I still can’t believe it. I don’t agree with it. Who isn’t running artifact removal? Who isn’t running cheap counterspells or removal for commanders? Idk man
I agree, their reasoning for it being “commanders get out too fast” I’m like “how many 1 mana removal exists within magic?” A lot. It just doesn’t seem right and really destroys CEDH as we know it. I love both EDH and CEDH and I understand both sides but holy shit does it suck having multiples of all these cards that I’ve spent money on and now can’t play them
Artifact removal doesn't really work against Jeweled Lotus. Could it be countered? Yes. Highly unlikely on first turn. But yes, the commander itself could be removed relatively quickly.
@@PriestMelchizedek and then out of the game effectively for a good while as most commanders using JL are 5 or higher so they need 7 mana at least to get them back out. It was a balanced card given how many answers there are for any given commander every turn for 2 or less mana.
I find it funny that dockside originally was in a commander pre con and jeweled lotus was made just for commander. IMO, commander was more enjoyable when it wasn't catered to, and the same could be said for modern. What made these formats so appealing was it gave your standard cards a home once they rotated out, now they just straight up print them for these formats.
Wow I seriously expected unbans coming for commander considering how they just keep printing insane power over and over and over. There are many cards on the current banlist that could easily come off and do no damage to the format casually or competitively. Glad I have spent a total of 40 bucks on this game in the past 5 years
The Commander Rules Committee seems like 5 dopes that just change the rules and which cards are banned based on their preferences on how THEY want to play. Who out there thinks EVERYONE wants 3 hour games. What if you only have 30 minutes? Guess you can’t play, the rules committee has all of the time in the world to sit around, and they said so.
@@benmeaige4306 This is specially true when you have multiple decks that you want to play in a single night. If games last more than 2 hours, there's really no point in building multiple decks, since you don't get to play more than once or twice.

Yeah, but that is hard to enforce. It is too difficult to discuss in casual settings. If you have a consistent playgroup, sure, but at that point, you could just as easily discuss not playing it.
Not really. It's rule zero unless you go to any tournament or Friday night commander league, etc. They have to adhere to the RC rules or they lose the sponsorship. I play both CEDH and causal Commander League. This affects both. What was the RC thinking??????
@@DylanHilliard1 they where thinking that being able to potentially play a 11 mana commander on turn 2 was a bit overkill... you know they rubbed 2 braincells together and found out that its not healthy for the format...

