I grew up on the lower West Side. I could look out my bedroom window and see the light at the top of the tower when I went to bed. Back then it wasn’t as lit up as it is today though.

That's sad. Didn't know they went through so much heartache at the end. They left us a beauty and i thank them for it. Thank you for the story - must've been one heck of an experience to physically walk around up there

My great grandfather was a carpenter and did some of the fine woodworking inside the tower. Many Clevelanders are not happy about the Key Bank next door stealing its skyline. Progress happens.

lol yea old people get weird about all kinds of crap- stealing the skyline is just one of them. PS i dont ever know any clevelanders that even care about it. i lived here and work downtown for 40 years

Cleveland's oldest "skyscraper" is actually the Rockefeller Building, at West 6th and Superior, built in 1890. Not as tall as the Terminal Tower, but nonetheless considered the first in the definition of the word. They were real estate developers first- their first project was Cook Ave. in Lakewood, then Shaker Hts. In order to get servants from near Euclid Ave. homes of the wealthy new residents of Shaker Hts., they bought the Nickel Plate Railroad in order to build the "Shaker Rapid", and then they proceeded into the railroad business.

My relative did plaster work in the terminal tower. You find a pair of overalls that are plastered behind a wall.

I wonder if any ironworkers died putting it up?? In NYC nobody died building the Chrysler building, but about eight fell at the Empire State Bldg. and many more Died constructing the WTC (not to be confused with the deconstruction.)

Some workers did die building the Terminal Tower. My mother told me this years ago.

Novak, what's your beef with Leon Bibb? He's a good man who has brought a personal touch to Cleveland's local TV stations.
