a bad rep, now their rep is simply gone to shit
lol, people still going after serialized. They will still chase the new one of one rings. You might not, but there are like 50 million magic players.
I was reading a thread on Reddit yesterday, some people were saying that card kingdom knew about the ban before hand and were refusing to buy mana crypt and jeweled lotus over the last few weeks. I got that from Reddit so take it with a grain of salt
Interesting nonetheless
@@JoeyMossBBG indubitably
I bet some people at wotc are sitting back with some popcorn, watching the community freak out 😂
Oh I guarantee it
The expensive cards have been rising in value for some time now. The reason you haven’t seen a drop in these is because there haven’t been enough sales yet to reflect the drop. Sellers are going to be much more resistant to reducing the price or dumping these cards. So it makes complete sense that these would lag behind the cheaper more abundant copies of the cards.
Not selling them yet
You crazy Dawg but thats why I love ya 😍
I wonder if the players complain enough it gets unbanned, at least the 2 rocks...
@JB-sc3fr I'm definitely complaining...with my wallet. I will not purchase anymore WOTC product until they unban them
@@JB-sc3fr i hope so
Maybe because in new I'm not understanding the need to ban jeweled lotus. Wouldn't you need to be lucky to have it in your opening hand and also have your commander in hand for it to make any impact early game? Also doesn't most people run a cheap removal for that reason? I do think the price point for some is high but isn't that the reason to be excited when you open packs? Any help understanding is appreciated
Your commander is always in your opening hand. But yes, I agree. JL is not that powerful unless you get the best starting hand. No reason what so ever to ban it from the only format it was ever legal in. Banning it from commander literally negates the card and any product it was printed in. Rules Committee had dropped the ball entirely on this decision.
Have you been starting the game with your commander shuffled into your deck?
@@Joh1234jo i haven't played commander yet
Joey mana crypt is now only legal in vintage and it’s restricted I seriously gotta ask are there any actual vintage players out their I’ve never seen vintage played in real life
You can always ignore WotC and all the idiots, make your own 60-card decks and play kitchen table Magic, like we used to do before Commander destroyed the game.
I personally think the RC needs to be put away and removed. They banned four cards, one of which we all wanted gone, Nadu. However, they just tanked value of two cards that were not staples but chase cards. Mana Crypt and Lotus. One of which is going to be okay because it is playable in other formats. The other was made specially for commander. A card that literally requires you to get it in your opening hand or draw it off the top to be "quick mana". I'm sorry to everyone that seemed to magically get it in your opening hand all the time. Because I've managed it maybe three times since I got my first Lotus when it came out. Usually it is in the latter half of a game I would see it. So I don't understand the RC banning it. I'm not likely going to ever. Partly because I don't believe they play commander like casual folks at the LGS. Partly because this is a super sus move. I mean they literally tanked the price in two days and have cost people hundreds of dollars of investments. I understand investing is a gamble, one I respect. But when you have the power to decide what is and is not playable in a format, you should not be allowed own anything to do with the game in question. Just like IDK, say a senator from Cali whose husband buys and sells stocks based on shared information from our government. Sorry for the rant. But it is super sus that these are banned and not sol ring as well. Or and mana ramping card for that matter. Only the money cards got hit.
The senator from cali example is insider trading which is highly illegal. But also its cardboard and proxy’s exist. For why sol ring maybe should be banned and other forms of ramp, I am not so sure cause while sol ring is a similar card to mana crypt as you said they only hit the expensive cards and I assume this is intentional because for the casual player it feels bad when your opponent uses a crypt or a lotus to win simply cause they spent more, but when they use sol ring it’s more of a “well they drew it I didn’t” thats how card games work.
Personally, here is my take:
Mana crypt + land is better than tap 1 land to sol ring.
I don't know about you but I'll be buying them as they bottom out in price.....
FYI to the players: the black lotus has been banned the entire time I've played magic. Since 94
🤡 comparing BL, playable in every format, to JL playable in just 1 🤡
Point being was at the time there was only one format, and who knew how long the game would last. The most expensive card turned out to be one of the most powerful thus the 300 dollar price point. The price has only went up
Don't forget , the people who made this decision are either content creators or work for hasbro. They knew what they were doing when dse mc jwl were the last big chase cards in recent big sets.
Im still gonna play Jeweled and Dockside. Screw the authority. My play group is cool with it.
THIS... As a new magic player, I really don't get it, like who cares about these guys, set the rule with the ppl at the table before the game. Like, just communicate ppl!
Just because it’s banned today doesn’t mean it will be banned tomorrow
Very true
Alot of hurt wallets and trust in WotC crashing down in these times. I feel sorry for slot of people that wanted these cards and gave alot of cash for them.