This is so stupid. They are just arbitrarily tanking the value of people’s collections. I don’t want to hear the rule zero comment, you can just as easily rule zero that they don’t want to play against it without tanking value. I so very disagree with this, I disagree with a five person rules committee appointed by nobody being able to control the value of people’s collections.
So they want to ban fast mana but they see no issues with decks that have a ton of Tutors who's game plan is to just get DC and Thoracle and do the magical 2 card combo to win the game on the spot. That is way less fun to play against compared to someone who ramped fast.
This has got to be one of the most controversial ban lists yet. I understand why they had to ban Nadu but Jeweled Lotus and Mana Crypt ? They made those as important chase cards for Lost Cavern of Ixlan and Commander Masters and now we can't play those anymore.
Honestly it's sketchy they ban the literal chase cards from the "better" collector packs from this festival in the box right after fulfilling those orders. It is shady
@@1bonebreaker1 yes, but there has to be some level of communication between them. All of these cards were reprinted within the last year. So there is some level of thought that went into the print cycle of these cards
Jeweled Lotus is now effectively reserve list. They will never reprint a banned card. I may be contrarian, but when the market races to the bottom, I will actually pick up a few copies for casual play.
So, the Lost Caverns of Ixalan set just got released 10 months ago containing SEVEN super-sexy reprints of Mana Crypt that have been selling anywhere from $200 all the way up to $3,200 on TCGP, along with a ton of Collector Boosters I'd guess, only to ban that hallmark card less that a year later? Banning just about any card is just away for people to say, my deck sucks. There are too many cards in this game to ban anything anymore. Too many ways to counter just about everything.
Mana Crypt - too much mana too fast, banned Dockside Extortionist - too much mana too fast, banned Jeweled Lotus - too much mana too fast, banned Gaea's Cradle - ....nah, no problem here
The One Ring - Protection from everything and draw a shitload of cards.. Nah no problem here. Thassa's Oracle - 90% of win cons in cEDH... Nah no problem here Rhystic Study - 3 mana insane draw engine... Nah no problem here.
And for what value? Why? Who was asking for this? It seems like the rules committee just wants all games to go the way they like to play. And they don’t care about what it does to people.
Being new, i own none of the cards but feel bad for anyone who have payed large amounts for them. As well as collecters who opened them and now lost huge amounts. When the price hits the low point I'd still like to buy a borderless jeweled lotus because it's still a beautiful card.
So glad my play group has a turn zero discussion about "banned" cards... Why print something, to ban it later, just because someone's feelings got hurt from losing a game. There are ways to stop combos. There's ways to stop stax decks. Build around what you play against, and if they manage to win, so be it
Agreed, removals and counterspells are a must but once again, brainless casuals who need their hand held complained about broken cards when they just play no board removal and just hope to win first. cEDH should be it's own format so it is not affected by that crap
"why print something, to ban it later" - This literally happens all the time in other formats. Fury was a $60 card, it got banned for being too good and warping a format. It's now a $5 card. This has been happening for literal decades. Why are you surprised by this? Some cards are simply mistakes and need to be removed from a format, now you can argue whether or not you feel these cards should have been removed or not and that's a personal thing for you, but its going to keep happening.
@@reigenomix9287 i mean, commander has an endless possibility of counterspells/removal, being a singleton 100 cards, instead of limit of 4 cards 60 cards, which makes decks have way more room for removal and protection spells. So even cards like nadu are less of an issue in tables with other good decks (nadu being a very broken card tho still makes it an issue for casual tables) but the other 3 were barely seen in casual, which is why cEDH needs a separate banlist
@@MaRiT850 "Play more removal and counterspells" is frankly a "no shit, Sherlock" kind of statement and the complaining about "Brainless Casuals" in a primarily casual focused format is just laughable. Everyone knows, save for the most battle cruiser of battle cruiser players, that you need to run interaction... but "just run more" isn't actually helpful to the play experience or deck building process.
I feel like the smartest guy in the room having sold all these staples when I saw their rate of reprints ramping up a couple years ago. Didn't see this coming but I did assume these would just be printed into oblivion.
I think wizards should have a mandatory buyback of jeweled lotus for 100 dollar magic product vouchers seeing as they made the card not useable in any format.its like selling lawnmowers and then saying it’s illegal to mow lawns.
i bought a textured foil jeweled lotus when commander masters released. i paid over 500bucks for it, overnight i lose half the value and still plummeting while people hysterically fire sell the card. this hurts the trust in the game and the integrity of the rules committee as well as wizards of the coast, you cannot constantly police the card game to change the meta, the game is looking more and more like Yu-Gi-Oh by the day where they have a ever expanding banned and limited list. this ban only financially hurt players and LGS owners. its just not ok what they just did to all of us.
It’s hilarious that they are afraid of a potential lawsuit about some promise they made towards the reserved list but they have no issue doing stuff like this. This is completely ridiculous. Destroying people’s cards value into zero. What they are basically saying is we can and will destroy the worth of your collection at any time, no cards are safe because we print new ones all the time and when we mess up or do it even deliberately to make people buy our product, we don’t care, choke in it. I’m so done with WotC.
Banning all these cards at once was a slap to Wizards (that i support) Wizards knew of these bans and proceesed to print the cards as chase rares knowing that they would be worthless later. Wizards profitied off of a card they knew would be banned and sfuffed it into packs to squeeze every last scent out of players.
