- A very very windy session spent at Westenhanger on the South Eastern Mainline where we see services purely from South Eastern. Sadly due to unannounced and immediate strike action taken by the French staff at EuroTunnel it meant that no Eurostar services were operating during my stay.
Westenhanger was opened in 1844.
The station became a junction station in 1864 when the South Eastern Railway opened its line from Sandgate, however right from the word go there was trouble as it was thought to have been inconveniently placed and for a long time subject to talk about getting demolished and having a new station built elsewhere.
British Rail wanted to close the station in 1969 was eventually decided against.
I will come back here one day and hopefully Eurostar will be running without the French screwing everything up which they seem to be doing a lot lately.
My next film will be my final film of the year with my annual visit to Clapham Junction.

Great film once again it was a pity no Eurostar were running but atleast you saw a range of southern services.
Thanks very much, I will come back here one day
Hi Tornado922. Great film at Westenhanger. Extra information for you: at 4:03, it was indeed 395007 working the Southeastern Highspeed service to Dover Priory. Kind regards, Chris.
Good video. Have a good Christmas.
Thanks very much, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas
Merry Christmas jarred
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
@@Tornado922 I hope you had a good Christmas too
Double videos today! Merry Christmas.
That is correct although with nothing but Southeastern mind you!
I hope you had a brilliant Christmas
I'd have suggested Westenhanger again next year just to catch some Eurostar there and then Ashford International after that.
I will try it again one day
Good video👍🏻! Can we see trains at Godalming on the Portsmouth direct line
Thanks very much, I will see what I can do
I’m sure I heard the conductor on the First train featured say “Eurostar aren’t running”
Edit: Yes I did 😂
you can blame the French for that one haha
Always great videos no matter how many trains we see. Like to say thank you for all your hard work and to wish you and yours a very happy Christmas 🎄
Thanks ever so much, I was gutted that the strike action had taken place as it could have been such a great film. I will come back here at some stage where I'll hopefully catch just a little bit of everything. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas

Shame that you couldn't catch any Eurostar units, I was on a train from Breda to Brussels Midi when I found out that the strike had cancelled my connection. Had to spend a fortune on a last minute flight to get me home!
Eurostar should have fitted the bill for you!
@@Tornado922 They would offer €170 for overnight accommodation, but that wouldn't be possible for me as I was in work the next morning. Plus, the uncertain nature of the strikes meant that I might've been in the same situation the following day. Waiting on a response from my travel insurance now 😅
@@planeguy2749 Well hopefully you won't be at a total loss with your trip! The crazy thing is the strike was caused because the French didn't like their Xmas Bonus.....
@@Tornado922 Fingers crossed! It was all a bit mad, what's most surprising to me is that strikes are allowed to happen without any notice over there!
Disappointing film at Western hanger I haven't watched the one from Clapham Junction yet but I've seen the thumbnail of that film
I was really looking forward to coming here but sadly the strike action really did screw things up for me, and everyone else for that matter
I blame these euro tunnel rail strikes on the Conservative government under Rishi Sunak, no wonder he is losing by-elections in safe conservative seats across the country. All that he needs to do is to give up, go in his car to Buckingham Palace to tell King Charles III and call a General Election!
Unfortunately this strike action wasn't anything to do with our Government, it was the French throwing their toys out of the pram over their Christmas bonus
