    Allspice is a spice on its own, it doesn’t contain cloves, but TASTES mostly like a combination of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper

    Must it be stirred constantly? Mine took FOREVER to thicken, like 45-50 minutes after sugar added, then another 40-50 minutes after adding spices, and it never did get as thick as yours. (I’m at sea level). But MAN , is it good!

    • @artofcreationhomestead
      @artofcreationhomestead  3 года назад

      Most store brand sugars are beet sugar. Brands like domino and c&h are pure cane sugar. We choose to use pure cane sugar because beet sugar is typically gmo and we try to avoid gmo things but beet sugar will work just fine in it.
      I've never measured that. I usually just go by the amount of apples and that sometimes makes more or less sauce depending on the size of the apples.

    Hello again 🤗…well, I tried making this apple butter and I think I went wrong somewhere along the way 😬. I used honey crisp apples (24 medium-very large size). I followed your directions; 1 1/2 cup water and 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar…it produced so much liquid 😱. I waited about 2 hrs for the liquid to evaporate before adding the sugar. From there it took another 3 hrs with the sugar to thicken back up again. By then my mix had begun getting dark. Any recommendations?

    • @artofcreationhomestead
      @artofcreationhomestead  Год назад +1

      Honey crisp apples are very juice and produce a lot more juice when cooked. It would take a lot longer to cook down all that juice, and you would have to cook it at a lower temperature because the large amount of sugars in honey crisp. As long as the darkened mixture doesn't taste burnt, then it is just natural darkening, and it will not matter because the spices make it very dark
