It's crazy how bdubs has been constantly improving and pushing the medium for years and years! I still fondly remember things like the red keep, city of maybe... and it's only gotten better and better
Which is not to say there's any pressure to keep doing that, I just think it's amazing c:
In the town I live there are old buildings next to big ugly plastic supermarkets and shopping centres, I don't think it's that unusual a contrast for european countries

To be honest that brutalist factory building would fit perfectly in the cyberpunk district in Hermitcraft.

Suggestion for the factory: interior that is defunct and falling apart, demolition crews (do you use armour stand mod?) going around, rigging it for demolition. Perhaps a demolition crane taking a swing at it on the outside.

I think the ideal of "blending" is a little over valued in a world like this. It's a big village/city. Sure, often there are rules for what can be built and guidelines for styles, but I've never seen a place where everything had this perfect artistic synergy and cohesion. If anything, architects are doing all they can to make their building stand out and pushing the boundaries of style requirements.

Dubs, you might want to look at references of Baltimore, Maryland, where it is common to see historical gothic architectural builds in close proximity to industrial areas. Look at Fells Point, Inner Harbor and Johns Hopkins architecture images. Frequently in Maryland, there are “historical districts” that are identified with change in lampposts signs and foliage and even cobblestone streets that make clear you’re entering into someplace special. I think that the roads/paths can tie the world together cohesively in the eyes of this Maryland girl. ❤

    • @JenInMinecraft
      @JenInMinecraft 3 месяца назад +26

As a fellow Maryland girl, I second this! There's even a few historical townhouses in Fells Point that members of my family once owned 100 years ago that were since renovated. (an old Polish neighborhood of Baltimore)

    • @kylemyers8415

      @dittymargoo 3 месяца назад +4

I'm not from Maryland but you are so right! All the different styles show a passage of time and changes in ideas. Often it's the trees or roads that bring things together.

As a guy living in Belgium I would love to put Antwerp on this list aswell. Its also a really old city where some modern stuff has poped up and even old historic building have been renovated in a modern or brutalist style, look at Het Steen or Het Havenhuis the gothic cathedral is also quite special as its missing a tower.

18:55 i think it's important to distinguish between "I wouldn't do something like this today" and "i only did this back then because i was a lesser artist". Often times when i look back at my older artwork i'm surprised and a little bit inspired by how bold my choices were, even if they weren't executed "correctly". i think that sometimes as I grow older and more experienced as an artist i'm also taking less risks. I think it's good that you framed it in this way, by saying "I wouldn't be BRAVE ENOUGH to texture this messily today".

This was a good watch, can't believe its been so long and how much has changed in your world and mine too. I remember watching with my love back then and laughing when you kept saying "don't do it" to that vllager in every new episode 😅. its a complicated feeling to come across certain things by yourself, things that you used to do with another person. Its a strange feeling of contentment and emptiness and some sort of absent warmth with a mixture of denial where you think of the other possibility where things worked out, and acceptance where you wish nothing but the best for them. Great video man 💗if you asked me the reason i adore this channel so much i would say your ability see potential in the smallest things, you focus and value things that usually go unseen or unnoticed by most. That inspires me. Keep up the good work bdubs 💖

  • @Geodian

Been watching this series since as long as I can remember and I’m so glad to see it back again after some time. This series has always been the epitome of your channel for me and honestly the beauty has always been in the slower moments.
I know RUclips has changed but I miss the days where we would build along with you, block by block, sometimes taking multiple episodes to finish one project, but that didn’t matter, we were there for the ride. You would try new techniques and tell us stories that made us feel like we were catching up with an old friend. And the whole world with all the kingdoms felt so rich because we experienced every moment and built the world together.
Now you build entire projects in a 4 second time lapse, and they are incredible by the way, but I can’t help but feel that so much of your time planning, designing, building, and even collecting resources goes unnoticed and almost feels like a waste. I know HermitCraft tends to promote this kind of content but this is your World and you can do whatever you want!
I truly think slowing down is a great idea for you and the viewers. Yes, we love seeing your ground-breaking builds every week, but more so we love seeing you! And trust me, you are enough. We would all watch a 30 minute video of you building a dirt hut!
The hardest thing isn’t always the best thing, the best thing is to enjoy whatever it is you choose to do and if you truly enjoy it, the viewers will too. Sorry for the book, and the lame motivational quotes but we love ya to death Bdubs and can’t wait for some more Building with BdoubleO!