Jeweled lotus being banned hurts, but could have been worse for me. I only own one, but I paid $90 for it. It's now my black lotus proxy and will see play since my play group usually ends up playing with casual vintage rules where we don't really have to worry about bans and restrictions for the most part. Mana crypt hits extra hard. I never bought any as singles, but I do own 5 of them and bought heavily into mystery booster 1 and Ixalan collector packs in the hopes of getting them. They are currently all used in my more premium commander decks. That being said, every time I've played one of those decks, I haven't drawn a jeweled lotus or mana crypt until late in the game when they are no longer useful. In the case of crypt, it becomes harmful due to the coin flip chance of losing life in exchange for mana that is no longer needed. In 60 card decks, where they are all going now, there is a far greater chance of pulling them early enough to be useful. I have one dockside, but it's in a deck I rarely play that was built to vintage specs to begin with. That being said, watching cards drop by $200 sucks and makes me very nervous to chase high value cardboard in the future. As a collector as well as a player, I have avoided using proxies up until this point. That changes now.
Commander is NOT a competitive format to begin with, its entire appeal is the freedom of choice. I'll keep playing whatever I want and I suggest that everybody does the same.
Im not sure how to feel about this. They don't seem like the care enough to do full research and discussion for the banned list. First off there are cards that should be unbanned. Second, there are other cards that seem like they should be banned. Timetwister is one that should be considered since it's money cost creates a "pay to win" effect. Then we have cards like Thassa's Oracle that warp the concept of winning and cuts the throat of colors that can't interact. Why can't white have a "I win the game card?"? At the same time coalition victory is banned. Are we so braindead we can't see that an 8 mana win the game is banned while 3 mana win the game is perfectly fine? One could argue that Ad Nauseum should be banned since basically is you are not playing blue you cant stop it and it usually means win the game that turn. The card design wasn't meant for a 40 life game. We all know banning crypt and jewel will take some adjusting. Some of my decks just died. I was about half way into building a Nadu deck. Dockside will hurt red decks a lot. White stays bad. I guess you better be playing black and blue if you want to compete.
In my opinion, I believe this is a stupid ban because jeweled lotus is unplayable and mana crypt is restricted in vintage which I’m guessing doesn’t get played a lot. These prices might as well go down to like $1-10 for jeweled lotus and $50-60 or stay closer to higher value for mana crypt only because it can still be used in vintage.
So they anchor CM with Jeweled Lotus, Dockside and LCI with Mana Crypt....then ban them? Pinnacle of crappiness IMO. They make it so that, unfortunately, you have to choose player or collector but really have hard time affordably being both. They get THEIR money then ban the cards. Wow. What HAPPENED to the game we love?
I literally went right to youtube to hear your thoughts Joey, this is crazy considering it both mana crypts from ixalan have been some of my best pulls from opening II am devastated. I only got the neon yellow, but it was such a big element to me buying the sealed product, same for chasing jeweled lotus. It feels so rigged, like they wanted to milk us one last time with fake chase cards that will soon be bookmarks. Its wild! Edit: Im gonna bet prices settle at about a 65% to 80% tank; especially for the higher end versions and unique arts.
Mind you, this didn't happen until AFTER Sheldon died. WotC doesn't care because it's sold product as opposed to banning Sol Ring which is in EVERY COMMANDER PRECON. The Commander Rules Committee exists outside of WotC as we know, but if they start messing with THEIR money over that of the secondary market, the CRC would go away.
I think the right answer here is maintain the EDH ban list, and make cEDH its own format and have no bans for the first year. Unban literally everything for cEDH, see what shakes out.
I don't give 2 f*cks about Nadu or even Dockside. Jeweled Lotus and Mana Crypt are some of my favorite cards. Crypt will retain some value, but not the Lotus. I'm afraid to collect any power card now.
I feel sad. For my 18th bday, my sister gifted me a pack of CM. I pulled a foil borderless Lotus. It was the best gift I ever received and the opus of my collection. Now I feel confused and disappointed. The sentiment is there but the significance is lost
This is just wrong. Jeweled lotus is good but its not that good to be banned. You would need that with a soul ring and 2 of your mana colors in had to even really utilize it and that wont even be till turn 2. Come on guys.
Very justified bans except for nadu, timing is definitely questionable This is a very enlightening comment section, the only place ive seen so far where people are upset about jewled lotus ban, very odd.
I honestly feel like they were trying to preotect casuals with these bans. I play cEDH, ran all but Nadu in my deck and to be honest, it pushes the level of cEDH decks down. I think it is not that justifiable if people face off against the same power level, which is why i think they should stay banned in EDH but also why i want a separate ban list/no banlist for cEDH
Kinda surprised the One Ring wasn’t banned. Also convenient they did all that after they sold all those alt art Mana Crypts and Jeweled Lotus. But overall, I’m not affected by this list. Never owned or played with any of them, and I’m completely fine with it. It’s not like there’s other powerhouse cards in the format anyway.
I'm almost certain they'll reverse the Jeweled Lotus ban. Wizards only has it legal for one format and it's a cash cow and moves boxes when its printed. This is a horrible PR issue for them. They gotta do damage control for that one. With that said, I just picked up a Jeweled Lotus for 94 dollars for a boarderless foil version. Booyah!
ofc jeweled lotus would be banned, the rules comity said that they begged wizards to not print the card. also Wizards are not in charge of the EDH rules.
Yeah, this is absolutely ridiculous make broken/competitive card don't ban it right away knowing its going to be a problem. Keep it unbanned until its reprinted to squeeze out some money then waiting about a year to then ban them. I feel so bad for some people that purchased these cards on the higher end. My heart goes out to you if you have purchased these cards and expected to play with them in any setting, and now have sit on it. Especially if you were thinking of using it in a tournament.
Right. You just pulled the fancy lotus thats only for one format. Lets pump prices on the masters products with the juiciest pulls then ban the best cards. Such a great move.

