In my opinion, Crockett and Jones set the standard for what could be considered a "good" pair of shoes worthy of that price. Sure, there are some makers like Edward Green and G&G that use better materials in their construction or have more stylised lasts, but C&J the set the standard at a more reasonable price point. The difference between English and Italian-made shoes is that you can count more reliably on the price of English shoes being indicative of the quality you can expect from them.
Loake would be the good starting point for a pair of shoes, especially the 1880 range and Export too. E.G has very similar lasts compared to C&J, they are both very traditional but it is evident that C&J benchgrade has inferior finishing and leather compared to E.G. C&J handgrade is not that far from E&G. G&G is more slender and chiselled on their last and toe - fantastic arch support - but it is not fair to compare them to your regular U.K makers. Their design is more Italian while offering the construction of an English shoe.
@@thomash.9930 Agreed, but the difference in price between Crockett and Jones and the other two luxury makers is considerable. Loake are ok as a starting point provided you stick to the Export and 1880 range; it is unclear to me how much of the pattern cutting and lasting is done in India and what is still done in the UK if that matters to the consumer. A better alternative to C&J would be to check out Paul Sargent (formally Alfred Sargeant). Their latest loafer is the Cleaver 2 and is excellently made.
@@heycidskyja4668 I am gutted as I never got to experience A.S. I loved an Adelaide they did which was similar to G&G's St-James II. Paul Sargent does not have many stockists in the U.K, to my knowledge, and their advertising leaves to be desired in this very competitive market. What is your experience like with Paul Sargent?
@@thomash.9930 Yes, you're quite right about their advertising and online presence! They basically only sell made-to-order directly to the consumer from their website, which you can find by googling. I have a pair of Cleaver 2 and Fordham boots from their Country Range and I love them. The good news is that they still make and sell the classic Moore Adelaides you referred to. Maybe give them a call!
An excellent comparison breakdown. You must be banned from Gucci by now haha, well done for standing up for thr consumer, and informing people about quality shoes :)
What a disappointing retail experience your visit to that Gucci store must have been. I'll bet they were probably manufactured in China as well. I maybe biased, living in the UK, but imo you cannot beat a pair of UK made shoes.
I bought a used pair of Gucci loafers 3 or 4 years ago for about 100€, to see if I'd like them. And indeed, without a doubt my most worn pair. I beat the shit out of it and it needed to be replaced. Instead of going with a new Gucci one, I went with Carmina's version, as part of their custom program. Straps and heelcounters are in alligator leather, the rest is all black funchal calf. A few other nice touches, such as cuban heels, green lining with my name on it, undied soles. I also added brass toe taps and shoe trees, which cost respectively 50 and 90€. Yet I paid 724€ for the whole package, so far less than the plain calf Gucci loafers. Hope it will help you if you were considering getting Gucci ones.
@@EnduringAttire Purchased the Gucci pair on eBay, but again it was a while ago, so nowadays such a deal is harder to find! I actually received the Carmina pair two days ago, impatient to wear it 😃 But yeah, great brand.
Can you also feature Berwick aside from Carmina ? Would be interesting. Super nice topics and you already have me hooked on your content . Saludos desde Filipinas…
Great video! I have some great loafers by Kenneth Cole from Nordstrom! They are better than Gucci! They were 150.00. I also have some GH Bass loafers USA which are superb! And speaking of good quality, I find Geoxx to be superb! They have shops in Europe where I bought a pair, but here in the US sometimes you can find at Nordstrom! Ridiculous spending 1,000 euro for Gucci loafers, just for the name! Not surprised the salespeople knew nothing about the shoe, this is typical anywhere !
Bought Carmina loafers last year. I must say, I feel the leather is soft but creases easily. And if you pay attention, Carmina raises their prices at least 2-4x a year 😢 Anyway, saving up for Crockett Jones Tassel loafers
Since when did Gucci become more luxurious than Crockett and Jones? Gucci is worn by rappers and Kardashians while C&J is literally worn by the British King and James Bond.
With Gucci you are talking about designer's shoes, when Italy as a country has a platora of very high quality shoemakers labs that are renowned worldwide, and with a long history...the video is misleading

Depending of the model Carmina uses different leathers, from my experience everyone is increasing the prices but specially luxury is crazy :(
Love yr channel👍👍
TLB Mallorca Kiowa Loafer's blow them both out of the park and they're much more affordable (~320€)
Yes that's another great shoemaker from Mallorca

Yep that's true :)
What about Spanish shoes?
I'll do a video about all the brands I know
C&J for me.
With Gucci you are talking about designer's shoes, when Italy as a country has a platora of very high quality shoemakers labs that are renowned worldwide, and with a long history...the video is misleading
Could be but even tho, most of the shoes are blake that's not the best in terms of quality
Spanish shoes.
