Harry and Martin are the stars of a sitcom called "Men Behaving Badly" (Harry left after season 1 stating he felt the show wasn't working with him in it and it continued on with Martin and another actor: Neil Morrissey). I'd recommend it but it's very 90s so not sure how well it holds up now. Might be worth a look though...

Men Behaving Badly is archetypal of every nineties flatmate sitcom (although its basis was a book written in the eighties) where it's very much a period piece now, not just the lad culture element but how unattainable that lifestyle is in 2024. But I'd still second the recommendation because it's very funny. And inevitably people who didn't get it will say "dOn'T wAtCh ThE fIrSt SeRiEs" but it should be watched from the beginning, partly to provide context for the second onwards and partly because it's better than a lot of people think.

Martin Clunes is a national treasure, most famous these days as Doc Martin which is more a family friendly primetime dramedy, so probably not good for reacting to even though it's a cute and fun little show, years back he was best known for 'Men Behaving Badly', which I loved at the time but haven't watched it since so not sure if it's the kind of comedy which has aged well, I'd guess probably not! He used to live in a village not far from me in Southern England and all the villagers said what a delight he was, he'd walk around like a local and get involved with the community, not just lock himself away in his large house. As someone who grew up playing rugby in Wales this is exactly how we always pictured English public school rugby players! 🤣 I played a lot of games against public schools and they always thrashed us because they were so good, but we'd still make sure we kicked the crap of them for good measure so they were black and blue the next day! 🤣

Yep, nowadays, Martin Clunes and his family live in a house, possibly a farm, in the beautiful rolling countryside of west Dorset, in south-west England.
Doc Martin was a long running gentle comedy drama that ran for many series over many years. It was set in the fictional, picturesque, north Cornwall coastal village of Port Wen, (Port Isaac in real life). Martin Clunes played Doc Martin, the village doctor/GP., who was originally a gifted surgeon in London but had to leave that role as he had a phobia of blood ! He also appears to be on the "spectrum", (perhaps autism, but never mentioned on the show), manifesting itself in rather abrupt, direct, honest speech and a dislike of socialising, which regularly caused offence or misunderstanding to the locals. Deep down though, he seemed to be a kind, caring man though - just with an often unintentional off-putting manner on the surface. It's better than it sounds of you like gentle comedy drama and the frequent shots of the beautiful coastal location.

Not sure if the humour is as good today, or if I have changed, I was about ten years old when it was on TV. Or if it translates for people on the other side of the pond. I can barely remember it. But I do remember owning it on VHS, so I must have liked it enough, at the time.

Today's TV comedy shows are absolute trash, comedy shows in the UK have been trash since Inbetweeners or about 2015 barring one or two exceptions... That's why there's very few, if any modern British shows on reaction channel's or why near enough every poll has older pre-2015 shows in top UK comedy lists... Men Behaving Badly is still in my top 5 all time British TV comedy shows!

Chuffed that you checked out one of my recommendations KB 😂. Martin Clunes plays a not to dissimilar character in Men Behaving Badly. Harry Enfield was also a lead role in its first Season. Although most would say season 1 was it's worst season.
With regards to the Rugby/ Football thing, i dont think there's any negativity between the fans, its aimed more towards the players. In football player's Dive, fall over and barrel role for ten mins when they get the slightest touches on thier shoe laces. In Rugby men just headbutt each other for 80mins solid 😂

In the red light district of Amsterdam I asked the bar owner of a dive who were the most trouble he'd ever had had in 30 years in his bar. He said without a doubt it was a Brit police rugby team , they were crazy bastards He said he had to break his rule of never calling the local cops as it could affect his license , but had too after they threw his bouncer out on the street , When the local cops turned up they said, " look it's our fiends from England we played against in rugby, did nothing and left the rugby team behind to cause more mayhem.

Looks like Amsterdam likes Brit police rugby team who smash the place up, but local cop like watching and laughing because they said look it's friend from UK. No any proper fan of sport easily recognise that rugby players are so much harder and tougher than football players. Rugby players get hit so hard and get back up, in the old days footballers were tougher but not as tough as rugby players but nowadays footballers they get a tap or nug and there rolling around on the floor like a rolling pin.

Weird sport, rugby union. It was completely amateur (at least nominally) until 1995 and so had - and to an extent still has - in much of the world a reputation for being quite elitist and played by boys who attended expensive private schools and elite universities, which is probably where the laddishness and drinking culture comes from. It's a bit like college fraternities in the States, I suppose. It also had a rather ugly association with apartheid in South Africa, although things have changed a lot there.
Ironically, despite its association with the social elites, it also has serious money problems. See also cricket.

Rugby clubs do have some weird ritual, my sisters boyfriend joined one, they asked him to get on his knees hold his hands out in front of him, and ask him to open his mouth, then they put a little silver spoon on his tongue, he was watching the man that put the spoon there thinking something was going to happen to him, that was when someone behind him head butted him, which made him swallow the spoon. Afterwards, they all cheered, and they drank heavily for the night, i can't say it's all true, but it's hard to think why he'd say something like that
