    I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

    For new viewers, check the Sector gear as well . If it is noticeably worn, change it. NOT an easy job. The Pinion Gear (11 teeth) can also be turned upside down for a new wear surface if it is not wear in the Centre. Add a washer on top in that case.

    Thanks for sharing, WOW! 86,000 views. This tells me that Cub Cadet has a big problem with steering gear flange. Mine just broke today and I only have 110 hours of mowing. My flange looks to be round and not a hex flange. I will know more tomorrow when I tear it apart. Thanks for a great video, I hope I can get my 70 year old fat butt up and off the ground to get this fixed. LOL. I do have a question for you though. What keeps the Hex Flange in place? It looks like the shaft just slid through it and it's held in by gravity????

    • @FireItUpGarage
      @FireItUpGarage  11 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. The Hex just sits in place and the shaft comes through it. I don't remember though if the shaft has a notch or milled portion on it that keeps the flange in place once installed. We sold this mower long ago so I can't check on that for you. Sorry! It will be clear as soon as you take a look at the steering shaft. Thanks for watching! Good luck with the project.

    Trying to do the exact same job on mine right now, but the bolt is incredibly tight and I cannot get it off. How did you stop the steering shaft from turning, that would have been super handy to see in the video? Great work! :-)

    • @FireItUpGarage
      @FireItUpGarage  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching. And thank you for asking the question. The gear should be holding the shaft from turning unless it is no longer engaging with the opposing teeth. Ours was engaged and was not excessively tight. In that case you can try to wedge it into engagement or if that does not work you may be able to hold the shaft at a higher point above. This may be directly above or anywhere along the shaft (possibly in the engine compartment). A really good set of vice grips will hold tight on a round shaft, just make sure it is in an area on the shaft that could be minimally marred without any negative effects (somewhere along the shaft that does not contact any other surfaces)

      Check the steering gear (if no already replaced) That can make it do some strange things. Also check for slop in the other connection points along steering. With the tractor lifted in the front it is easier to see what is going on with the steering.With the deck off it is even easier. Check for worn parts and replace. Congrats on a great buy. • @FireItUpGarage
      @FireItUpGarage  3 года назад +1

      It is a pretty simple project. I believe we did this one without raising the mower. But it is possible to use either a car jack and jack stands or drive the front wheels up on a curb to get more lift.

      If there is any slop vertically in the shaft you may be able to pull up on it to loosen the gear. If you still aren't having luck you can try a gear puller, ball joint separator, or heat (remove the fuel tank first if you choose to heat it)