I still think with a card like lotus they should be able to hand them in for booster packs of the same value they where at before the ban.
Reason is they print a lottery card, for commander only, as a chase card and make all the special versions of it.. Hiking up the price of it (don't blame the secondary market, WotC knows how to use it for printing and selling boxes) and making people chase it with their money. Then takes it away. That's not cool at all. Not at all cool, nah. Almost criminally done.
So atleast WotC could own up and provide boosters or something as repay for sent in lotuses.
I bought a jeweled lotus for 41. Mint.
One NM foil got sold for 20$ yesterday 😂
the RC has been accused of insider trading like what happen back ween they banned paradox engine and unbanned panter's servant
If theyre just going to make the cards worthless, then the sealed boxes dont need to be $200+ anymore. I bought a ton of Commander Masters chasing Lotus's and i got a handful, but now theyre completely useless.
Can't trust any card value at all anymore. When will they ban the next best cards? TOMORROW?
I have my mana crypt (special guest) for sale but it doest go
Color?
@@brysonjohnson3140 normal but foil
I bought mana vaults 2 weeks ago. That card has went up 200%. Great luck I had.
AGREED! If Mana Crypt is egregious, so is Sol Ring! The demand for Mana Crypt in Vintage and Vintage Cube isnt gonna be enough to prevent it from tanking to 25% value in the long term. It's actually printed into oblivion at this point. It's going to lose A LOT of value for losing it's place in the most casual format in the game.
Have a SP purple mana crypt. I'll die before I let go. Wizards messed up somehow even worse than magic 30th. 😂
There was insider trading before the ban.
They were selling their cards before announcing the ban.
Hey just wanna say im a dummy, I said earlier that it may be used in modern, but these fancy cards were specifically made for commander. It really sucks for the die hard fans yeah but casual playerbase does benefit? Maybe they unban after a year but that'd be price fixing no?
I agree it helps casual; but that is why cedh needs its own banlist.
@@derrickpaulson3093 yeah or TCG stores opt in for better sit down games somehow with casual/cedh pods. Some do mine we raise hands for cedh and those who don't go in normal pod. These cards make a deck instantly cedh
This is absolute crazy pants… it’s the timing…. I have been playing a long damn time, i have had my foiled karn liberated, lliana of the veil and Jace the Mind Sculpture all tank, when standard was a thing it happened price tank happened all the time when sets rotated out, now its a reprint machine which makes the game more accessible (which i like, aside from being a collector…. To a degree), but this last banning makes me sus…. Why print the card at all or reprint in the newest sets…… thats what makes me pissed
Jeweled Lotus is going to sub $10 guaranteed
Imagine opening a crypt or lotus from the festival in a box collector boosters and a day later this happens
The reason it still looks like its going up is because the rarest versions probably havent sold within the last 48 hours. And until the ban they did nothing but go up.
Im sure there will be huge dips very soon.
The rocks were fine..... and I'm not just saying that because I have copies.
Cyclonic rift is way worst than all of these cards
Mana Vault 5th edition is $270 CAD now. I have one and Im very happy that I at least got compensated
The slow drop off in price on the normal ones could just be the usual drop that cards have. It could also be insider information causing the price to slowly drop.
I wouldn't expect the value on the rarest versions to drop much, because they are typically collectibles rather than game pieces. I'm not sure why the prices would go up though.
I paid money to get my Mana Crypt. Without it, my vehicle deck would just be top decking Boros lands, while everyone else's decks still take off like rocket ships. F the RC! I'm going to keep using my Mana Crypt.
I pulled 4 mana crypts over the years.
Holding them. Dont care what is banned or not.
Also have some of the "offensive" cards that were banned.
I made a commander deck based on auto countering spells, creatures, cards etc, except for mine.
A certain blue card i bought that i bought for the rules and how it worked with my commander deck, didnt give a hoot about the art, the name, just the text box for the rules the card.
Having a game ban cards for real life seems stupid, seperate a game from reality, black and white are also just colors in a game, not real life people on cardboard.......
Vented.
what are you on about?
My revised mana vault went from $40 to $120 overnight
The reason why the neon inks look like they aren't tanking is because there are no sales in the past 24 hours. Once people start buying them at the low prices then it'll show the crash.
Ya, that's what I concluded. No recent sales data on the big boys unless off of tracking websites
FYI tcgplayer experimenting with settings again, some of those charts are for LP and MP.
This is true, I shoulda filtered NM
A player on Anger Collections live stream, said they buying up cards from the banned list.
Imagine after all the heat they decided to reverse the ban
Think I just keep my few of these I’ve got. Hearing alot of commander players and LGS say they will allow them to be played still.
I hope so as I will now be playing no ban list cedh until they backpedal or make two banned lists.
Hanging on to my Mana Crypt invention. Could be a cEDH split off format coming or a reversal of this RC decision.
