    Those are amazing statues bdubs! So what you've done to give the statues more depth is called weathering. Irl it's mostly done by painting into the nooks and gouges and then cleaning up the more prominent surfaces. It's done to give a stauette a more aged appearance but it also gives it more depth. Historically, it wasn't really done manually, apart from making forgeries, since sculptures tend to just mature on their own. Nowadays, it's a common technique used by figure makers.

    Yo Bdubs, what if when you do the interior to the cathedral, you give it a glass floor with an inverse of the interior underneath to make it look like the floor is so shiny that it reflects the ceiling, though that would be a lot of extra work

    The lions are so good, and I think the reason why you might be struggling with liking the first one is because it's silhouette doesn't scream 'lion' like the second one's does, but the colours still make it look like a lion from a distance. If you saw a lion sitting like that at that distance, I feel like it would be a very similar experience, not being completely sure if it is a lion, and I think that's what makes it so great. I really like both lions!

    The lions look fantastic. You can see the musculature in the haunches and in the shoulders. you can see the movement and the tension, like a coiled spring, that is so important to get the look that makes a creature read as a feline.

    • @ThisGM
      @ThisGM Месяц назад +8

      The fluffy inert blob curled up and purring next to me shows no musculature or tension.

    ❤ Loving the piano playing…reminds me of the old animation musicians, playing music to the images on screen. They always made the intended mood obvious; so enjoyable. 😮Small sculptured lions! At that size, one needs to consider the texture of the blocks even more. Like, what block will convey the texture of a lion’s mane? 🤔 The old artists often resorted to curls for texture, so maybe cobbled blocks? Or marbleized? Sandstone is difficult, with that straight edge…wish one could determine where that lands by changing direction of placement.🤷‍♀️ Or that slabs didn’t combine, visually, to make a “whole” (ie: edged) block. The stairs make no sense…the top step has that edge, but not the bottom step? Aren’t they both “top”? 😂 Aaaand off I go. 😂

    What you were describing at the beginning is part of knowing what kind of player you are and what you actually enjoy about the game. Some people like exploration and get bored as soon as they have the best tools and have no risks anymore. Some people enjoy the gathering grind and don't like having automation. Some people enjoy creating things and want to have all their resources prepared before they get started. All of those are perfectly valid ways to play (even if some people will disagree with other groups), but not everybody even realizes what their playstyle actually is. Some people will actively argue that some playstyles should be shut down, because they don't enjoy playing that way. That's a terrible way to be, because you're just trying to destroy what other people like about the game, but I've seen people be very vocal against farms/duplication/trading/bartering/etc for making the game "too easy" instead of just not using it themselves if they don't like it. I really like hearing people like you, saying that you aren't going to use it but you understand why others might.

    I like a balance of farms and playing the game. As someone who enjoys learning and attempting redstone, making farms definitely feels like part of playing.
    But I like approaches like Etho's: lots of small, passive farms that aren't the most efficient thing in the world and you may need to get more, but they can cover small needs and make things a little easier

    architectually and stylistically, I'm getting Yorgo's Lanthimos' "Poor Things" from the cathedral and lions. Almost even like the Quattro Fontane

    3:44 nah thats the end of the earlygame, now you're free to engage in emergent gameplay, make some megabuilds, fully colonize the spawn chunks, nether roof piston bolt a rail system to the inner ring of end portals, stuff like that

    At 21:00, for this farm, I think you could use hoppers covered with carpet instead of the chest, and have the hoppers deliver into the chests what you want. You could have 2 chests, once filled with a single ingot per slot, one with nuggets. You could also have a furnace to smelt the swords.
    Awesome video Bdubs!
