Reggie was stealing toilet seats as a form of grieving for her lost sister. The ‘toilet tree’ was a shrine for George. Claire’s stolen toilet seat was made red for the viewers to know which one was hers. George made the decision to survive and move on with her undead life. She went back to Dolores Herbig to get her job back. As ‘Mildred Hagen’ she was going to impress Dolores using Betty’s way of winning people over (‘quilts’). It worked as Dolores wanted to get close and call her ‘Millie’. Will George talk to Reggie? She made the decision to try to be a good big sister and look after Reggie. George took Claire’s RED toilet seat out of the tree to secretly return it to Claire and get Reggie out of trouble.
This isn't a true comedy but a dark comedy, a subgenre; it's not meant to be taken completely seriously or light-hearted. What I love about this show is that it tackles the subject of death by threading the theme of George's acceptance of her afterlife while balancing the tone with sharp and funny dialogue. The only season feels like a mini-series of sorts. I'm telling you, they really attack different aspects of death and how as reapers it is supposed to be gruesome and messed up sometimes but death isn't always horrific. It's a big mystery. There are not many series at all, let alone in the history of American television that isn't an anthology that is good and balancing it. This is a Bryan Fuller series; he's brilliant. You may know his other works, Pushing Daisies, Hannibal, Wonderfalls, and American Gods.
This is a beautiful show. I introduced my friend and his wife to this show. I bought the two seasons on DVD. They ended up buying the seasons also. A couple of years later she developed terminal brain cancer. My friend told me they started watching the show again and it helped her deal with what was happening to her.
Shout out to your Patreon patron who got you going on this. It is 1 of my top 2 shows all time, and I have never seen anyone (yet) thats reacted to the whole series..... so fingers crossed it continues on.
THIS show IS exactly "UNEXPECTED" Larissa! And I never expected someone to react to it, so THANK YOU. The dead dude had experienced the autopsy... That's why he had those surgical scars. Cheers
I forgot how messed up and strangely satisfying this show is. It kind of puts you in the mindset of may as well life your best life in this life because it is impossible to know what waits beyond it.
This is a great show. It's a good coming of age story. Personally I feel like it's a metaphor for growing up and not being a kid anymore. Keep watching because in season 2, Mason's "origin story" is told in a great episode.
nice! I was hoping this was going to be a series. please continue, I totally subscribed because noooo one does a reaction to this show. It's such a gem. and I quickly became a fan of your personality. you're just very genuine. can't wait to see more of this show :)
I hope you keep watching the series. One of my favorites. There's also a movie that is sort of the last season, since the show kinda got cancelled before it could be properly wrapped up. Another great show ended by execs prematurely for no apparent reason.
17:40 : I had some difficulties to appreciate in the first episode the main character. She always never happy, in his life and in his death. lool Like a "Teenager phase" that never end in his young adult age. But she change my mind later and i loved this show. Glad to see it again with you and the community of Ytb.
The one girl what's described as a silent movie star and the talkies came in in twenty seven. So that means that her and roob are probably doing this about a hundred years.
"Off the grid" in this context means 'making money under the table'; it means outside government monitoring, so no taxes, no government benefits, no proof of income. If he died in 1966 (and especially if he died trying to get a 'permanent' high, so was a drug user) he did not have steady employment, so was experienced in ways of proving for himself without responsibly holding down a job. And a good part of his survival strategies requires a lack of ethics and a good deal of law-breaking. Just so you know, he's actually a relatively recent member of this Reaper colony.
So the idea of drilling of hole in your head to increase oxygen flow is called trepanation. It is taken from a very early medical procedure by people seeking a euphoric feeling from the increased oxygen to the brain. My first thought was brain infection and I never got past that part.
Its one of my favourity shows. It has real character development and ist funny with a message at the same time. Really a pitty it had only 2 seasons + a movie.
A show that was really similar in style had to me DROP DAED DIVA. Back in the Fifties there were also some movie in this stylle like the first time THE ANGEL WITH A TRUMPET was done 13:13 Rub calls her in the original PENUT, in the German dubbed version it is PÜPPCHEN = LITTLE DOLL.
1:33 ... that got me so confused. It took me a whole 3 seconds to (a) realise that that's not my phone ringing and (b) remember where the ringtone I've had for 20 years came from. Oops...
Wait until you get to the movie after the series was cancelled, the entire storyline of this show was amazing. I really wish Ellen Muth went on to do more in Hollywood.
I really love this show and rewatched it several times. But when I do, I usually skip the parts with Georges family in the later episodes, when they are not directly observed by her. I guess, the creator wanted to show not only the side of George, but also of those left behind. But in my opinion, this disturbes the flow of the story and also, there are literally thousands of shows that portray those who lost someone. But seeing the view from the deceased is what makes this show special.
I think the smart thing to do if undead like them is try to hang onto some stuff until it becomes worth something like Ming Vases were common in the past and then due to lack of them surviving they became collectible and worth big money.
the problem is, Rube's explanation is "you just have to do it" and that isn't very useful, when as far as she can see, why can't someone else do it? "well you just have to" doesn't make much sense, and (like death) takes time to just accept.
Yeah they kinda all give her bad advice, but that's mostly because they don't know what to tell her. The reapers are only told the bare minimum to do the job by people who don't know what is going on either. Also they're all people who are either morally gray or just coasting through life like she was. None of them know how to live what could they tell her.
@@gerhen4505 yup. even Rube is not some perfect person, they're all just kinda stuck in a situation they don't exactly like... this really is kind of a limbo equivalent, some flavor of middle ground to work off... something in order to move on. None of them are great and none of them understand what's going on. It isn't George's fault either, she just hasn't seen enough to give in and go along yet.
I don't think it's canon but my theory is you have to reap until your debts are cleared. The guy who died in 66 wasn't evil but he wasn't good either. He was selfish, and has remained largely selfish. Stealing gets you to "survive" as a reaper, but maybe it means you can't go to paradise? I mean, I'd be tempted to go on as a reaper. You would learn how to make money, realistically. Even if you only worked a few hours a day. It would be tricky to work around the tracking of finances we have now, though. But I can imagine someone writing, say, erotica, which is where the big money is, and getting paid in bitcoin. Cash out in gold and bury caches. It would pay to learn how to make a false identity. I don't realistically know how the reapers avoid being harassed by the surveillance state, though. It seems to me that the government would pick up on what they are doing and try to control them.
About Mason robbing parking meters and he's still stuck on Earth after 40 years-it's called karma. When he no longer steals (or wrongs people) he can collect enough good points to move on to the hereafter. Sad, Larissa doesn't even have context.... if she just googled the writer or showrunner then she would get a clue, and so who the f*** is Bryan Fuller... Let's list some shite he was involved with, Pushing Daises, or before that some Star Treks like DS9 or Voyager or Later shite like Heroes. If you like something follow it or learn about it. Super loved DLM and later Pusher, just now googled and found out he is bad and October2023 charged with bad stuff... Perhpaps she is better not knowing, I have liked Fuller's work, but now it is tainted 20 years later.