A format specific card that was used to sell millions of dollars of product getting banned only after said boxes have been sold and said card has become a staple. Comedy.
Mana Crypt ban before Sol Ring is proof this was an accessibility ban. Even then, it wasn’t breaking the format. And banning because a card is “unfun” isn’t a good enough reason.
Jeweled Lotus is just as iconic as Sol Ring, can only be used in Commander, and can only be used to summon your Commander. It's super niche and it's usefulness outside of the first two turns drops off hard, which is a trade off you need to keep in mind while deck building. It's ban section reads like someone on the rules committee got blasted by Valgavoth, Soul Harrower and took it personally. Mana Crypt has always been very strong, but if you want to ban Mana Crypt you have to ban Sol Ring, and they don't seem to want to. This one feels like they wanted to cash out and burn everything down to the ground behind them, which may or may not also apply to Jeweled Lotus. I don't have any experience with Dockside Extortionist, so I can't comment on that. Nandu had it coming. All in all, it feels bad all around, except for the Nadu ban.
I have 3 jeweled lotuses, and now they're worthless. Instead of picking up in price with time, they're now worthless. I also have 10 commander legends boxes that I put away, and I was going to sit on for 10+ years, but those are worthless now as well.
The RC are cowards for banning both Lotus and Crypt, but not banning Sol Ring, sure who gives a crap if it's iconic, it's still a Fast Mana card that produces 5-6 mana as of turn 3, and it fits into any deck pretty much, how about Arcane Signet, you gonna ban that too RC?

