Thank you! That helped a lot. Just for future watchers, remember to put the steering gear right side up. Pay attention to this, otherwise you get to disassemble everything to switch it.

Thanks for the tutorial! Like you said, when something like this happens, the first thing I do is search RUclips for a repair tutorial... If this happens, I know there's a repair video waiting for me!!!

Thank you! I followed your video and got it replaced in about half an hour! The guy at the repair shop was going to charge $700... Mine shattered when my wheel fell in a hole, my best guess for why this part breaks and the teeth break off is because this is the sacrificial part, in other words this part breaks to save all the other parts in the steering system. One thing I might mention is that there were "distorted thread locknuts" on the drag links. Those are not really intended to be reused, had I known I would have gotten new nuts too, but I'll just keep an eye on them they might be fine. The tools you need are a 9/16" socket, 9/16" closed end wrench and a 1/2" open ended wrench.

    Thank you 👍
I just bought my XT1 54. Only 20 hours on it but this is in my future. I've done this a few years a go on my '05 Poulan Pro 54, drop the deck, get under it all because of a paper thin plastic bushing 😫. This is sooooo much easier. BTW, great job on placing the camera 📸 !
    Thanks again 😃.

Great video! Especially for filming it yourself. That’s a tough one to get the camera where you need to. Well done!

Is that hole in the steering gear an indicator for center?

Chuck's philosophy is "why pay somebody to do something you can do yourself?"

There is a spray coating by wd-40 called dry lube that will not attract dust, or dirt, it will extend the life of moving metal parts.

Very helpful, is this a common problem? Mine broke after only 4 times mowing my yard.

How do you adjust the frontend alignment/tow in?

Why do you think the gear teeth broke? No grease or lube on gear teeth so as to not attract dirt etc.? Is there a backlash adjustment for these two gears? My brand new XT1 Enduro 46" seems to have excessive play such that there is a lot of dead movement when turning from R to L or L to R.

I think it’s from hard driving and hitting tree stumps around the back of the property.. but it broke the teeth

You don't put any grease on the gear

Looks like your drag links are bent as well.