Thanks for giving this series a “ new life!” One of my favorites since my original viewing. Funny, sweet, full of deeper meaning.❤

2 seasons and a movie. The tone of the movie is a bit different though.
If you think there is only one season, you're missing out on a whole lot.
I loved pushing daisies as well, I was very upset when that got cancelled...

Yeah. This show has the best opening credits scenes around. It never fails to make me laugh, especially the stapler part. 😊
When they do laundry, it darks only 😁🧺
ABSOLUTELY BEST opening credits scene of any show ever, especially the basketball & laundry parts!!!!!!! ☠️☠️☠️

16:21 they have a finale movie 5 years after the show got cancelled and while I won't spoil what happens in it it does answer the question you ask.
I had to get a copy of the song used in the ED (I think it was Boom Boom Ba by Metisse), super amazing.

Yay more Dead Like Me! I hope you keep going with this show, it's so good. Go into it more from a dramedy lens than pure comedy.

Hola Larissa, la mujer con el cabello mas hermoso que e visto, me encantan tus videos, saludos con mucho cariño desde PERÚ.✌😎
Glad you are react to this show it's about dark comedy,.
YES!!!
Great analysis 😅😊😅
They also made a movie I’d hope to see your reaction on it
I don't think it's supposed to be a comedy. It's a drama that has comedy elements.
Dramedy, basically.
It’s a pure black comedy. Nearly every death is absurd and played for laughs. Nearly everything out of Rubes, Roxy’s and Mason’s mouth is a joke.
toilet tree = toiletries hah!
10:08 "What _is_ that?" I think it's a piece of the Waffle House sign that was inadvertently left in her body when they pulled most of the rest out.
Perhaps @LarissaZeeuwe needs to watch Pushing Daisies now that she has seen a couple of DLM
Another great show that ended way too soon.
Have the serie on dvd. It was a great show. Sad that they cancelled it after the second season.
Ellen Muth (George) has a RUclips channel but sadly she hasn't posted in 2 years.
She also has twitter, but shes been using it almost exclusively to promote coffee she makes now.