I picked up a crypt off ebay for $45 post ban.
Crazy thing though, I almost picked one up pre ban but opted got a box of duskmourn instead.
I still have a sealed box of commander legends draft boosters. There goes the chase card. Guess it will drop in price now too
The guy at 11:41 who sold a Crypt, Lotus and Vault for 250$ at the 12th is kinda sus.
Ain't that something
Had that inside track
The Top Deck cEDH tournaments follow their own ban list so it could have something to do with that.
Why would they come out and reverse course after the RC and WotC coordinated these cards being banned??
If anything the RC might announce a separate cEDH list soon and it's spec?
Or just full casuals? (Doubt it)
I'm glad I don't collect MTG anymore haven't in years 💯
Seems like the premium versions will hold some value, but the regular versions are going to crash and burn. To those who believe an unban is imminent, don't hold your breath!
Does anyone know how rare it is for the double sided cards to have a misprint with the wrong card on one side?( i mean they have the front of one card and the back of a totally different card)
Imagine a world where Wotc gets to the point where they are accused of Market Manipulation & actually convicted.
The price graph you are looking at tracks sales. Those mana crypts are not bought that often. So if the last sale was 3 weeks ago that is the number it is going to show. What it really means is NO ONE IS BUYING THESE. It only tracks the last 3 months of sales. There is no data meaning the last one sold was over 3 months ago. The price on these are not going up. There have been 0 sales to lock in a lower price on the graph.
This is how WOTC gets people to play standard again lol
Wow... lines more straighter than I am....
Wasn’t commander created by the people and WOTC adopted it?
Thank Joey I didn't pop for a mana crypt recently as I had planned...but I do plan on eating my 2 jeweled lotus for sustenance.
Truth be told there’s been an ongoing debate that Crypt gets the hammer for a while I sold off my copies with the exception of my OG one that one stays I sold the last of the 6 newer ones last month and honestly if the buyer said I changed my mind I’d make arrangements to get it back
Buying all foil, full art, alt art, raised etched foil jeweled lotus fugazi's for 25 cents. U pay shipping😂 lmfao
Wants to buy Jeweled Lotus (4-10)and Mana Crypt (4-10) of each
Also which cards are going to spike because of it 🤔
I thought about your last video on the bank during this one, it makes sense that a lot of these will prob tank.
Green Ranger keep the price up on mana krypt.
How is everything already not at zero?
These were probably just auctions that got caught out mid way
Terrible bans. They should ban sol ring if they are against fast mana. Playing Stacks slows down the format but people wont play that bc its a bad play experience.
I agree with Sol Ring. Should never have been legal in Commander in the first place. Unfortunately, because they include Sol Ring in every Commander Precon it's highly unlikely it will ever get the ban.
Nah, there is a huge difference in costing 1 mana instead of 0 and costing $5 instead of $150.
No one has jeweled lotus mana crypt except tryhards. Everyone has Sol Ring
Good bans should’ve included the moxes and thoracle.
And green
People buying are just speculating. That is all.
I have my white border spanish promo Mana Crypt that I'm not sure what to do with
Keep it. Play it. This is all bs.
players are doing buyouts
I won't be getting rid of any of mine. My play group has a rule 0 and we don't use the ban list. If WOTC prints it, we play it. You can stop any card from going off with what's out there. And if you don't build around what you are playing against, you can expect to lose.
Crazy ban, going to have huge impact
No point giving these away. Holding mine, not that I have a huge collection. Most were pulled vs bought so does not feel as bad. Still sucks though
Hard to say what’s going on
I decided to burn my banned cards rather than selling mine at a discount.
RC will apologize for being too heavy handed once everyone burns their cards. Then WotC will release an "Unbanned Secret Lair" for beaucoup bucks.
@@sergeiyamagoro431 😆
The format now
I will never sell my jeweled lotus
Get your cheap cards now ahead of the UNBAN by popular/disgruntled vote! No idea what to say about the $74k type cards. 📈
I feel you Joey,i feel the same
SUS
People are specing its going to be reversed
Unbanned in 5yrs watch
Love to see it
Hasbro, WOTC, and MTG don't care about you and your game pieces.
Except it was the rules committee that banned them, none of those three way to go, genius
What even is that last one?? Like the game itself, MTG does not care about me. It’s not sentient?? Are you sure 🤣

horseshit for some random group to say what you can use and what not. Ive unsubbed from all the RC youtube channels not need to prop them up like they walk on water.
Dead format😂
The Commander Committee should not be allowed to Kahoot with WOTC
I feel bad for the Kid .. he pulled a great card and then they just ban it .. what does that tell the new people about the game
Just watching and eating popcorn, I like how my Mana Vaults went up too lol