This series is such a two-fold joy to experience. The builds themselves are incredible, and the narrative journey of creation and reflection you take us on is the right kind of special.
I feel like it's easy to miss how valuable talking about creating is. Having creations is wonderful on its own, but without the framework that storied reflection provides, we may miss out on the joys inherent to the process of making.
The way you manage the balance between creation and the creating process here reminds me of something Adam Savage (from mythbusters) said in response to a question about AI art:
"I have a theory that what makes human heart -- what makes all human endeavours interesting -- is a point of view, and I define making as any time you reach out into the world and use your point of view to make something from nothing."
Thank you for sharing your point of view with us!

The way you experiment with blocks is very inspiring, you really push yourself to make those blocks to submit and not look as blocky as you can. And! Don't knock your dragon egg's perch (arches) I still think it looks fantastic. The 2.5 years just went by so fast O_O and you made really unique techniques and improved more in that short time.
When I drew your Sky Tugboat ((one of my fave builds of yours alongside ur season 8 moon base) I referenced Ian Mcque a lot because I thought it had the same feel about it, full of character and lived-in charm about it.

Bdubs calling his builds trash and nitpicking at them when they are in the stratosphere above what I'd be able to do. I love how you talk through the decisions and the why and your vids are always a warm comfort on a rainy day 🥰

You can really tell the thought that is put in to editing these videos, your editing is my favourite! Nice and calm, and tons of small details, and it shows that you are trying new things, like the in focus/out of focus in the montage was such a nice touch, and really adds to immersion!

Bdubs, you're such an inspiration to me. That last bit about how you're taking it slow, and how it's a marathon - "I'll be here till I'm 70!"
I'm wanting to adopt this mindset. I'm starting a new survival world, because every time I start a new survival world, I chicken out and turn off mobs. But this time I'm not doing that. I'm going to embrace the possibility of dying. Stuff can be re-gathered. Levels can be re-earned. And my building doesn't need to be perfect right now. This is a long project. I can't expect to have it done in a single play session.

Finally! As much as I like hermitcraft nothing beats the singleplayer series to me. Its such a better interaction between viewer and the youtuber. Feels closer and better, and also with more focus on building instead of the roleplay of SMPs. Glad to see the series back!

10:00 I actually really love that angled covered bridge! I think you have a point about the noisy-ness of the roof, but I’ve never seen a bridge in that shape and I think it adds something so unique to your world. I kinda want to build it in my world cause I like it so much

In response to your updating all your mods: Sodium is beginning tests of 0.6 very soon, which will include support for translucency sorting (makes stained glass panes and water look correct when viewed through itself). Just wanted to mention it so you're aware that Sodium itself will have this feature, and won't require additional mods for it.
Excited to see what's to come!

12:16 I actually really like this, it looks like it was a chapel at some point in time, but then someone moved in and renovated the bottom to make it a home ☺️

So happy to see Building with BdoubleO come back. It's just the best series. I love Hermitcraft too, but this series is my favourite.

Build a city underneath your dragon egg bridge. For reference check out Segovia, Spain and the Roman aqueduct.
The staircase part is cool BUT make sure to look at the portions moving though the town. It is amazing how the buildings nest all around it.

The blurred bridge in the background during the tree building was an awesome detail at 26:40. And don't beat yourself down Bdubs, it's good to take it slower sometimes.

Incomparable BDubs (I did buy that shirt), always great to have an episode of building. Once upon a time you’d build on camera while talking about your life or some day to day thing… I think it was therapeutic for both you and us. Feel free to bring that back if it helps you. We definitely eat that up. Thanks for a great episode!

your arches/bridge is one of my favorite builds you've done. the scale of it and how it dominates the background is such an awesome vibe. it reminds of how it feels to play the last guardian.

Bdubs, a suggestion for your next court case (since you always read every comment).
When you do an advertisement, make it similar to your actual ads (like the famous "Raycon these leaves out of my yard").
One suggestion for a catchy pun would be:
Tired of getting bamboozled in the shopping district? Look no further than Bdubs Bamboo Emporium!

If someone ask how is a good minecraft builder... I will never say bdubs.... Its an crazy insult to call B a good builder.
He is an amazing crafter not builder!
    He crafts art,
    He crafts his story,
He crafts life in every build,
These builds go above and beyond

Remember Bdubs we don't see the man only the content creator, no matter your amazing work, all we want is just more and more, so take your time to regulate your creativity and do not feel bad about it for a second. BUT HEY! what happened to the funky intro! xD finally took up that interior though haha, I've been waiting for that. :-)