Fun fact you can still play it but only in the unchanged precon
My Cedh player friend told me to unload them a few months ago. He also told me one ring is next!
Wow I seriously expected unbans coming for commander considering how they just keep printing insane power over and over and over. There are many cards on the current banlist that could easily come off and do no damage to the format casually or competitively. Glad I have spent a total of 40 bucks on this game in the past 5 years
I’m joining you. What’s the point of buying anything? You are doomed to lose value.
I just replaced my neighbors water pump in his suburban for a mana crypt and 12 beers. Now i have no beers and a coaster. 😢blood sweat and tears got me a lil emotional on this news.
Oh man, that's brutal
Terrible bans. Good thing the rules committee said themselves that the banned list is just a suggestion 😂
Jeweled Lotus is bulk now.
It has a tiny amount of use. If playing Urza, it can be tapped for U. If playing artifact saccing cards, it has a tiny use. But yeah, this is bs. I own maybe 5, including a foil and extended art version, so this sucks.

This is so stupid. They are just arbitrarily tanking the value of people’s collections. This is exactly what they did with Hullbreacher, they waited until they sold
This has got to be one of the most controversial ban lists yet. I understand why they had to ban Nadu but Jeweled Lotus and Mana Crypt ? They made those as important chase cards for Lost Cavern of Ixlan and Commander Masters and now we can't play those anymore.

I know Nadu had a shorter life span, and the Wizards have already admitted their mistake regarding that one, but it doesn't have a ton of different printings for it either, and it also hasn't been around as long as the game itself. December 2023, I pull a Mana Crypt out of a set booster for LCI, trade it for a Jeweled Lotus and a bunch of other great cards that add up to the 200 dollar range that Mana Crypt was around that time
Fast forward to June of this year, I go to my LGS that I have supported for a few years now and trade in my Jeweled Lotus for a prerelease kit of MH3, pull more than enough to have made the trade worth it (even then)
I think I massively avoided getting screwed over by this ban
Banning just about any card is just away for people to say, my deck sucks.
There are too many cards in this game to ban anything anymore. Too many ways to counter just about everything.
Mana Crypt - too much mana too fast, banned
Dockside Extortionist - too much mana too fast, banned
Jeweled Lotus - too much mana too fast, banned
Gaea's Cradle - ....nah, no problem here
💀sol ring too
The One Ring - Protection from everything and draw a shitload of cards.. Nah no problem here.
Thassa's Oracle - 90% of win cons in cEDH... Nah no problem here
Rhystic Study - 3 mana insane draw engine... Nah no problem here.
Gaea's Cradle taps for nothing alot more than you think. its also not fast mana. it needs a creature on the field to be a forest,

Today, Commander became a rotating format.
Never buying another magic card again
I pulled a textured Lotus and was overjoyed just a few months back. Now it's worth toilet paper.
Cedh needs to be its own format. Period.

if jewel drops below $20 im likely to grab one
Jeweled is ridiculous to be banned. I own 3…. Dang

So why ban these now and not like years ago?
I feel like they need to make a seeded pack for when they ban expensive cards like this that you can trade your now useless cards in for at your LGS.
Very justified bans except for nadu, timing is definitely questionable
This is a very enlightening comment section, the only place ive seen so far where people are upset about jewled lotus ban, very odd.
I can see mana crypt , i honestly can understand that, but didnt think it would be so soon. But the Jeweled Lotus?! Thats a big L honestly
I have the commander masters jeweled lotus wall scroll in my bedroom. Now it just hangs there...mocking me.
Might as well just ban all cards.
There is little need to ban a card like sol ring that has been printed so much that anyone can get one for a minor price.
Booyah!
ofc jeweled lotus would be banned, the rules comity said that they begged wizards to not print the card. also Wizards are not in charge of the EDH rules.

i sorta agree with the other 3 bans but jeweled lotus is a crazy thing to ban
There probably is still sol rings coming up. Once you see them disapearing from the commander starters you know that it's time to dump
Prices before ban
Dockside - £85
Jeweled lotus - £100
Mana crypt - £180
Price 3 hours after (tcg player)
Dockside - £26
Jeweled lotus - £37
Mana crypt - £95
I have 3 jeweled lotuses, and now they're worthless. Instead of picking up in price with time, they're now worthless. I also have 10 commander legends boxes that I put away, and I was going to sit on for 10+ years, but those are worthless now as well.
The RC are cowards for banning both Lotus and Crypt, but not banning Sol Ring, sure who gives a crap if it's iconic, it's still a Fast Mana card that produces 5-6 mana as of turn 3, and it fits into any deck pretty much, how about Arcane Signet, you gonna ban that too RC?
